  • The multicast routing architectures have become indispensable due to the increasing needs for extreme communication services anywhere and anytime. The most recent approaches are called hierarchical and fully distributed, what have been proposed by O. Said et al. in a previous work. These proposed architectures were introduced to enhance the service-centric approach. In this paper, NS2 is used to build a simulation environment to test the hierarchical and the fully distributed multicast architectures as regards the service-centric one. The results of simulation show that the performance of the hierarchical and the fully distributed architectures outperforms the service-centric architecture. Furthermore, the fully distributed architecture is found to have the best performance.

  • In this paper, we evaluate feasibility of an object-oriented method in a distributed real-time control environment through the prediction of delay expected. We adopt CAN as the distributed network and the application layer of the CAN is composed of client/server communication model of COM and surroundings for the support of real-time capability of the COM. Mathematical models formalizing delays which are predicted to invoke in the COM architecture are proposed. Sensors and actuators which are widely used in distributed network-based systems are represented by COM objects in this paper. It is expected that the mathematical models can be used to protect distributed network-based systems from violation of real-time features by the COM.

  • In this paper, we propose an election protocol based on mobile ad-hoc network. In distributed systems, a group of computer should continue to do cooperation in order to finish some jobs. In such a system, an election protocol is especially practical and important elements to provide processes in a group with a consistent common knowledge about the membership of the group. Whenever a membership change occurs, processes should agree on which of them should do to accomplish an unfinished job or begins a new job. The problem of electing a leader is very same with the agreeing common predicate in a distributed system such as the consensus problem. Based on the termination detection protocol that is traditional one in asynchronous distributed systems, we present the new election protocol in distributed systems that are based on MANET, i.e. mobile ad hoc network.

  • Emergent requests or urgent information among enterprises require their intimate collaboration in B2B EC (electronic commerce). This paper analyzes the needs of intimate cooperation of distributed EC systems in terms of business contracts and presents an active rule-based methodology of close cooperation among EC systems and an active rule component to support it. Since the rule component provides high level rule patterns and event-based immediate processing, system administrators and programmers can easily program and maintain intimate cooperation of distributed EC systems independently to the application logic. The proposed active rule component facilitates HTTP protocol. Its prototype is implemented in B2B EC environment and evaluated using basic trigger facility of a commercial DBMS.

  • Web-based simulation is one of the most interesting field of simulation research today. Among many research area of web-based simulation, we concern about what a effective way of building simulation model is since creating comprehensive simulation models can be expensive and time consuming. So this paper discusses how to integrate distributed simulation sub-models as objects for constructing the required simulation model which is more large and complex. We introduce two web-oriented methodologies (such as JIDL, CORBA) and the concepts of agent for assisting modelers to integrate simulation models scattered over the web. SINDBAD, which we designed, is a simulation environment which makes it possible constructing a simulation model with distributed model objects on the web and performing the parallel simulation in a distributed way. It is organized according to design patterns in the object oriented concept. Actually we are on the premise that all the distributed objects are originally composed in a CORBA-compatible way to start with our prototype of SINDBAD.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for judging cultivation suitability by analyzing the growing environment of Zanthoxylum schinifolium habitats in Gyeongnam-do. The site environment, soil environment and community structure were analyzed in habitats of 7 cities and counties. The habitats were distributed in slopes at 87~764 m above sea level. It was found habitats was distributed in the well-drained soil with high content of sand and soil texture of habitats was mainly loamy sand and sandy loam. Bulk density and particle density were 0.89 g/cm3 and 2.65 g/cm3 on average, respectively. The soil had 5.10 of pH, 6.41% of OM content, 0.29% of TN content, 3.84 ppm of available P content, and CEC of 12.3 cmol+/kg on average. The habitats were classified into four communities (Z. schinifolium-Lindera erythrocarpa, Castanea crenata-L. erythrocarpa, Pinus densiflora-Z. schinifolium, P. thunbergii-Z. schinifolium by clustering analysis. Ecological niche breadth was highest of 0.885 in site (T VI ongyeong) and lowest of 0.608 in site (Goseong).

  • An intelligent distributed multi-agent system (IDMS) using reinforcement learning (RL) is a challenging and intricate problem in which single or multiple agent(s) aim to achieve their specific goals (sub-goal and final goal), where they move their states in a complex and cluttered environment. The environment provided by the IDMS provides a cumulative optimal reward for each action based on the policy of the learning process. Most actions involve interacting with a given IDMS environment; therefore, it can provide the following elements: a starting agent state, multiple obstacles, agent goals, and a cluttered index. The reward in the environment is also reflected by RL-based agents, in which agents can move randomly or intelligently to reach their respective goals, to improve the agent learning performance. We extend different cases of intelligent multi-agent systems from our previous works: (a) a proposed environment-clutter-based-index for agent sub-goal selection and analysis of its effect, and (b) a newly proposed RL reward scheme based on the environmental clutter-index to identify and analyze the prerequisites and conditions for improving the overall system.

  • Smart Factory is an intelligent factory that can enhance productivity, quality, customer satisfaction, etc. by applying information and communications technology to the entire production process including design & development, manufacture, and distribution & logistics. The precise amount of data generated in a smart factory varies depending on the factory's size and state of facilities. Regardless, it would be difficult to apply traditional production management systems to a smart factory environment, as it generates vast amounts of data. For this reason, the need for a distributed big-data processing system has risen, which can process a large amount of data. Therefore, this article has designed a Gluster File System (GlusterFS)-based distributed big-data processing system that can be used in a smart factory environment. Compared to existing distributed processing systems, the proposed distributed big-data processing system reduces the system load and the risk of data loss through the distribution and management of network traffic.

  • According to the evolving of IT technologies, the amount of data we are facing increasing exponentially. Thus, the technique for managing and analyzing these vast data that has emerged is a distributed processing system of big data. A quality evaluation for the existing distributed processing systems has been proceeded by the structured data environment. Thus, if we apply this to the evaluation of distributed processing systems of big data which has to focus on the analysis of the unstructured data, a precise quality assessment cannot be made. Therefore, a study of the quality evaluation model for the distributed processing systems is needed, which considers the environment of the analysis of big data. In this paper, we propose a new quality evaluation model by deriving the quality evaluation elements based on the ISO/IEC9126 which is the international standard on software quality, and defining metrics for validating the elements.

  • The current trends in information technology and intelligent systems use data mining techniques to discover patterns and extract rules from distributed databases. In distributed environment, the extracted rules from data mining techniques can be used in dynamic replications, adaptive load balancing and other schemes. However, transmission of large data through the system can cause errors and unreliable results. This paper proposes the intelligent distributed platform based on dynamic group binding using mobile agents which addresses the use of intelligence in distributed environment. The proposed grouping service implements classification scheme of objects. Data compressor agent and data miner agent extracts rules and compresses data, respectively, from the service node databases. The proposed algorithm performs preprocessing where it merges the less frequent dataset using neuro-fuzzy classifier before sending the data. Object group classification, data mining the service node database, data compression method, and rule extraction were simulated. Result of experiments in efficient data compression and reliable rule extraction shows that the proposed algorithm has better performance compared to other methods.
