Methods: This is descriptive research design. Data were collected from September 27th to October 10th, 2010 after obtaining the informed consent from the participants and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, scheffe' test and pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The drinking-related knowledge scores were significant differences by grade and club activities. The drinking-related attitude scores were significant differences by source of income. Drinking behaviors were significant differences by school record and club activities. Regarding the relationships between variables, there was a positive relationship between drinking behaviors and drinking-related knowledge or attitude. Conclusion: The drinking-related knowledge score of freshmen or the students involved in club activities was the lowest, and the higher the drinking-related knowledge and attitude were, the higher the drinking behaviors were. Therefore, appropriate drinking prevention education need to be implemented to freshmen or in middle and high school repeatedly.

Methods: Pre-post test design. The subject was used for a group of high school girls. The data were collected on May and September, 2006 and June, 2007 and analyzed using paired t-test. Results: The drinking-related knowledge score after one year was significantly higher than that of pretest (t=-14.02, p=.001) and the drinking-related attitude score was lower (t=2.85, p=.006). The drinking refusal self-efficacy and the drinking behavior measured as number of drinking events, amount of alcohol and number of heavy drinking events were not significantly different between pretest and post test after one year. Conclusion: Drinking prevention program should be given to increase the drinking refusal self-efficacy and decrease or prevent the drinking behavior of high school girls every semester at least.

The data were collected from May to September, 2005 and analyzed using Chi-square test, t-test and ANCOVA. Results: 1. The 1st hypothesis, "The drinking-related knowledge score of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=256.30, p= .001). 2. The 2nd hypothesis, "The drinking-related attitude score of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=43.35, p= .001). The 3rd hypothesis, "The drinking refusal self-efficacy of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=43.86, p= .001). 4. The 4th hypothesis, "The number of drinking of experimental group will be significantly lower than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=6.12, p= .015). 5. The 5th hypothesis, "The drinking amount of experimental group will be significantly lower than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=8.52, p= .004). 5. Conclusion: This drinking prevention program was effective in increasing the drinking-related knowledge and attitude, and the drinking refusal self-efficacy, and in reducing the drinking behavior of high school girls.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct a structural equation model (SEM) that would describe the binge drinking among Korean undergraduate students. Methods: Model construction was based on the theory of planned behavior and prototype/willingness model, using the variables; intention, attitude, descriptive norm, and prototype perception of binge drinking, alcohol use disorders identification test (AUDIT), and binge drinking behavior. The analysis of data was done with both SPSS 20.0 for descriptive statistics and AMOS 20.0 for SEM. Results: The binge drinking intention was found to have a significantly direct effect in influencing binge drinking behavior. In addition, attitude, descriptive norm, and prototype perception of binge drinking were found to have a significantly direct effect in influencing binge drinking intention. The final modified model yielded $x^2$=374.2 (p<.001), df=174, $x^2/df$=2.15, GFI=.87, AGFI=.82, NFI=.89, PNFI=.73 RMSEA=.07, and CFI=.94. Conclusion: This study constructed a model that addressed the factors related to binge drinking and described the relationship of these factors in influencing binge drinking among Korean undergraduate students. Findings from this study can contribute to designing appropriate prevention strategies to reduce problem related binge drinking in undergraduate students.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the drinking culture and attitude difference by gender and grade of Korean college students. A questionnaire was conducted to analyze the characteristics and meaningful differences by two variables about drinking pattern, culture and related policies. The analysis showed that regardless of gender, far more students were against than in favor of prohibition on drinking within campus, whose legislation recently failed. Meanwhile, there was a significant difference by grade in victimization experience regarding drinking within the campus, and by gender in frequency, beverage type, volume, onset of drinking within school. There was no statistically significant gender-based difference in response to experience of damage caused by drinking, but the research results of the related papers show that the female students are more dangerous and need special attention and care. Universities should implement a professional counseling program that is customized according to gender or level of education, and managed by group. Moreover, health authorities must seek a way to lead this move, such as providing incentives to the universities, which efficiently deal with students' drinking problem. And the prohibition on drinking within campus, whose legislation recently failed should be reconsidered.

The score of alcohol-related problem(ARP) was as follows: male workers-2.61, female workers-1.61 out of 35. The score of ARP was statistically significantly different according to sex(p〈0.05). A positive correlation was observed between amount of drinking, frequency of drinking and ARP(p〈0.01). The score of knowledge about alcohol was 3.6 and any correlation and statistically significant difference were not observed between the knowledge about alcohol and drinking behavior. • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of the drinking and smoking behaviors of health science majors to their knowledge of and attitude toward drinking and smoking in an effort to determine the influential factors for their drinking and smoking. Methods: The subjects in this study were 380 selected health science majors in two four-year universities and a three-year college that were respectively located in Seoul and Chungcheong Province. A survey was conducted with structured questionnaires from September 1 to 15, 2015. As for statistical data analysis, a statistical package SPSS 18.0 was utilized. Results: There were significant differences between the male and female students in smoking(p=0.000), and no gender differences were found in drinking(p=0.754). The male students who both drank and smoked outnumbered the female students who did, and the female students who only drank outnumbered the male students who did. And the differences were statistically significant(p=0.000). There were statistically significant differences according to smoking and drinking in relationship with professors(p=0.020), peer relationship(p=0.035), drinking attitude(p=0.033, smoking knowledge(p=0.008) and smoking attitude (p=0.006). The factors that affected drinking were religion and the drinking of fathers, and the factors that exerted an influence on smoking were gender, academic year, form of residence, religion and the smoking of family. Conclusions: A lot of temperance and antismoking education programs should be provided for college students in their early school years in the form of peer teaching and in association with their major classes. Besides, they should be encouraged to join clubs related to temperance and antismoking, and professors should try to facilitate their relationship building.
