  • We have developed the testing software for KEPCO operators to maintain the small-scale distribution automation system effectively. The testing software is used to monitor the present status, to measure the analog value(voltage, amperage) and to control the switch and FRTU(Feeder Remote Terminal Unit) in order to find out a disabled part of the system. And at the stage of inspection of the switch and FRTU, it can screen the inferior one.

  • KEPCO is faced with a number of network choice for Distribution Automation System(DAS), such as Power Line, Pair. Coaxial and Optical Cable, etc. The increasing use of DAS requires suitable communication networks. KEPCO has exhausted much efforts to implement its own standard DAS in possible early date. This paper presents the DAS in KEPCO and some of initial design efforts toward KEPCO's DAS at KEPRI.

  • Electric utility companies have the responsibility of providing good electricity for their customers. They have introduced the DAS(Distribution Automation System) to automate the power distribution networks. DAS engineers require state-of-the-art applications, such as a way to actively manage the distribution system and gain economic benefits from a flexible DAS architectural design. The existing DAS is not capable of handling these needs. It requires operator intervention whenever feeder overloading is detected while operator error could cause the feeder overload area to be extended. It also utilizes a closed architecture and it is therefore difficult to meet the system migration and future enhancement requirements. This paper represents a web based, platform-independent, flexible DAS architectural design and active database application. Recent advanced Internet technologies are fully utilized in this new DAS architecture allowing it to meet the system migration and future enhancement requirements. By using an active database, the DAS can minimize the feeder overloading area in the distribution system without operator intervention, thereby minimizing mistakes due to operator error.

  • A communication system through distribution lines was developed for distribution automation. Since all facilities in distrbution systems are connected by distribution lines, economical communication systems can be realized by using these lines as data transmission lines. But it has a problem in transmission reliability bcause of its sensitivity to noise and impeadance. Therefore, to cope with this problem. measurement and analysis of the communication characteristics are made according to the influence of load impeadence change, signal level and noise generated in load. Field tests were carried out at Kyung Ki branch of the KEPCO for half year starting in Feburary 1988.

  • A Distribution Automation System (DAS) is operated by monitoring and control of the field statesusing Feeder Remote Terminal Units (FRTUs) installed together withautomatic switches. An optimal placement of automatic switchescan enhanceefficiencyof the operation and restoration, and improve the power supply reliability ofa DAS.This paper proposes an algorithm to decide the optimal placement of automatic switches ina DAS.The proposed algorithm was developed ona DAS witha six sections and three links configuration. The proposed algorithm was provided inaneight-feeder power distribution system.

  • The necessity of Power Quality(PQ) Management grow bigger because the disturbance strength in power system is increasing, on the other hand, the tolerance of electrical components is reducing with widely use of the IT and digital equipments. The domestic management standards on power quality are enacted based on the IEC standards in recent. Since the IEC standards defines the measurement and evaluation point on PQ as PCC(Point of Common Coupling) which is normally the point of penetration between customer and power company, the PQ monitoring system(PQMS) should be made to measure and manage the PQ of custom effectively. In this paper, therefore, the economical construction plan on PQMS using the wireless communication channel in distribution automation system is suggested, and the usefulness of the PQMS are shown by analyzing the PQM data with IEC standards.

  • The load distribution problem of two cooperating robots grasping one object is studied. The optimal joint torque needed for the desired motion is obtained by using a new objective function. A new objective function is defined for the minimization of joint torque effort and internal force. The optimal solution can be found by geometrical approach and analysis using the concept of force ellipsoid. Simulation results are presented with 6DOF PUMA robots.

  • We generally use Yes-No algorithms for feeder automation algorithm. This logic determines the faulty section by fault current detection information of the fault indicators of each switches in distribution feeder. This paper presents the data acquisition method such as breaker's open status in fault and the determination method of faulty section using fault indicator's information of each switches.
