Co-located and space-shared multiple-input multiple-output antenna module and its applications in 12 × 12 multiple-input multiple-output systems

  • In this study, we developed a co-located and space-shared multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna module with a modular design and high integration level. The proposed antenna pair includes a half-wavelength loop antenna and a dipole-type antenna printed on the front and back sides of a compact modular board. Owing to their modal orthogonality, these two independent antenna elements are highly self-isolated and free of additional decoupling components, even though they are assembled at the same location and within the same space. Thus, the proposed antenna is attractive in 5G MIMO systems. Furthermore, the proposed co-located and space-shared MIMO antenna module was employed in a 5G smartphone to verify their radiation and diversity performances. A 12 × 12 MIMO antenna system was simulated and fabricated using the proposed module. Based on the results, the proposed module can be employed in large-scale MIMO antenna systems for current and future terminal devices owing to its high integration, compactness, simple implementation, and inherent isolation.

  • The advent of 6G networks, anticipated around 2030, will lead to the seamless convergence of high-capacity ultrareliable communications with precision sensing. This convergence will revolutionize wireless communications and enable applications such as autonomous and precise manufacturing even in vulnerable radio environments and delivering immersive extended reality experiences to passengers on high-speed trains. We present technological trends and standardization efforts toward the development of the key wireless access elements to meet the demands of this upcoming futuristic era.

서울시 지하철 역세권의 TOD 계획요소별 공간적 특성 분류 (A Study on the Classification of the Spatial Characteristics by TOD Planning Elements of Subway Station Areas in Seoul)

  • 최근 대중교통지향형개발(TOD)이 활발해지며, 역세권에 관한 관심이 증폭되고 있다. 역세권은 전통적인 대중교통 중심지 역할을 수행할 수 있다는 점에서 매력적이다. 그러나 역세권은 다양한 유형이 존재하고 있으나, 그러한 실증연구 분석은 다소 미진한 편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 대중교통체계가 잘 갖추어져 있는 고밀도의 서울시를 대상으로 역세권의 다양한 유형을 파악하기 위하여 철도역으로 부터의 거리별로 TOD계획요소(밀도, 다양성, 접근성 등)를 중심으로 지표를 추출하여 요인분석과 GIS 공간분석을 시도하였으며, 유형화된 역세권의 특성 요인을 활용하여 국내 실증분석에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다. 분석결과, 역세권의 TOD 통합 계획요소에 대한 요인분석에서 도출된 흥미로운 결과는 첫째, 토지이용과 대중교통, 연계교통수단의 특성이 별개로 유형화되며, 둘째, 역세권의 유형에 대한 유형을 명명하면, 고밀-상업, 업무형(Factor1), 소규모 획지형(Factor2), 주거밀집형(Factor3), 복합개발형(Factor4), 연계수단형(Factor5), 타역인접형(Factor6), BRT혼합형(Factor7)으로 총 7개 유형에 영향을 받고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 역세권의 영향요인 및 유형별로 공간분포 특성을 살펴보면, BRT혼합형(Factor7)의 경우는 서울의 중심부에서 외곽으로 분포하는 도로 부분을 중심으로 발달해 있으며, 상대적으로 취약한 역세권도 확인 가능하였다. 본 연구는 각 역세권 공간적 특성 및 영향요인을 확인가능하고, GIS와 연동 가능하므로 도시 및 교통관련 정책입안자들에게 역세권의 개발 계획 수립시 기초자료로 제시될 수 있을 것이다.

다양한 기후요소와 지표에 대한 CMIP5 GCMs 모델 성능 평가 -미국 남동부 지역을 대상으로- (Assessing the Performance of CMIP5 GCMs for Various Climatic Elements and Indicators over the Southeast US)

  • 본 연구에서는 전지구 기후모델의 성능을 평가함에 있어 기후 요소와 평가 지표에 따른 분석 결과의 다양성에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 미국 남동부 지역을 대상으로 17개의 CMIP5 GCM의 강우량, 일 최대 최저기온, 풍속에 대한 과거기간(1950~2000)의 모의 결과를 같은 기간의 관측치와 비교한 오차와 상관도를 이용하여 정량적으로 평가하였다. 기후 모델 산출물을 효과적으로 분석하기 위해 격자 단위 관측 자료를 평가기준으로 사용하였으며 다양한 형태의 기상 특성에 대한 모의 성능을 다각적으로 진단하기 위해 기후 정보(평균적 기후 통계량, 시간 변동성, 극한 사상 빈도 등)를 16개 지표로 정의하여 평가에 적용하였다. 또한 산정된 오차와 상관도를 기반으로 대상지역에 대한 기후요소별 GCM 성능 순위를 도출하여 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 기온에 대한 기후 특성에 대한 모델 재현성은 전반적으로 뛰어난 반면 강우량 및 풍속에 대한 모델 성능은 일 변동성을 제외한 대부분 지표들에 대해 비교적 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 더불어 모델의 정확도 순위는 기후 요소, 평가 지표, 그리고 오차 산정 방법에 따라 다양하게 나타남을 확인하였다. 특히 IPSL-CM5A-LR 모델은 대상지역에 대한 적용성이 현저히 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 다양한 기후변화 영향 연구에 적합한 모델 선정과 기후 모델의 불확실성을 고려한 합리적 미래 예측을 위해서는 다각적이고 면밀한 모델 평가가 선행되어야 함을 시사한다.

건강마을의 건축적 치유요소 연구 (A Study on the Healing Architecture of Health Promotion Villages)

  • This study aimed to analyze health promotion villages from the perspective of therapeutic architecture, and to provide basic information for planning relevant health facilities. On the basis of a review of previous literature, the characteristics of therapeutic architecture were classified into eight categories: safety, comfort, sociality, autonomy, openness, diversity, privacy, and natural environment. Field study and observation were performed in four health promotion villages that conduct programs for lifestyle improvement, physical fitness, and treatment; these villages were also considered to have a healthy residential environment. The researcher and three assistants visited the facilities and checked utilization of space through interviews with the staff and guided tours. Basic information about the subject facilities, such as the purpose of establishment, was gathered from websites before visits. Two of the villages examined in this study had a traditional Korean wooden structure, while the other two were reinforced concrete and masonry block structures. All the facilities emphasized the use of environmentally friendly material and harmony with nature. Each site was divided into the following areas: office, residence, health/treatment, public/rest, and outdoor. The safety standards of the healing architecture were not completely satisfactory at all facilities. In particular, it was found that they lacked adequate universal design equipment. However, the healing characteristics of autonomy and diversity were strong. With regard to autonomy, the facilities allowed visitors to select indoor-outdoor moving lines and the use of front- and backyards constructed on slopes. In addition, they were equipped with many entries, staircases, void, terraces, and crossroads. The architecture was aesthetically designed using feng shui symbolism, and visitors found the scenes depicted in various spaces in the villages to be stimulating. Besides, the facilities were constructed using natural materials, had a natural indoor environment, and provided a sense of spaciousness and flexibility.

  • 본 연구에서는 무분별한 개발로 인한 자연경관훼손의 예방을 목적으로 자연경관보존방안을 제정하기 위한 경관평가를 수행하였다. 우리나라에서의 경관평가는 개발계획에 따른 시각경관만을 평가하고 있는 현실이며, 경관의 생태적 본질까지 동시에 평가하지는 못하고 있는 실정이어서 이에 대한 대책이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이를 위해 시각경관민감도와 생태경관다양성을 요소로 하는 경관평가를 진행하였다. 경관평가의 목적은 실질적인 보존지역을 설정하고 그에 따른 계획을 수립하기 위함이기 때문에 이앤 맥하그(Ian McHarg)의 도면중첩법을 적용한 지리정보시스템(Geographic Information System: GIS)를 활용하였으며, 생태경관다양도와 시각경관민감도를 측정하여 중첩분석하였다. 또한, 경관영향요소의 영향력분석을 통해 집중관리지역을 분석할 수 있었다.

Investments on Pro-poor Development Projects on Goats: Ensuring Success for Improved Livelihoods

  • The elements that determine the success of development projects on goats and the prerequisites for ensuring this are discussed in the context of the bewildering diversity of goat genetic resources, production systems, multifunctionality, and opportunities for responding to constraints for productivity enhancement. Key determinants for the success of pro-poor projects are the imperatives of realistic project design, resolution of priorities and positive impacts to increase investments and spur agricultural growth, and appropriate policy. Throughout the developing world, there exist 97% of the total world population of 921 million goats across all agroecological zones (AEZs), including 570 breeds and 64% share of the breeds. They occupy a very important biological and socioeconomic niche in farming systems making significant multifunctional contributions especially to food, nutrition and financial security, stability of farm households, and survival of the poor in the rural areas. Definitions are given of successful and failed projects. The analyses highlighted in successful projects the value of strong participatory efforts with farmers and climate change. Climate change effects on goats are inevitable and are mediated through heat stress, type of AEZ, water availability, quantity and quality of the available feed resources and type of production system. Within the prevailing production systems, improved integrated tree crops - ruminant systems are underestimated and are an important pathway to enhance C sequestration. Key development strategies and opportunities for research and development (R and D) are enormous, and include inter alia defining a policy framework, resolution of priority constraints using systems perspectives and community-based participatory activities, application of yield-enhancing technologies, intensification, scaling up, and impacts. The priority for development concerns the rainfed areas with large concentrations of ruminants in which goats, with a capacity to cope with heat tolerance, can be the entry point for development. Networks and networking are very important for the diffusion of information and can add value to R and D. Well formulated projects with clear priority setting and participatory R and D ensure success and the realisation of food security, improved livelihoods and self-reliance in the future.

과학계 박물관의 전시공간구성과 관람객 움직임의 특성(I) (A Study on the Spatial Configuration and Characteristics of Visitors' Movement in Science Museum(I))

  • The premise of this study is that an ultimate objective in planning an exhibition space is visitors' experiences created by a result of their first-hand experiences and responses within an exhibition space, and this result can be recognized in the visitors' movement. Thus, the exhibition layout that can directly affects viewers' main line of flow and movement patterns was examined vis--vis a mutually complementary relation in a triangular composition with the structure of exhibition space and the exhibition contents. This study, with the subjects of standing exhibit halls of Gwacheon National Science Museum, Daejeon National Science Museum, and Tokyo National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, analyzed 'the correlation between the configuration of the exhibition area and the visitors' movement. The targeted subjects were analyzed from the perspectives of type of architectural space and organization of the exhibition method, and the purpose of this study was to find a spatial evidence to predict the spectator movement formed within the exhibition halls of science museums. The main indicators used are: Based on the investigation/analysis as described above, the following conclusion could be drawn. Diversity of exhibition environment and spectator movement: besides the two big categories of the types of architectural space and types of exhibition method, the construction of vertical circulation and size and shape of the exhibition space, distribution characteristics of exhibition medium, organization of symbolic space and such other diverse organizations and combinations of exhibition environment are implied to have the capability to alter the scope and degree of predicting spectator movement. As an example, the types of architectural space comprising the wide-area viewing circulation was found to be able to change the system of planar circulation according to the composition of vertical circulation. Along with this, it was implied that the format of architectural space influences the form of the exhibition space, and may also act as a factor directly influencing the diversity and arrangement of the exhibition methods. That is, the spatial elements comprising the exhibition environment acts inter-complexly, and exhibits characteristics of limiting or controlling spectator movement.

주거환경의 삶의 질 향상을 고려하는 사회적 지속가능성 평가 지표 제안 연구 (A Study on Evaluation Indicator of Social Sustainability Considering Improvement of Quality of Life in Residential Environment)

  • In this research, an attempt was made to approach social sustainability of residential environments that have been studied thus far in community-oriented research in a broader perspective, with the aim to induce evaluation indicators for social sustainability of a residential environment that is oriented for enhancement of the residents' life quality. First, evaluation system of social sustainability of residential environments is divided into 6 areas that include regionality, diversity, fairness, satisfaction of diverse needs, social exchange, and participation and decision making. A subdivision was also introduced to account for evaluation properties by area. Second, regarding measurement of life quality in a residential environment, the scope of evaluation was divided into residential environment dimension, resident dimension, and management dimension which can incorporate both objective evaluation and subjective evaluation in consideration of the fact that it involves both physical environment and socio-psychological elements. Third, evaluation indicators by area were collected based on an analysis of preceding studies. For the purpose, a total of 193 indicators were extracted, including 28 items of regionality area, 26 items of diversity area, 28 items of fairness area, 58 items of satisfaction of diverse needs, 34 items of social exchange area, and 19 items of participation and decision making area. The kind of evaluation indicators have meaning in that it can be used as an evaluation tool of social sustainability that can be applied universally from the planning stage. It can be utilized as a basic data for enhancement of life quality and promotion of social values in a residential environment.

WiBro 상량링크에서 I/Q 불균형 성분을 추정하기 위한 새로운 부채널 할당 방식 (Novel allocation method of tiles in Subchannel for I/Q imbalances Estimation in WiBro uplink)

  • 본 논문에서는 RF 단에서 직접변환 방식을 사용하고 있는 Wibro 상향링크에서 대칭되는 부반송파 간 확산으로 작용하여 성능 저하를 일으키는 I/Q 불균형(I/Q Imbalances)의 영향을 분석하였다. 전체 부반송파를 한 사용자가 모두 사용하는 OFDM 시스템과 달리, OFDMA 시스템에서는 대칭되는 부반송파가 각기 다른 사용자에게 할당 되는 부채널 할당 방법을 사용한다. 그러므로 I/Q 불균형 성분의 추정은 불가능 해지고, 이로 인해 왜곡된 수신 신호를 보상해줄 수 없다. 이러한 I/Q 불균형 문제를 해결하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 대칭되는 부반송파들이 한 사용자에게 할당 될 수 있도록 새로운 부채널 할당 방법을 제안한다. 새로운 부채널 할당방법을 적용하면, I/Q 불균형으로 인한 왜곡 성분의 추정이 가능해지곤 I/Q 불균형이 존재하지 않을 때의 성능과 비슷한 수준가지 보상할 수 있게 된다. 적절한 신호 검출 기법을 사용할 경우, 채널 성분과 결합한 I/Q 불균형 성분으로 인해 다이버시티 이득으로 인한 성능 향상 효과까지 얻을 수 있음을 SER(Symbol Error Rate) 성능을 통해 확인 할 수 있다.
