  • Predicting the location and intensity of precipitation still remains a main issue in numerical weather prediction (NWP). Resolution is a very important component of precipitation forecasts in NWP. Compared with a lower resolution model, a higher resolution model can predict small scale (i.e., storm scale) precipitation and depict convection structures more precisely. In addition, an ensemble technique can be used to improve the precipitation forecast because it can estimate uncertainties associated with forecasts. Therefore, NWP using both a higher resolution model and ensemble technique is expected to represent inherent uncertainties of convective scale motion better and lead to improved forecasts. In this study, the limited area ensemble prediction system for the convective-scale (i.e., high resolution) operational Unified Model (UM) in Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) was developed and evaluated for the ensemble forecasts during August 2012. The model domain covers the limited area over the Korean Peninsula. The high resolution limited area ensemble prediction system developed showed good skill in predicting precipitation, wind, and temperature at the surface as well as meteorological variables at 500 and 850 hPa. To investigate which combination of horizontal resolution and ensemble member is most skillful, the system was run with three different horizontal resolutions (1.5, 2, and 3 km) and ensemble members (8, 12, and 16), and the forecasts from the experiments were evaluated. To assess the quantitative precipitation forecast (QPF) skill of the system, the precipitation forecasts for two heavy rainfall cases during the study period were analyzed using the Fractions Skill Score (FSS) and Probability Matching (PM) method. The PM method was effective in representing the intensity of precipitation and the FSS was effective in verifying the precipitation forecast for the high resolution limited area ensemble prediction system in KMA.

  • In a software testing domain, test case prioritization techniques improve the performance of regression testing, and arrange test cases in such a way that maximum available faults be detected in a shorter time. User-sessions and cookies are unique features of web applications that are useful in regression testing because they have precious information about the application state before and after making changes to software code. This approach is in fact a user-session based technique. The user session will collect from the database on the server side, and test cases are released by the small change configuration of a user session data. The main challenges are the effectiveness of Average Percentage Fault Detection rate (APFD) and time constraint in the existing techniques, so in this paper developed an intelligent framework which has three new techniques use to manage and put test cases in group by applying useful criteria for test case prioritization in web application regression testing. In dynamic weighting approach the hybrid criteria which set the initial weight to each criterion determines optimal weight of combination criteria by evolutionary algorithms. The weight of each criterion is based on the effectiveness of finding faults in the application. In this research the priority is given to test cases that are performed based on most common http requests in pages, the length of http request chains, and the dependency of http requests. To verify the new technique some fault has been seeded in subject application, then applying the prioritization criteria on test cases for comparing the effectiveness of APFD rate with existing techniques.

  • In this paper a hybrid grid generation program for general 2-D region is introduced. The program is developed by using JAVA programming language, and it can be used either as an application program on a local computer or as an applet in the network environment. The hybrid grid system for a 2-D problem means a combination of triangular cells and quadrilateral cells, and it can offer both of the high flexibility of triangular cells and the high accuracy and efficiency of structured-type quadrilateral cells. To accommodate a quadrilateral-cell region and a triangular-cell region into one computational domain, it is importance to take good care of the interface between two different regions so that overall good grid quality can be maintained. In this research advancing layer method(ALM) augmented by elliptic smoothing method is used for the quadrilateral-cell region and advancing front method(AFM) is used for the triangular-cell region. A special treatment technique for the interface between those two regions is also developed. The interface treatment technique is basically to prevent the propagation of small cell size due to ALM method into the triangular region and maintain the smooth transition of cell-size scale between two different regions. By applying current technique high-quality hybrid grids for general 2-D regions can be easily generated, and typical grid generation results and flow solutions are demonstrated.

  • As quick and secure mobility service is becoming a critical issue in the ubiquitous environment. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has done a lot of meaningful work in order to cope with the critical issues, which is a key technology of guaranteeing the legally and safely using of network resources, they has proposed Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) to complement for such problems as handover latency and signaling overhead in existing MIPv6. Most of the current research about HMIPv6 focuses on how to optimize the interactive processes between the HMIPv6 and AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) protocol. This paper describes a cost-effective hierarchical authentication scheme, which makes its focus on minimizing the authentication latency in AAA processing. In this scheme, a hierarchical AAA architecture is proposed, in which the AAA servers are deployed on the Mobility Anchor Point (MAP), the Root AAA server manages several Leaf AAA servers and the Brokers on behalf of the AAA server in home domain. The simulation results shows that the proposed scheme reduces the handoff and authentication latency evidently compared to the previous traditional authentication combination modeling.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an expert system supporting the diagnosis of diffuse interstitial lung disease by high resolution computed tomography. CLIPS(C language integrated production system) with rule-based reasoning was used to develop the system. Development of expert system had three stages knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, and reasoning. Knowledge was obtained and integrated, from tables and figure legends of a representative textbook in the domain of this expert system, High-Resolution CT of the Lung, by Webb WR, Mueller NL, and Naidich DP. The acquired knowledge was analyzed to form a knowledge base. Overlapping knowledge was eliminated, similar pieces of knowledge were combined and professional terms were defined. The most important knowledge of findings was then selected for each disease. After groupings of combined findings were made, disease groups were analyzed sequentially to determine final diagnoses. The system was based upon the input of 69 diseases, 185 findings, 73 conditions, 387 status, and 62 rules. The system was set up to determine the diagnoses of diseases from the combination of findings using forward reasoning. In an empirical trial, the system was applied to support the diagnosis of 40 cases of diffuse interstitial lung diseases. The performance of two doctors with support of the system was compared to that of another two doctors without support of the system. The two doctors with the support of the system made more accurate diagnoses than the doctors without the support of the system. The system is believed to be useful for the diagnosis of rare diseases and for cases with many possible differential diagnoses. In conclusion, an expert system supporting the high resolution computed tomographic diagnosis of diffuse interstitial lung disease was developed and the system is thought to be useful for medical practice.

  • In this paper, a gain-adapted speech recognition method in noise is developed in the time domain. Noise is assumed to be colored. To cope with the notable nonstationary nature of speech signals such as fricative, glides, liquids, and transition region between phones, the nonstationary autoregressive (NAR) hidden Markov model (HMM) is used. The nonstationary AR process is represented by using polynomial functions with a linear combination of M known basis functions. When only noisy signals are available, the estimation problem of noise inevitably arises. By using multiple Kalman filters, the estimation of noise model and gain contour of speech is performed. Noise estimation of the proposed method can eliminate noise from noisy speech to get an enhanced speech signal. Compared to the conventional ARHMM with noise estimation, our proposed NAR-HMM with noise estimation improves the recognition performance about 2-3%.

  • A rudder roll control system is developed and analyzed to control the yawing and rolling motion of ship in irregular waves. The 4-DOF maneuvering equations of motion are derived to carry out the simulation of the motion of a ship and the wave forces are considered as the external forces of a ship in the simulation. The wave forces in the time domain analysis are generated from the frequency transfer function calculated by 3-D source distribution method. The rudder roll control system is developed by linear combination of PD rudder controllers of yawing and rolling motion. Rudder rate speed and Schilling rudder are considered to increase the roll reduction efficiency.

  • Illegal and harmful contents on the Internet has been an issue and been increased in Korea. They are often posted on the billboard and website of small enterprise and government office. Those illegal and harmful contents can relate to crime and suspicious activity, so, we need a detection system. However, to date the detection itself has been conducted manually by a person. In this paper, we develop an automated URL detection scheme for detecting a drug trafficking by using Google. This system works by analyzing the frequently used keywords in a drug trafficking and generate a keyword dictionary to store words for future search. The suspected drug trafficking URL are automatically collected based on the keyword dictionary by using Google search engine. The suspicious URL can be detected by classifying and numbering each domain from the collection of the suspected URL. This proposed automated URL detection can be an effective solution for detecting a drug trafficking, also reducing time and effort consumed by human-based URL detection.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of the high resolution topographies and landuses data on simulated meteorological variables (wind speed at 10 m, temperature at 2 m and relative humidity at 2 m) in WRF. We compare the results with WRF simulation using each resolution of the topographies and landuses, and with 37 AWS observation data on the Seoul metropolitan regions. According to results of using high-resolution topography, WRF model gives better topographical expression over domain. And we can separate more detail (Low intensity residential, high intensity residential, industrial or commercial) using high resolution landuses data. The result shows that simulated temperature and wind speed are generally higher than AWS observation data. However, simulation trend with temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity are similar to observation data. The reason for that is that the high precipitation event occurred in CASE 1 and 2. Temperature have correlation of 0.43~0.47 and standard deviation of $2.12{\sim}2.28^{\circ}C$ in CASE 1, while correlation of more than 0.8 and standard deviation of $3.05{\sim}3.18m\;s^{-1}$ in CASE 2. In case of wind speed, correlation have lower than 0.5 and Standard Deviation of $1.88{\sim}2.34m\;s^{-1}$ in CASE 1 and 2. In statistical analysis shows that using highest resolution (U01) results are more close to the AWS observation data. It can be concluded that the topographies and landuses are important factor that affect model simulation. However, the tendency to always use high resolution topographies and landuses data appears to be unjustified, and optimal solution depends on the combination of scale effect and mechanisms of dynamic models.
