In this study, we analyze the rattle noise of a power takeoff (PTO) driveline and develop a PTO driveline resonance model. We measured the rattle noise of the PTO driveline on the output shaft and, by analyzing the rattle noise in the time domain, we determine that the engine expansion stroke period matches the sound pressure of rattle noise. This finding helped us demonstrate that the rattle noise is caused by the collision between the PTO driving gear and the gear driven by the engine expansion stroke; the torsional vibration caused by this collision is affected by the angular velocity fluctuation of the PTO drive shaft. By measuring the angular velocity of the PTO drive shaft, we confirm that the angular velocity fluctuation of the engine flywheel tends to excessively amplify the PTO drive shaft angular velocity fluctuation. We conclude that the resonance, which occurs when the operating frequency of the engine is close to the natural frequency of the tractor power transmission system, causes the excessive angular velocity fluctuation of the PTO drive shaft. We performed a modal analysis of the PTO driveline resonance and, using the characteristic equation, we show that the resonance occurs when the engine rotation speed is close to 850 rpm, which matches the natural frequency of the PTO driveline.

Range extenders, which are power generation systems driven by small engines, extend the driving distance and time of electric vehicles (EVs) through continuous charging of batteries. The currently used range extenders with gasoline engines pose limitations with regard to the realization of high-power compact systems, owing to their complex structure and low energy density. In contrast, micro gas turbine (MGT) range extenders (MGT power packs) possess high power and low weight, and can therefore be significantly reduced in size despite increase in speed. In this study, an MGT power pack for the range extenders of EVs was developed using a turbo-prop micro turbine, an alternator for passenger vehicles and electric batteries. The operating characteristics of the MGT power pack were measured through a series of experiments conducted under electrical no-load and load conditions. Their power generation performance and efficiency were measured under various electrical loads and power transmission gear ratios. From the results, electrical load was found to have no influence on power generation performance. The maximum electrical power output was 0.8 kW at a core turbine speed of 150 krpm, and the application of 3:1 reduction gear to the turbine output shaft increased the power to 1.5 kW by 88%. This implies that the test results demonstrated stable power generation performance of the MGT power pack regardless of vehicle load changes, thus revealing its feasibility for use with the range extenders of EVs.
Korean fishery wage system has been evolved with the different titles. However, Since the law of fishing crew was enacted in 1984, the fishery wage system has been established as a rate system, which is a legal term. The present rate system in practice shows various contents and modalities, depending on fisheries and regions, but the fisheries of large trawl cooperative employ a rate system of fixed plus rate wage. However, such change did not transform basically the properties of pure rate scheme. As well known, fishing vessel owners face an awful lot of difficulty in managing and controlling effectively the production process because fishing activities are carried out in the seas remote from the land. Thus, it tend to be inevitable for vessel owners to employ a rate system to induce fishermen's positive motivation for promoting productivity and saving operating costs. However, the rate system has worked out as a driving force, which induce an increase in production more strongly under the expansion of vessel numbers and power and the keener competition of fishing activities. Even though the control mechanism of fishing instruments are well established, fishermen become naturally to have an incentive to increase their fishing effort for maximizing production since they are able to raise their shares by maximizing the quantity harvested. Thus, as far as the rate system exists, fisheries administration may have much difficulty in realizing its fishery management goals only through vessel reduction and fishing gear regulations. Also, under the rate system fishery management authority may be in face of a serious dilemma between the spontaneous rate system and vessel reduction policy. If the realistic aspect of the rate system is recognized and resource restoration and profit promotion are main policy goals, it is necessary to develop effective ways to control vessel owners' and fishermen's production-maximizing motives at an appropriate level. From this point of view, it seems reasonable to introduce TAC system by species or by fisheries into the existing fishery system. The research results suggest that if the fisheries administration could understand clearly the spontaneous fisheries wage system, it would know the norm of TAC and the basic reasons for illegal fishing activities and thus it would be able to develop and implement more realistic resource management policies.

Military Vehicles of the Korean army had been developed before 2004 and used manual transmissions. Manual transmissions contain a clutch system regulating the force from engine to transmission. In this study, a 2.5-ton military vehicle's clutch system was investigated. The existing clutch system had the characteristics that need to adjust the clearance between the clutch cover and release bearing. Improper clearance led to early wear of the clutch disk and failure of the clutch cover. To solve these problems, an improved clutch system was suggested and tested. The improved clutch system contains auto adjustment of the clearance and an enhanced clutch disk. To verify the improved clutch systems, 2 stage tests were conducted: an accelerated life test of the clutch system, and a driving test by trainee of driving more than 3,000km. As a result, the problems caused by the improper clearance adjustment were solved and this design was verified.

Purpose: A simulator for the design and performance evaluation of a tractor with a hydro-mechanical transmission (HMT) was developed. Methods: The HMT consists of a hydro-static unit (HSU), a swash plate control system, and a planetary gear. It was modeled considering the input/output relationship of the torque and speed, and efficiency of HSU. Furthermore, a dynamic model of a tractor was developed considering the traction force, running resistance, and PTO (power take off) output power, and a tractor performance simulator was developed in the co-simulation environment of AMESim and MATLAB/Simulink. Results: The behaviors of the design parameters of the HMT tractor in the working and driving modes were investigated as follows; For the stepwise change of the drawbar load in the working mode, the tractor and engine speeds were maintained at the desired values by the engine torque and HSU stroke control. In the driving mode, the tractor followed the desired speed through the control of the engine torque and HSU stroke. In this case, the engine operated near the OOL (optimal operating line) for the minimum fuel consumption within the shift range of HMT. Conclusions: A simulator for the HMT tractor was developed. The simulations were conducted under two operation conditions. It was found that the tractor speed and the engine speed are maintained at the desired values through the control of the engine torque and the HSU stroke.

In manufacturing and semiconductor industries, transfer robots increase productivity through accurate and continuous work. Due to the nature of the semiconductor process, there are environments where humans cannot intervene to maintain internal temperature and humidity in a clean room. So, transport robots take responsibility over humans. In such an environment where the manpower of the process is cutting down, the lack of maintenance and management technology of the machine may adversely affect the production, and that's why it is necessary to develop a technology for the machine failure diagnosis system. Therefore, this paper tries to identify various causes of failure of transport robots that are widely used in semiconductor automation, and the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) method is considered for determining and predicting the process of failures. The robot mainly fails in the driving unit due to long-term repetitive motion, and the core components of the driving unit are motors and gear reducer. A simulation drive unit was manufactured and tested around this component and then applied to 6-axis vertical multi-joint robots used in actual industrial sites. Vibration data was collected for each cause of failure of the robot, and then the collected data was processed through signal processing and frequency analysis. The processed data can determine the fault of the robot by utilizing machine learning algorithms such as SVM (Support Vector Machine) and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbor). As a result, the PHM environment was built based on machine learning algorithms using SVM and KNN, confirming that failure prediction was partially possible.
Purpose: It is not easy to drive a rice-transplanter avoiding underlapped or overlapped transplanting in paddy fields. An automated guidance system for the riding-type rice-transplanter would be necessary to operate the rice-transplanter autonomously or to assist the beginning drivers as a driving aid. Methods: A prototype of guidance system was composed of embedded computers, RTK-GPS, and a power-steering mechanism. Two Kalman filters were adopted to overcome sparse positioning data (1 Hz) from the RTK-GPS. A global Kalman filter estimated the posture of rice-transplanter every one second, and a local Kalman filter calculated the posture from every new estimation of the global Kalman filter with an interval of 200 ms. A PID controller was applied to the row-following mode control. A control method of U-turning mode was developed as well. A stepping motor with a reduction gear set was used to rotate the shaft of steering wheel. Results: Test trials for U-turning and row-following modes were done in a paddy field after some parameters have been tuned at the ground speed range of 0.3 ~ 1.2 m/s. The minimum RMS error of offset was 3.13 cm at the ground speed of 0.3 m/s while the maximum RMS error was 13.01 cm at 1.2 m/s. The offset RMS error tended to increase as the ground speed increased. The target point distance, LT also affected the system performance and PID controller parameters should be adjusted on different ground speeds. Conclusions: A target angle-based PID controller plus stationary steering angle controller made it possible for the rice-transplanter to steer autonomously by following a reference line accurately and even on U-turning mode. However, as condition in paddy fields is very complicated, the system should control the ground speed that prevents it from deviating too much due to ditch and slope.

Recently, mixers are being widely used in the water purification plant in order to increase the filtration efficiency. The mixer normally consists of impeller, shaft, hub, reduction gear, and the driving motor. It is one of the key design issues to confirm that the vibration caused by the rotation of the shaft should not coincide with the natural vibration frequency of the shaft itself. The vibration characteristics of the hydrofoil type mixer, which is the most widely used in real plants are evaluated through the finite element modeling and verified by experiment using the mock-up facility. The fundamental natural frequency of the mixer's shaft is found to be around 1.8 Hz which showed in good agreement with the experiment. The higher natural frequencies to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th modes are also verified by the experiment. Thus the developed model is to be utilized for the structural design of the real mixer system.

Since robot industry growing, the machine that could move with multi-DOF has been studied in many industrial fields. Spherical motor is one of the multi-DOF machine that doesn't need gear for multi-DOF motion. Unlike conventional motor, spherical motor can not only rotate on the shaft axis (rotating motion), but tilt the shaft with 2-DOF motion (positioning motion). In the typical type of spherical motor, one coil took part in positioning motion and rotating motion at the same time. As the result, the control algorithm was complex. To solve this problem, this study proposed a novel type of coil on the stator. The coils were separated for positioning motion and rotating motion. Thus the linkage flux of rotating coil didn't be affected the positioning angle. In this paper, comparing the back-EMF of typical and novel type was conducted and the driving experiment was carried out as the positioning angle. From the experiment result, the performance of proposed spherical motor could be verified.
Electronic control technologies that have long been developed for passenger cars spread to construction equipment and agricultural vehicles because of its outstanding performance achieved by embedded software. Especially, system program of transmission control unit (TCU) plays a crucial role for the superb shift quality, driving performance and fuel efficiency, etc. Since the control algorithm is embedded in software that is rarely analyzed, development of such a TCU cannot be conducted by conventional reverse engineering. Transmission simulator is a kind of electronic device that simulates the electric signals including driver operation command and output of various sensors installed in transmission. Standalone TCU can be run in normal operation mode with the signals provided by transmission simulator. In this research, transmission simulator for the tracked vehicle TCU is developed for the analysis of shift control algorithm from the experiments with standalone TCU. It was confirmed that shift experimental data for the simulator setup conditions can be used for the analysis of control algorithms on proportional solenoid valves and shift map.
