  • Recently, many high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) bearing wall structures of multiple occupancy have been constructed, which have the irregularities of weak (or soft) story and torsion at the lower stories simultaneously. The study compared the eccentricity of such a building predicted by design codes, EC 8, IBC 2000 and UBC 97, and by the test results through a series of shaking table tests of 1:12 model. Based on the comparison of the predicted eccentricity and the test result, the conclusions are drawn as follow: Accidental torsion due to the uncertainty on the properties of structure can be reasonably predicted by using the dynamic analysis with the center of mass being shifted by 5 percent of the dimension of the building perpendicular to the direction of the excitations than by using equivalent lateral force procedure

  • Purpose: The goal of this study was to define and clarify the concept of "self management" of children with chronic diseases. Methods: For analyzing the concept of self management, this study used the hybrid model. This study involved in-depth interviewing nine children with chronic disease. Results: The concept of self management of children with chronic disease can be categorized with three dimensions: internal, environmental, and behavioral aspects. Besides, five attributes and thirteen indicators were analyzed. The concept of self management of children with chronic disease can be expressed as a kind of process; a) re-established yourself (internal dimension), b) assistance by the surrounded (environmental dimension), and c) positive health management behavior with self control of daily life (behavioral dimension). Conclusion: The self management is important for children with chronic disease to control their disease for long time. The attributes and indicators drawn by this study could be used for tool development and useful resources of self management competence in children with chronic disease.

  • A false signal problem of the bleed air leak detection system in a widely used modem airplane is studied in this paper. It is considered to be a problem of stability of the controller unit. An equivalent circuit is extracted from the study. The circuit is considered to be an alternative bridge. A mathematical model is derived to describe the stability of the circuit. The conclusion is drawn that the sending of the false signal is relevant to not only the sensors, but also the detector. If a parameter in the detector is readjusted, then the problem may be avoided.

  • The purpose of this study is to take a new look at factors affecting the spending of retired elderly households by identifying the effects of different types of wealth components, along with socio-demographic factors, on current consumption. A tobit linear regression model was utilized to estimate parameters in the consumption functions. Data was drawn from the 1990 Consumer Expenditure Survey, Interview Survey in the United States.Total consumption and various consumption categories were the most responsive to changes in annual income flow and the least responsive to changes in property assets. The four wealth components differed in their influence on consumption categories among retired elderly households. In addition, age, residential area, household type, and education were found to be significant factors affecting total consumption and consumption categories of the retired elderly.

  • The purpose or this study was to examine the effect or maternal parenting experience, mediated by maternal depression, marital conflict, and parenting behavior, on school children's maladjustment. The theoretical model was specified and estimated. Subject of this study consisted of 637 mothers having elementary students(from 5th to 6th grade) drawn from 4 elementary schools in Cheong-ju city. Maternal parenting experience in childhood had an indirect effect on school children's maladjustment mediated by maternal depression. Maternal permissive parenting experience had more strong relationship with maternal depression rather than authoritative parenting behavior. Maternal depression, marital conflict, parenting behavior were directly effected on school children's maladjustment. Maternal depression were significantly effected on children's maladjustment indirectly mediated by marital conflict and parenting behavior Maternal depression was the most important factor predicting marital conflict, parenting behavior, and school children's Maladjustment.

  • This paper describes a three-dimensional dynamic finite element analysis of two/multiple shots impacting on a metallic component. The model is validated against a published numerical study. An extensive parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of shot impacting with overlap on the resulting residual stress profile within the component, including time interval between shot impacts, separation distance between the impacting points, and impacting velocity of successive shots. Several meaningful conclusions can be drawn regarding the effect of shot impacting with overlap.

  • In this paper. the Joint reaction forces in the suspension system of a passenger car are determined to calculate the deflections and stresses in the damper strut. A mathematical model of the Roll Stabilizer Bar(RSB) is developed to include the RSB forces in the dynamics analysis. Using these RSB forces, the variations of the damper forces and spring forces due to the wheel strokes are determined in a McPherson strut suspension. The graphs of shear force diagram, bending moment diagram, bending stress and deflections are drawn by the calculated joint reaction forces.

  • The purpose of this research is reconstruction of annual precipitation based on Tree-ring series at Seorak mountain and examine its effectiveness. To do so we performed nonlinear time series characteristics test of Tree-ring series and reconstructed annual precipitation of Gangneung from 1687 to 1911 using Artificial neural network and Nonlinear autoregressive exogeneous input (NARX) model which reflects stochastic properties. As a result, Tree-ring series at Seorak Mountain shows nonlinear time series property and reconstructed annual precipitation series drawn from NARX is similar in statistical characteristics of observed annual time series.

  • World governments and industries have put tremendous efforts for reduction of greenhouse gases. Specifically, IT (information technology) or ICT (information communication technology) is seen to play a pivotal role in green IT since it is deeply penetrated and related to all the industrial and business processes. The objective of this research is to enhance green maturity of a Gangwon province. We first discussed recent trends of green IT approaches/directions and prevailing green readiness indecies. Based on the environmental and industrial characteristics of Gangwon province. a future plan drawn has been examined with regard to a green IT maturity model.

  • The effects of environmental factors on adolescent’s socialization were examined according to the gender. Data were drawn from 1,412 adolescents. A hypothesized model was tested for male and female students separately by the links among housing, family conflicts, parent-adolescent relationship, family stress, peer relations, mass media, school atmosphere, consumption, consumer socialization, and adolescent’s socialization. There was no difference between male and female students in the predictability of the effects of environmental factors on internal and external socialization. For male students, the internal socialization was directly related to mass media, consumer socialization, peer relations, family stress, mother-adolescent relations, and school atmosphere. The external socialization was directly related to mass media, school atmosphere, consumer socialization, father-adolescent relations, housing, and mother-adolescent relations. For female students, the internal socialization was directly related to mass media, peer relations, father-adolescent relations, and consumer socialization. The external socialization was directly related to mass media, followed by consumer socialization, mother-adolescent relations, school atmosphere, housing, and peer relations. The findings are consistent with a growing body of literature showing that the environmental factors are related to male & female adolescent’s socialization.
