  • In recent years, LSI devices have become more powerful and lower-priced, caused by a development of various wafer materials and an increase in the diameter of wafers. On the other hand, these have created some serious problems in manufacturing of wafers because materials used as semiconductor substrate are very brittle. In view of this fact, there are some trials to apply shear-mode(or ductile-mode) grinding for efficient manufacturing of semiconductor wafers instead of conventional lapping process. In fact grinding process that has not only more excellent degree of accuracy but also more adaptable to fully automated manufacturing than lapping, is already used in Si machining field. This paper described the elementary studies to establish the grinding technology of wafers. First, we investigated the variation of grinding force and the transition of grinding mode as various grinding conditions. Then, it was inspected that the change of grinding force affected the integrity such as the topography and the roughness of ground surfaces, and led to the chemical defects generation and distribution in damaged layer. The degree of defects was estimated by FT-IR(Fourier Transformed Infrared) Spectroscopy and Auger Electron Spectroscopy

  • In this study, DAQ and TRA modules were applied to the CFRP single specimen testing method using AE. A method for crack identification in CFRP specimens based on k-mean clustering and wavelet transform analysis are presented. Mode I on DCB under vertical loading and mode II on 3-points ENF testing under share loading have been carried out, thereafter k-mean method for clustering AE data and wavelet transition method per amplitude have been applied to investigate characteristics of interfacial fracture in CFRP composite. It was found that the fracture mechanism of Carbon/Epoxy Composite to estimate of different type of fractures such as matrix(epoxy resin) cracking, delamination and fiber breakage same as AE amplitude distribution using a AE frequency analysis. In conclusion, the presented results provide a foundation for using wavelet analysis as efficient crack detection tool. The advantage of using wavelet analysis is that local features in a displacement response signal can be identified with a desired resolution, provided that the response signal to be analyzed picks up the perturbations caused by the presence of the crack.

  • Scanning Thermal Microscope (SThM) is the tool that can map out temperature or the thermal property distribution with the highest spatial resolution. Since the local temperature or the thermal property of samples is measured from the extremely small heat transferred through the nanoscale tip-sample contact, improving the sensitivity of SThM probe has always been the key issue. In this study, we develop a new design and fabrication process of SThM probe to improve the sensitivity. The fabrication process is optimized so that cantilevers and tips are made of thermally grown silicon dioxide, which has the lowest thermal conductivity among the materials used in MEMS. The new design allows much higher tip so that heat transfer through the air gap between the sample-probe is reduced further. The position of a reflector is located as far away as possible to minimize the thermal perturbation due to the laser. These full $SiO_2$ SThM probes have much higher sensitivity than that of previous ones.

  • To build a most efficient and competitive warehouse, need to reflect tenants various opinions in advance such as location, rentable size, leasing terms, rental, configuration of the building, building structure, traffic flow and amenities. Thus a survey for major tenants which are logistics, retailers and manufactures should be done to figure out potential demand and marketing strategy to lead to be a competitive warehouse. However above survey is time consuming work and requires high cost involvement thus to avoid such an inefficient process and to facilitate investors prompt and right decision making, there should be a tool which helps to make a decision process easier with simple key factors. In other word, we have used above mentioned 'Demand Approach' so far but here I am introducing 'Factors Comparison' which reflects location factors and facility factors. I derived Kwang-myung logistics park's proper rental rate through 'Demand Approach' which analyzed Seoul Metropolitan area's rental warehouse status and rents, and also defined a size of potential demand area and rental. And this report compared the result with an outcome of 'Factors Comparison' then compared each methods and drew a conclusion of 'Factors Comparion's better convenience and efficiency.

  • A number of numerical methods like Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) have been developed to predict the flow fields of a vessel but the present study is developed to infer the wake fields on propeller plane by Statistical Fluid Dynamics(SFD) approach which is emerging as a new technique over a wide range of industrial fields nowadays. Neural network is well known as one prospective representative of the SFD tool and is widely applied even in the engineering fields. Further to its stable and effective system structure, generalization of input training patterns into different classification or categorization in training can offer more systematic treatments of input part and more reliable result. Because neural network has an ability to learn the knowledge through the external information, it is not necessary to use logical programming and it can flexibly handle the incomplete information which is not easy to make a definition clear. Three dimensional stern hull forms and nominal wake values from a model test are structured as processing elements of input and output layer respectively and a neural network is trained by the back-propagation method. The inferred results show similar figures to the experimental wake distribution.

  • A PC-computer program RADAP has been developed in this study to perform a quick real-time analysis of dose assessment following an accident in a nuclear facility. RADAP uses an interactive LKagrangian puff model in simulating the transport and diffusion of radioactive plume in the atmosphere. For real-time analysis, RADAP treats one or multiple puffs of ground-level releases, simultaneously. It is assumed to maintain a Gaussian distribution within the puff and the diffusion coefficients are computed using the USNRC's normal sigma curve method. The program, however, does not consider the spatial variations but the temporal variations in wind conditions. Whole body and thyroid doses for 3$\times$31 grid are directed to output files, and they are also displayed through computer graphics on VGA or EGA color monitor. The results show that RADAP can be an excellent tool for quick estimation of accidental doses.

  • A scalar metric for the assessment of hull surface producibility was known to be useful in estimating the complexity of a hull form of ships or large offshore structures by looking at their shape. However, it could not serve as a comprehensive measuring tool due to its lack of important components of the hull form such as longitudinals, stiffeners, and web frames attached to the hull surface. To have a complete metric for cost estimation, these structural members must be included. In this paper, major inner structural members are considered by measuring the complexity of their geometric shape. The final scalar metric thus consists of the classes containing inner members with various curvature magnitudes as well as the classes containing curved plates with single and double curvature distribution. Those two distinct metrics are merged into a complete scalar metric that accounts for the total cost estimation of complex structural bodies.

  • Fractures, especially faults have most significant influence on the difficulties encountered in various engineering and mining works, because they can give rise to inevitable reductions in shear strength as well as large increase in permeability. Thus, before underground access is possible, it is desirable to estimate the distribution and geometry of fractures in advance, if reliable structural data from e.g. Televiewer tool are available. To this end, fracture face mapping is just the evaluation method used to form a fracture image determined by intersecting of each fracture plane with a selected plane section of a rock mass, assuming that all fractures be planar with fixed-aperture. Although many fractures are geometrically complex and others are altered chemically, according to the abundant experiments in recent years, it would seem that the technique could be applied to benefit the design of numerous engineering works such as slope stability, tunnel excavations, dam foundation and diverse environmental works. This paper presents at first an evaluation algorithm for fracture face mapping and then concludes with various representative examples of applications.

  • Simulation studies on catalytic methanation reaction in externally cooled tubular reactor filled with monolithic catalysts were carried out using a general purpose modelling tool $gPROMS^{(R)}$. We investigated the effects of operating parameters such as gas space velocity, temperature and pressure of feeding gas on temperature distribution inside the reactor, overall CO conversion, and chemical composition of product gas. In general, performance of methanation reaction is favored under low temperature and high pressure for a wide range of their values. However, methane production becomes negligible at temperatures below 573K when the reactor temperature is not high enough to ignite methanation reaction. Capacity enhancement of the reactor by increasing gas space velocity and/or gas inlet pressure resulted no significant reduction in reactor performance and heat transfer property of catalyst.

  • The characteristics for the aerosol number distribution was studied during spring, 2004 in Incheon. Optical Particle Counter (OPC, HIAC/ROYCO 5230) was used in order to measure the number concentration of aerosol in the range of $0.3\~25{\mu}m.$. The obtained results were compared with $PM_{2.5}\;and\;PM_{10}$ data during Asian dust events. The results show that the size resolved aerosol number concentration from OPC measurement has a similar tendency with $PM_{10}\;and\;PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration. During Asian dust periods, the number concentrations in large particle $(CH5\~CH8)$ increase more than small particles which diameter is less than $2.23{\mu}m(CH5)$ and the same results were shown when $PM_{10}$ was compared with $PM_{2.5}$ data compared with non-dust days, Consequently, this study shows that size resolved aerosol number concentration from OPC measurement can be used as a useful tool in comparison of mass concentration data.
