A computer aided analysis and design system is developed for analyzing the driveline torsional vibration of a vehicle. Torsional vibration characteristics of driveline component are investigated and 10 types of module are developed. They can be connected together to represent any driveline configuration. During assembly process simulation program is generated. It is implemented using C++language. A driveline tor- sional vibration system at full load driving condition and idle rattle system are modeled and simulated with this system. Their responses for engine torque excitation are evaluated on time and frequency domain, and the results are compared with test results favorably. This system makes it simpler and easier for design and analysis engineer to model and analyse the driveline system.
A variable friction damper for vehicle driveline has been proposed. This new torsional damper system uses a solenoid as an actuator to vary friction force of the damper. To verify the idea of using a solenoid in a variable damper system, the test fixture and the dampers are made and tested. Also, to find out the range of damper friction forces that influence the vehicle driveline vibration, a mathematical model of the driveline had been developed and simulated. Test and simulation results show that, within electric current used in the vehicle electric system, the solenoid can develop enough friction force that will surpass resonance in the driveline of 1.5 L Gasoline engine vehicle during acceleration.
In commercial vehicles such as frame-based mid-size trucks, it is easy to reduce vibration caused by driveline with the cab mount system. There are no critical driveline vibration problems associated with these vehicles up to now. However, in the case of a similar grade of monocoque type mini-bus, there are no effective vibration isolation components such as a cab mount. Vibration caused by driveline is quite a complex problem to understand in terms of which part governs the phenomenon and how the problem can be solved. Thus, we have to manage the design factor about the driveline and mount system strictly at the early stage of vehicle development. Low frequency vibration caused by the driveline system is investigated in this study. We created the CAE driveline model and analyze low frequency vibration. Then contribution analysis about each design factor of driveline and mount system is performed. Finally, we can obtain the optimized design factor for a driveline system of a mini-bus, which is verified by the vehicle test results.
In the previous study, a module-type vibration analysis system using modular approach is developed for the purpose of analyzing the torsional vibration of vehicle driveline. In the present paper, the system is utilized to investigate the torsional vibration of the driveline of a middle duty truck. The driveline with driving condition is modeled and the torsional vibration response is simulated. The resonance 45Hz is found at engine speed 900rpm and the resultant vibration is very high. It shows favorable agreements with reference data. The effects of parameter change on torsional vibration are also investigated, so it is clarified that clutch characteristics, axle shaft stiffness are very influential on reduction of vibratio. So the countermeasure is proposed for the clutch characteristics. The reduction of torsonal vibration by 8rad/sec is obtained.
The authors have investigated the NVH problems of drive system in full vehicle test. However it is difficult to define the NVH problems of driveline system. Since it is hard to measure the rotating part and it is vague that only the drive system induces the NVH problem. Vibration in a driveline is presented in this paper. In the experiment, the rear sub-frame and propeller shafts and axle were composed and mounted with rubber each other. For applying the vibration input instead of the torsional vibration effect of an engine, the shaker was taken. In particular, torsional vibration due to fluctuating forced vibration excitation across the joint between driveline and rear sub-frame was carefully examined. Accordingly, the joint response was checked from experiments and the FE-simulation using FRF (frequency response function) analysis was performed. All test results were signal processed and validated against numerical simulations. In present study, the new test bench for measuring the vibration signal and simulating the vehicle chassis system was proposed. The modal value and the mode shape of components were analyzed using the CAE model to identify the important components affecting driveline noise and vibration. It could be reached that the simplified test bench could be well established and be used for design guide and development of the vehicle chassis components.
This paper discusses the stick-slip phenomenon of the driveline system of a vehicle in consideration of friction. Friction is operated on the between of flywheel and clutch disk. The expressions for obtaining the results have been derived from the equation of motion of a three degree of freedom frictional torsion vibration system which is made up driving part(engine, flywheel), driven part(clutch, transmission) and dynamic load part(vehicle body) by applying forth-order Rungekutta method. It was found that the great affect parameters of the stick-slip or stick motion were surface pressure force between flywheel and clutch disk, time decay parameter of surface pressure force and 1st torsional spring constant of clutch disk when driveline system had been affected by friction force. The results of this study can be used as basic design data of the clutch system for the ride quality improvement of a car.
This paper presents a study on the system identification of the in-situ output shaft torque measurement system using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in a vehicle drivline. The frequency response (transfer) function (FRF) analysis is conducted to interpret the dynamic interaction between the output shaft torque and road side excitation due to the road roughness. In order to identify the frequency response function of vehicle driveline system, two power spectral density (PSD) functions of two random signals: the road roughness profile synthesized from the road roughness index equation and the stationary noise torque extracted from the original torque signal, are first estimated. System identification results show that the output torque signal can be affected by the dynamic characteristics of vehicle driveline systems, as well as the road roughness.
This gaper discusses a multidisciplinary design optimization of the engine mounting system to improve the ride quality of a vehicle and to remove the possibility of the resonance between the powertrain system and vehicle systems. The driveline model attempts to support engine mount development by providing sufficient detail for design modification assessment in a modeling environment. Design variables used in this study are the locations, the angles and the stiffness of an engine mount system. The goal of the optimization is both decoupling the roll mode ova powertrain and minimizing the vibration transmitted to the vehicle including the powertrain, simultaneously. By applying forced vibration analysis for vehicle systems and mode decouple analysis for the engine mount system, it is shown that improved optimization result is obtained.
This paper presents a study on the driveline output torque estimation using a discrete Kalman filter. The in-situ output shaft torque is first measured by a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer. The linear state-space system equations are first derived and the discrete Kalman filter is designed based on the Kalman filter theory to recover the driveline output torque contaminated by random noises. In addition to using torque measurement, the estimation of the output torque using two angular velocities: the output and wheel, is also conducted. The experimental results show that the discrete Kalman filter can be effective for not only removing the random noise in output torque but also estimating the output torque without torque measurement.
This paper is to study vibration effects of the dynamic vibration absorber. Multi-body dynamic analysis is carried out for the vehicle driveline model using ADAMS with flexible propeller shaft attached with the vibration damper. Primary bending mode frequency of the propeller shaft is obtained from the simulation and coincides with the experimental result. Various design parameters are studied in dynamic simulation operated by the engine torque input. This paper identifies the responses of dynamic vibration absorbers in the driveline with propeller shaft, which will be used to find out optimal design parameters.
