  • We have developed the drawing and part information management system that could integrate drawing information with corresponding part information in design process. The modules developed include the drawing information management (DIM) and the part information management(PIM). DIM consist of processing drawing management, approved drawing management, disused drawing management, and drawing print management. PIM consist of new part management, option management, and part change management. Errors which may occur in the design process can be reduced by reference to part information directly. In addition, the number of parts can be reduced by minimizing the frequency of new parts generation through the systematic management.

  • A production management system is developed to enhance both the information and productivity of ship and offshore plant deckhouse floor outfitting. The functions of the production management system for the deckhouse floor outfitting were reviewed based on a literature survey of several production management systems with respect to the ship building and architecture fields. This study investigated numerous daily production reports and their application to actual work places to utilize the system development. The developed scanned drawing-based production management (SDPM) system minimizes any loss and/or distortion of work information between the workshop and management office when applying a scanned production drawing to the daily report. The SDPM system increases the data objectivity, as well as intuitiveness of the information generation by adopting an efficient user interface, which makes it possible to perform image annotations on the scanned drawing for the daily production report while simultaneously interacting with the production management database. Applying the system operation to actual deckhouse floor covering work verified that it was feasible to use the SDPM system for production management in the ship outfitting work process.

  • As part of effort to reduce the process time from design to manufacture and delivery, the concept of CE(concurrent engineering) has been applied to design process. In this research, the drawing information management system (DIMS) was developed based on CE. The system can distribute electronic documents of drawing or work instruction parallel to all reviewers simultaneously and collect their annotations through network. Mark-up functions are used for annotations on the electronic documents. DIMS is a system which integrates drawing management, engineering BOM, CAD and raster drawings, etc. In this system, a SUN workstation is interfaced with PCs by LAN. CIMCAD-2D, Image Hunter, and ORACLE RDBMS are used for CAD drawings, raster drawings, and drawing information management, respectively. As an integration tool for all the information, LINKAGE is adopted.

  • Currently, it is not popular to use the STEP based product information in the construction drawing files, in spite of the importance and possibility of using various product data in drawing files on the CALS/EC environment. This paper aims to demonstrate a construction drawing information management system based on ISO 10303/STEP. To achieve this aim, the authors have analyzed the current construction drawing information classification hierarchy widely used for domestic and international, and examined the material data connection mechanism within CAD drawing data, and finally investigated the management systems for construction documentations and drawings in a public companies. Therefore, the expected benefit of the proposed system is that STEP drawing information management will be done standardization and the information of STEP construction drawing can be managed, shared and supported design business through materials data connection.

  • Construction industry, which is a composite industry being performed by organic combination of various tasks, gives birth to a various of information in the stages of planning, designing, and maintenance management. In particular, the drawing information is broad in the scope of use because it contains all information about buildings as wall as bid, materials, contracts. Therefore, the management of drawing information security is one of the most important factors, which determines the success of failure of business. The major findings and result of this study are as follows to control the distributed drawing information in the collaboration environment. 1) Analysis for function and practical use of DRM in the construction industry. 2) Proposal for applications of DRM that can secure IFC model-based drawing information in the collaboration environment. 3) Extraction from additional IFC entities to apply DRM to part 21 physical files 4) Analysis for functions which are necessary in DRM application prototype system and development of the system. 5) Development IFC model-based DRM prototype system.

A Study on the Quality Improvement of Mechanical Drawing Notes Using Lean 6 Sigma Analysis (린 6시그마 분석을 통한 도면 주기 품질 향상 방안 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find useful solutions by analyzing causes and results about defects on mechanical drawing notes and provide an automated tool with solutions to mechanical engineers. Methods: The collected data for defects on mechanical drawing notes were from ongoing development and mass production projects. Various measurement methods were used based on the Lean 6 Sigma analysis such as Process analysis, C&E diagram and some statistical analysis. Results: The results of this study are as follows; The results of the Lean 6 Sigma analysis, the validity of the selected indicators for improving drawing notes quality was verified through the verification of cause variables. The strategy established to improve the mechanical drawing notes was reflected as an automated program, and the defects were within a manageable range and achieved target Sigma level. Conclusion: Through the application of the "Mechanical drawing notes automation tool", it is expected to resolve the "Voice of Customer, VOC" and "Voice of Business, VOB".

  • In this paper, we introduce the results of investigating and overhauling bearing drawings in the defense field, and propose an effective bearing drawing management system. We identify the features and performance items that must be regulated in the bearing drawing. After reviewing the validity of the bearing drawings, we classify the incorrect drawings by factor. To achieve greater effect, standardized formats are needed to incorporate into the drawing in the early stage. We propose the introduction of a bearing drawing management system so that the developing bearing technology can be applied quickly to the defense sector. As other elementary parts of the machine have similar problems, we think this study will help develop improvement plans.

Drawing Segmentation Module for Management of Building Finish Details (마감상세도 관리를 위한 도면 블록화 모듈 개발)

  • Drawings in construction industry are an aggregation of knowledge containing various information generated in a number of projects. Finish details are generated by architects when they select details and methods of construction by spaces or elements. However it is so difficult to re-use details in existing drawing management systems because there are so many details in a sheet and there are several many kinds of sheets in a file. In this paper, a drawing segmentation algorithm is suggested for managing building finish details individually. Based on this algorithm, a system module for making detail blocks from files of finish details is developed. Using the drawing segmentation module, interfaces of drawing management system are suggested in the paper. Management of individual detail blocks helps to reduce of the time for searching and increases productivity of designed drawings. Also it would contribute to increase quality of designed drawings by reusing of knowledge in detail blocks.

The Development of the Drawing Information Management System Based on Group Technology (Group Technology를 이용한 설계정보관리 시스템의 개발)

  • In order to provide economic high-quality products to customers in a timely manner, companies have tried much effort to decrease the time period of engineering design and information management. As a part of this effort, we have developed the Drawing Information Management System(DIMS) based ofn GT(Group Technology) that could decrease design processing time by speedy and rational management of design processes. The characteristics of DIMS are as follows: First, the concept of Concurrent Engineering was applied to DIMS. Through LAN, reviewers are able to attach comments to dlectronic documents by anno- tation functions called Mark-up. The reviewer annotations are collected and combind with the original document to revise the documents. Second, we have developed a Classification and Coding(C&C) system suitable for electronic component parts bassed on GT(Group Technology). The C&C system makes both parts and drawing with similar characteriscs into families and helps users search existing documents or create new drawings promptly. Finally, DIMS provides the Engineering BOM(Bill of Material) using the concept of Family BOM based on model options.
