Lithium Ion capacitor (LIC) is a new storage device which combines high power density and high energy density compared to conventional supercapacitors. LIC is capable of storing approximately 5.10 times more energy than conventional EDLCs and also have the benefits of high power and long cycle-life. In this study, LICs are assembled with activated carbon (AC) cathode and pre-doped graphite anode. Cathode material of natural graphite and artificial graphite kinds of MAGE-E3 was selected as the experiment proceeds. Super-P as a conductive agent and PTFE was used as binder, with the graphite: conductive agent: binder of 85: 10: 5 ratio of the negative electrode was prepared. Lithium doping condition of current density of $2mA/cm^2$ to $1mA/cm^2$, and was conducted by varying the doping. Results Analysis of Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer (ICP) was used and a $1mA/cm^2$ current density, $2mA/cm^2$, when more than 1.5% of lithium ions was confirmed that contained. In addition, lithium ion doping to 0.005 V at 10, 20 and $30^{\circ}C$ temperature varying the voltage variation was confirmed, $20^{\circ}C$ cell from the low internal resistance of $4.9{\Omega}$ was confirmed.
In this review, the theory and applications of the complex capacitance analysis, which can be utilized in analyzing capacitor-like electrochemical systems, were summarized. Theoretically, it was suggested that the imaginary capacitance plots (Cim vs. log f) can provide a simple way to analyze electrochemical characteristics of capacitive systems, without complicated mathematical calculations. The usefulness of the complex capacitance analysis has been demonstrated by applying it to analyze EDLC characteristics of practical porous carbon electrodes, ionic conductivities inside small pores, and ionic resistances in the catalyst layers of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells.

This work describes the effect of the number of roll pressing and the composition of carbon black on the electric and mechanical properties of carbon-PTFE electrode, in which composition is MSP20 : carbon black : $PTFE\;=\;95-X\;:\;X\;:\;5wt.\%$. It was found that the best electric and mechanical properties were obtained for sheet electrode roll pressed about 15 times and for sheet electrode, in which composition is MSP20 : carton black $PTFE\;=\;80\;:\;15\;:\;5wt.\%$. These behaviors could be explained by the network structure of PTFE fibrils and conducting Paths linked with carbon blacks, respectively. On the other hand, cell capacitor using the sheet electrode with $15wt.\%$ of carbon black attached on aluminum current collector with the electric conductive adhesive, in composition is carbon black $CMC\;=\;70\;:\;30wt.\%$, has exhibited the best rate capability between $0.5\;mA/cm^2\~100\;mA/cm^2$ current density and the lowest ESR.

This work describes the effect of the number of roll pressing and the composition of carbon black on the electric and mechanical properties of carbon-PTFE electrode, in which composition is MSP20 : carbon black: PTFE = 95-X : X : 5 wt.%. It was found that the best electric and mechanical properties were obtained for sheet electrode roll pressed about 15 times and for sheet electrode, in which composition is MSP20 carbon black : PTFE = 80 : 15 : 5 wt%. On the other hand, cell capacitor using the sheet electrode with 15 wt.% of carbon black attached on aluminum current collector with the electric conductive adhesive, in composition is carbon black : CMC = 70 : 30 wt.%, has exhibited the best rate capability between 0.5 $mA/cm^2$ ~ 100 $mA/cm^2$ current density and the lowest ESR.
Ta2O5 films were deposited on the p-Si(100) substrates by ECR-PECVD and annealed in O2 atmosphere. The thicknesses of Ta2O5/SiO2 layers were measured by an ellipsometer and a cross-sectional TEM. Annealing in O2 atmosphere enhanced the stoichiometry of the Ta2O5 film and reduced the impurity carbon content. Ta2O5 films were crystallized at the annealing temperatures above 75$0^{\circ}C$. The best leakage current characteristics and the maximum dielectric constant of Ta2O5/SiO2 film capacitor were observed in the specimen annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ and 75$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The flat band voltage of the Al/Ta2O5/SiO2/p-Si MOS capacitor was varied in the range of -0.6~-1.6 V with the annealing temperature. The conduction mechanism in the Ta2O5 film, the variation of the effective oxide charge density with the annealing temperature, and the effective electric field distribution in the Ta2O5/SiO2 double layer were also discussed.
A hybrid supercapacitor is fabricated using a composite material from $LiMn_2O_4$ (LMO) and activated carbon (AC) as the positive electrode and AC as the negative electrode to form the (LMO + AC)/AC system. Volume ratio (positive : negative) of electrodes is controlled to investigate of the power and energy balance. The (LMO + AC)/AC system shows better performances than the LMO/AC system. Especially, electrochemical impedance spectra, rate charge.discharge and cycle performance testing show that the (LMO + AC)/AC system have an outstanding electrochemical performance at volume ratios of (LMO + AC)/AC = 1 : 1.7 and 1 : 2. Electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) capacitance between AC of the positive electrode and AC of the negative electrode improves power density without loss of capacitance. Stable capacitance is achieved by lowering the positive electrode resistance and balancing the energy and power densities between the positive and negative electrodes by the addition of AC to the positive electrode at high current density.

The electrochemical properties of electric double layer capacitor(EDLC) was studied by controlling pore size distribution and specific surface area of the activated carbon fiber(ACF). The mesoporous ACF, which was prepared by the iron exchange method, showed the tendency of increasing average pore size and decreasing total surface area. The mesoporous ACF (surface area = 2225 $m^2$/g, pore size=1.93 nm) showed increased mesopore(pore size=1~3nm) volume from 0.055 cc/g to 0.408 cc/g compared to its raw ACF. The charging capacity of the EDLC which uses the prepared mesoporous ACF also increased from 0.39 F/$cm^2$ to 0.55 F/$cm^2$. From these results, it can be known that the electrochemical properties of EDLC are mainly dependent on the specific surface area, but above the surface area 2200 $m^2$/g, it is the mesopore volume that affects the performance of the capacitor considerably. Because the increased mesopore volume results in a decreased ion mobility resistance, the charge capacitance is enhanced.
When a $Ta_O_5$ dielectric film is deposited on a bare silicon, the growth of $SiO_2$ at the $Ta_O_5$/Si interface cannot be avoided. Even though the $SiO_2$ layer is ultrathin (a few nm), it has great effects on the electrical properties of the capacitor. The concentration depth profiles of the ultrathin interfacial $SiO_2$ and $SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ layers were obtained using an Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) equipped with a cylindrical mirror analyzer (CMA). These AES depth profiles were quantitatively analyzed by comparing with the theoretical depth profiles which were obtained by considering the inelastic mean free path of Auger electrons and the angular acceptance function of CMA. The direct measurement of the interfacial layer thicknesses by using a high resolution cross-sectional TEM confirmed the accuracy of the AES depth analysis. The $SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ double layers, which were not distinguishable from each other under the TEM observation, could be effectively analyzed by the AES depth profiling technique.

The oxidation treatment of several carbon materials with a sodium chlorate and 70 wt.% of nitric acid, combined with heat treatment, were attempted to achieve an electrochemical active material with a larger capacitance. Among pitch, needle coke, calcinated needle coke and natural graphite, the structure of needle coke and calacinated needle coke were changed to the graphite oxide structure with the expansion of the inter-layer. On the other hand, the calcinated needle coke after oxidation and heating at $200^{\circ}C$ has exhibited largest capacitance per weight and volume of 29.5 F/g and 24.5 F/ml at the two-electrode system in the potential range of 0 to 2.5 V. The electrochemical performance of the calcinated needle coke was discussed with the phenomenon of the electric field activation and the formation of new pores between the expanded inter-layer at first charge.
Modifying surface of activated carbon for the electrode of EDLC with an organic electrolyte was investigated to improve the electrochemical performance of EDLC by the microwave radiation. Three kinds of activated carbons, prepared activated carbon from petroleum cokes and pitch cokes and commercial activated carbon BP-25, were used for this study. For all investigated activated carbons, hydrophilic functional groups-containing oxygen disappeared from the surface of activated carbon as microwave radiation. And as microwave radiation time was increased, the specific surface area and total pore volume of activated carbons were reduced and average pore diameter were increased. From theses effects, interfacial resistance of EDLC with the modified activated carbon electrode was drastically decreased, and discharge capacitance was increased although the specific surface area of activated carbon was reduced by this microwave radiation.
