The purpose of this study is to ascertain librarian's perceptions on their users' library access and its patterns. Interviews with seven library staff reveal physical accessibility issues including spatial relationships between libraries and other facilities such as shopping malls and schools, travel distance, transportation mode, and temporal perspectives of library access. The results from the interviews corroborate the findings from secondary analysis using household travel data. However, interviewees do not have a clear picture of how much their users travel and spend to access their libraries. This is true, even though these factors are critical to analyze physical accessibility. Based on the findings, this study makes recommendations to improve the accessibility of public libraries. Suggestions include the concept of sponsorships with other facilities, the placing of material drop-boxes on the main route, and providing library programs during lunch time.

In this study, regional variation in vertebral bone density due to osteoporosis were investigated using a method that employs images from QCT. QCT images(1mm thick slices) of the first lumbar vertebra from a normal person (23/M, BMD=139.8mg/ml) and from an osteoporotic patient (54/F, BMD=82.0mg/ml) were obtained. Uniform settings (140kVp, 204mA) were used and images of 300 Hounsfield Unit or greater were selectied to filler out soft tissue interference. To assess the regional variation of the area fraction the vertebral body was divided into 3 layers and each layer contained 9 regions. Area faction was calculated based on image analysis data. Our results showed that the area fraction at the middle of the vertebra was quite lower than the endplate and peripheral regions, but the area fraction values from the osteoporotic patient were uniform throughout the entire height of the vertebral body, which indicates the significant drop of BMD had occurred near both end-plates due to the osteoporosis, especially at the peripheral regions. Our results suggest the susceptability of the vertebrae to compression fracture types in osteoporotic spine.
One of the way to derive design parameters of the fuel feeding system in satellite propulsion system is to analyze unsteady flow of liquid propellant (hydrazine). During steady thruster firing the flow rate is constant: if a thruster valve is abruptly shut down among a set of thrusters, pressure spikes much higher than the initial tank pressure occur. This renders the fuel flow unsteady, and the fluid pressure and flow rate to oscillate. If the pressure spikes are high enough, there are possibilities that propellant explosively decomposes, thruster valves we damaged, and adiabatic detonation of the hydrazine propellant is potentially incurred. Reflected shockwaves could also affect the calibration and operation of the pressure transducers. These necessitate the analysis of unsteady flow in the propulsion system design, and pressure behavior inside the propellant line obtained through some governing parameter variation is presented in this work.

In the present study, a recuperator to improve the thermal efficiency of a micro gas turbine is considered. The counter flow plate-fin heat exchanger with offset strip fins is chosen as the type of the recuperator. From the optimization study as varying design parameters of the recuperator determined from the ideal cycle analysis, the internal structure of the recuperator is determined. The recuperator is made from stainless steel 304. In order to evaluate performance of the recuperator, experimental investigation is performed. The effects of inlet temperature of hot-side of the recuperator on the thermal performance of the recuperator are investigated. As a result, effectiveness of the recuperator obtained from the experiments is well consistent with that obtained from the correlations.
Photodegradation characteristics of polyolefin composites were studied. Thermogravimetric analysis results suggest that the polyolefin blends used in this study have different amounts of talc. The mechanical behaviors of polyolefin blends, which experienced UV-irradiation in accordance with SAE J1960, are investigated using tensile and Izod impact tests. These results show that as the UV-exposure time increases, a significant drop in the elongation at break and impact strength at a low temperature are observed. This may be explained by the decreases in elastic energy derived from the scission of polymer molecular chains and the low density of entanglement after UV- photodegradation. Scanning electron microscopy observations indicate that no crack and surface damage are observed, while the additional talc particles are exposed, on the UV-exposed surfaces. The exposure of talc particles may be responsible for the discoloration of UV-exposed polyolefin blend surface. Observation using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirms the presence of photodegradation on the surface of UV-exposed polyolefin blend.
This paper presents a numerical analysis of flow inside a water nozzle for fire fighting and observes the effect of the variation in primary components on internal flow. In order to observe the performance of water nozzles, they have been systematically designed and modelled, applying boundary conditions obtained from field experiments (inlet pressure at pump : 4 bar, and pressure outlet : atmospheric pressure). In addition, the governing equations were calculated to obtain velocity, pressure inside the nozzle. Two main parameters (the presence and length of sub-pipes) were considered with the aim to observe the detail internal flow characteristics. It is found that the base model is not significant on flow characteristics, but a negative effect (i. e. the reverse flow) at the entrance region of sub-pipe. On the other hand, the reverse flow was vanished when making the length of sub-pipe double.
We proposed a simple process of fabricating electroconductive textiles by coating conductive polymer PEDOT:PSS (Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate)) on biocompatible PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) nanofiber web for application to smart healthcare. Electroconductive textiles were obtained by a drop-coating process using different amounts of PEDOT:PSS solutions., DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) was then used as an additive in the post-treatment process to improve conductivity. The surface morphology of the specimens was observed by FE-SEM. The chemical structures of the specimens were characterized using FTIR. The electrical properties (linear and sheet resistance) of the specimens were measured. The effect of the bending angles on the electrical properties was also investigated to confirm their applicability as wearable smart textiles. FE-SEM and FTIR analysis confirmed that the deposition of PEDOT:PSS on the PLA nanofiber web surface was successful. The conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS/PLA nanofiber web was enhanced up to 1.5 ml with an increasing amount of PEDOT:PSS solutions, but there was no significant difference at 2.0 ml. The optimum condition of PEDOT:PSS deposition was established to 1.5 ml. Even when the specimen coated with 1.5 ml was bent every 30°, the change in the electrical resistance values was still low within 3.7 Ω. It confirmed that stable electrical performance was maintained and proved the applicability as a flexible textile sensor.
Background: Although considerable efforts have been made to improve the graft patency in coronary artery bypass surgery, the role of biomechanical factors remains underrecognized. The aim of this study is to investigate the influences of geometric configurations of the bypass graft on hemodynamic characteristics in relation to anastomosis. Materials and Methods: The Numerical analysis focuses on understanding the flow patterns for different values of inlet and distal diameters and graft angles. The Blood flow field is treated as a two-dimensional incompressible laminar flow. A finite volume method is adopted for discretization of the governing equations. The Carreau model is employed as a constitutive equation for blood. In an attempt to obtain the optimal aorto-coronary bypass conditions, the blood flow characteristics are analyzed using in vitro models of the end-to-side anastomotic angles of $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$. To find the optimal graft configurations, the mass flow rates at the outlets of the four models are compared quantitatively. Results: This study finds that Model 3, whose bypass diameter is the same as the inlet diameter of the stenosed coronary artery, delivers the largest amount of blood and the least pressure drop along the arteries. Conclusion: Biomechanical factors are speculated to contribute to the graft patency in coronary artery bypass grafting.
After porous filters were manufactured using cordierite powder whose mean paricle size was 200${\mu}m$, they were loaded with catalysts such as $V_2O_5$, CuO and $LaCoO_3$ by vacuum impregnation method. And the NOx/SOx simultaneous removal efficiency was measured by passing NO and $SO_2$ through catalyst-loaded ceramic filters. The cordierite porous filters had the apparent porosity of 61.6%, the compressive strength of 12.3 MPa and the pressure drop of 147 pa at the face velocity of 5 cm/sec. According to the analysis of NO/$SO_2$ simultaneous removal efficiency, perovskite $LaCoO_3$ catalyst was the most efficient for the simultaneous NO and $SO_2$ removal. The $LaCoO_3$ catalyst-loaded filter could remove more than 90% for NO and more than 80% for $SO_2$.

The objective of this to improve the reliability of the safety evaluation code for Wolsong Tritium Removal Facility(WTRF) which is on the development for environmental assessment. To achieve this, tritium concentrations calculated in the Wolsong Units of this study are compared with that of the existing reference. As the result, the tritium concentration in each Wolsong nuclear power plant unit just before operating WTRF is 60.9Ci/kg, 36.3Ci/kg, 30.0Ci/kg, 26.5Ci/kg under the assumption that the WTRF begins operation in 2005, respectively. This result is almost same with that of the existing reference. But the reducing rate of tritium concentration in the moderator is faster than that of the reference result Finally it is expected to drop below 10Ci/kg after WTRF operation. And this result is also similar with that of the existing reference.
