The effect of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of exhaust gas emissions, and SFC are experimentally investigated by four-cylinder, four-cycle and direct injection marine diesel engine. In order to reduce the soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to intake system of the engines, a soot removal system of a cylinderical-type scrubber is specially designed and manufactured for the experimental system. (1) SFC is increased in downward convex curve style with increasing excess air ratio, it is increased with increasing EGR rate at the same excess air ratio. (2) NOx emission is reduced in downward convex curve style with increasing excess air ratio, it is reduced with increasing EGR rate at the same excess air ratio. (3) Soot emission is decreased in downward convex curve style with increasing excess air ratio, it is reduced with increasing EGR rate at the same excess air ratio. (4) CO emission is increased in nearly straight line style with increasing excess air ratio, it is increased with increasing EGR rate at the same excess air ratio. (5) HC emission is not constant tendency with increasing excess air ratio, it is increased with increasing EGR rate at the same excess air ratio.
After a severe accident to the nuclear reactor, the in-vessel retention strategy is a key way to prevent the leakage of radioactive material. Nanofluid is a steady suspension used to improve heat-transfer characteristics of working fluids, formed by adding solid particles with diameters below 100nm to the base fluids, and its thermal physical properties and heat-transfer characteristics are much different from the conventional working fluids. Thus, nanofluids with appropriate nanoparticle type and volume concentration can enhance the heat-transfer process. In this study, the moving particle semi-implicit method-meshless advection using flow-directional local grid method is used to simulate the bubble growth, departure, and sliding on the downward-facing heating surface in pure water and nanofluid (1.0 vol.% $Al_2O_3/H_2O$) flow boiling processes; additionally, the bubble critical departure angle and sliding characteristics and their influence are also investigated. The results indicate that the bubble in nanofluid departs from the heating surface more easily and the critical departure inclined angle of nanofluid is greater than that of pure water. In addition, the influence of nanofluid on bubble sliding is not significant compared with pure water.

The subchannel of a research reactor used to generate high power density is designed to be narrow and rectangular and comprises plate-type fuels operating under downward flow conditions. Critical heat flux (CHF) is a crucial parameter for estimating the safety of a nuclear fuel; hence, this parameter should be accurately predicted. Here, machine learning is applied for the prediction of CHF in a narrow rectangular channel. Although machine learning can effectively analyze large amounts of complex data, its application to CHF, particularly for narrow rectangular channels, remains challenging because of the limited flow conditions available in existing experimental databases. To resolve this problem, we used four CHF correlations to generate pseudo-data for training an artificial neural network. We also propose a network architecture that includes pre-training and prediction stages to predict and analyze the CHF. The trained neural network predicted the CHF with an average error of 3.65% and a root-mean-square error of 17.17% for the test pseudo-data; the respective errors of 0.9% and 26.4% for the experimental data were not considered during training. Finally, machine learning was applied to quantitatively investigate the parametric effect on the CHF in narrow rectangular channels under downward flow conditions.

It seems like many songs have the tonality of one key in jazz standards, but there are many cases in which more than one new key could be formed, despite being a short moment. Moreover, some songs contain keys of temporary changes many times in the event that keys are changed transitionally with the sequencing of cords many times, which is called 'Transitional Modulation with Sequences. The proceeding II-V-I of the major and minor keys are used as the sequencing of cords, and the most popular type in this sequencing pattern is the downward modulation in whole-steps or half-steps. The downward modulation in the interval of whole-steps is a useful technique; for example, there should be three compositions in the adjacency circumstances when it is used twice. We could express effectively a phenomenon that feelings go up to the climax and rapidly fall down. The downward modulation in half-steps must be more dramatic because a higher comparative aspect is made between the adjacent two keys.
An experimental study has been peformed on the pool-boiling critical heat flux (CHF) phenomenon on downward -facing plates. The CHF for inclinations of -90$^{\circ}$(horizontally downward position), -88$^{\circ}$, -86$^{\circ}$, -84$^{\circ}$, -60$^{\circ}$ and -40$^{\circ}$ were measured using plate-type test sections of 20mm 200mm and 25mm 200mm in a pool of saturated water under atmospheric pressure. The measured CHF was lower for the wider test section and decreased as its orientation approached to the horizontally downward position. The lower CHF can be attributable to the increased difficulty for the bubbles in escaping from the heater surface. When compared with the previous works, the overall trends were similar; however, a transition angle, at which the decrease rate in the CHF was changed, was observed in the vicinity of -80$^{\circ}$.
This study attempts to investigate the relations between the types of communication, the job satisfaction. and the nursing performance of the staff nurses. The subjects of this study were the 114 nurses working in general wards, intensive care units, and the emergency rooms of the general hospital in Kyongbuk province. They were asked to answer the questionnaires as regards the types of communication and job satisfaction, and their performance of nursing, and these were evaluated by the head nurses, and their direct seniors. The data were collected for 10 days from the September 17 to 26, 2002. According to the purpose of the study, descriptive analysis, ANOVA. Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression were applied for the data analysis using SPSS 10.0. The results are as follows : 1. The types of communication of staff nurses showed that the upward communication was $3.12\pm0.56$. the downward communication was $3.56\pm0.42$. the horizontal communication was $2.98\pm0.44$. and the informal communication was $2.59\pm0.49$. It showed that the most frequent communication was the downward communication. 2. In terms of the job satisfaction, there was significant difference according to the length of the period working for one ward (F=5.95, p=0.003), 3. The performance of nursing was significantly different according to the age (F=23.52, p=0.000), the working duration as a nurses (F=21.9, p=0.000), the types of nursing unit (F=5.33, p=0.002), and the working duration in present nursing unit (F=15.87, p=0.000). 4. In terms of communication type, the job satisfaction was associated with quality of the upward communication (F=6.23, p=0.003), the downward communication (F=5.78, p=0.004), and the horizontal communication (F=11.73, p=0.000) There were no association between the types of communication and the performance of nursing. 5. There was a positive correlation between the communication and the job satisfaction. And the downward communication (r=0.398) showed the greatest correlation with the job satisfaction. There was no statistically significant correlation between the communication and the performance of nursing. Non-specular, vertically upward transit, fast-moving radar echoes are observed in the summer polar upper mesosphere near 90 km using 52 MHz VHF radar at Esrange, Sweden. By resolving maximum echo power movement, the unusual meteor trails propagate vertically upward with taking horizontal displacements at an initial speed of 10 km/s exponentially decreasing with increasing height from 85-89 km, lasting for 3.5 sec. Another upward transit is observed as following a downward transit echo target in about ~1 sec, lasting over 5 sec. The upward motion cannot be explained with the dynamics of penetrating meteors or by atmospheric dynamics. The observation proposes that secondary produced plasma jets occurring from meteor trail are possibly responsible for upward fast moving echoes. The long-lasting (3-5 sec), ascending meteor trails at speeds of a few $10^4m/s$ are distinctive from any previous occurrences of meteors or upper atmospheric electrical discharges in the aspect of long-lasting upward/downward motions. This result possibly suggests a new type of meteor-trail leader discharge occurring in the summer polar upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere.
In this study, basic design data which were required for development of highly efficient ice storage system with low temperature latent heat were experimentally obtained. The ice storage system considered in this study was the one that has been widly used in the developed country and called the ice-on-coil type. Using the system, the ice storage performance for various design parameters which were the flow direction and the inlet temperature of the secondary fluid was tested. In addition, the timewise variation of the interface profiles between the solid and the liquid were visualized, and the heat transfer characteristics of the Phase Change Material(PCM) in the ice storage tank were Investigated. During the freezing processes in the ice storage tank with several vertical tubes, decrease of the heat transfer area and the heat resistance of the ice layer made the increasing rate of ice packing factor(IPF) less. The total freezing energy for the upward flow of the secondary fluid was higher than that for the downward flow. The average ice storage efficiency for the upward flow of the secondary fluid was higher than that for the downward flow.
