As many sensors and actuators are used in various automated systems, the application of network to real-time distributed control system is gaining acceptance in many industries. In order to take advantages of networking, however, the network should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time distributed control. This paper presents an implementation method of closed-loop control using Profibus-FMS. In order to implement a closed-loop control system, we used industrial computers with Profibus-FMS network cards and a DC servo motor. Through various experiments, the step response of the control system with network was compared with the reference response without network.
This paper proposes a distributed simulator for general control system in CEMTool. Systems can be described by SIMTool likes the simulink in Matlab. For distributed simulation, we can seperate any system into several parallel subsystems in SIMTool. The number of parallel subsystem can be determined by the system's property. After seperation, parallel simulator will do initialization, one-step-ahead simulation, block-distribution and ordering and so on. Finally, simulator will create independent C codes and executive files for each subsystem. The whole system is fulfilled by several PCs, and each PC executes one subsystem. There are communications among these subsystem using reflective memory or ethernet. We have made several experiments, and the 5-stand cold rolling mill control system is our main target. The result of parallel simulation has shown effective speedup in comparison with one pc simulation.
Due to the introduction of the electronic control systems, agricultural machine is getting complicated with its special function. The complex electronics system increases difficulty of maintenances in the wiring harness system. The heavy wiring harness has some poor reliability and workability in the production line of manufacture also. So, in this study, some small local control modules are developed to complement the difficulties with the benefits of distributed control system. All of the local control modules are connected by using CAN communication. This system developed this study has the advantages of modification or alteration of wiring and local modules. All the sensors and actuators can be easily monitored and controlled by the main controller with the appropriate communication protocol made by in this study.

In order to design mutual communication between a distributed control system and a function test facility, we used the Inter-Process Communication(IPC) in two systems and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) protocol. The data from the function test facility are put in the shared memory using an IPC, which is then accessed by the distributed control system through an Application Program Interface(API). The server in the function test facility includes two processes(one for sending and one for receiving), which are generated by the fork function from the client signal. The client in the distributed control system includes two separate programs(one for receiving and one for sending).
Unmanned autonomous forklifts have a great potential to enhance the productivity of material handling in various applications because these forklifts can pick up and deliver loads without an operator and any fixed guide. There are, however, many technical difficulties in developing such forklifts including localization, map building, sensor fusion, control and so on. Implementation, which is often neglected, is one of practical issues in developing such an autonomous device. This is because the system requires numerous sensors, actuators, and controllers that need to be connected with each other, and the number of connections grows very rapidly as the number of devices grows. Another requirement on the integration is that the system should allow changes in the system design so that modification and addition of system components can be accommodated without too much effort. This paper presents a network-based distributed approach where system components are connected to a shared CAN network, and control functions are divided into small tasks that are distributed over a number of microcontrollers with a limited computing capacity. This approach is successfully applied to develop an unmanned forklift.
In this paper, we propose a PC based distributed controller for a two axis convey table using real-time micro-kernel. PC, Windows program, gives an easy way to implement wealthy GUI and micro-kernel, ${\mu}$C/OS-II, provides a real-time capability to control devices. We built a real-time distributed control system using ${\mu}$C/OS-II kernel which needs to process the tasks for two motors within the desired time to synchronize the motion. We used both semaphore and message mail box for synchronization. Unlike the previous study where we used step motors for the actuator of two axes convey table, we rebuilt the convey table with DC motors and the dedicated position servo which had built in out lab, and then we implemented a realtime distributed control system by putting the micro-kernel into between PC and position servo. Moreover we developed the PC based graphic user interfaces for generating planar drawing image control. Experimental results also presented to show the Proposed control system is useful.
A Problem of relevant interest to some industries is that of obtaining optimum two-dimensional layout. To solve this provlem, one is given a number of rectangular sheets and an order for a specified number of each of certain types of two-dimensional regular and irregular shapes. The aim is to cut the the shapes out of the sheets in such a way as to minimize the amount of waste produced. A DCS (Distributed Control System) is an integrated system which applies the decentralization concept to a control system handling both sequential and analog control. A DCS performs many operations such as data gathering, data processing, data storing and monitoring the operatin conditions for the operator. IN this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm based on rotation parameters from which the best pattern of layout is found as well as a layout method for better performance time. A DCS for the plate cutting process system, which is performed by a virtual system, is also identified.
Presented in this paper is a control model for developing virtual factory simulator, which is being operated under the distributed environment. The control model consists of production activity plan and information flows. To incorporate elements of the characteristics of the distributed control system, we suggested a collaboration model. This model is working under the client/server architecture, and also designed for cooperative-distributed shop control(CDSC) system in order to exploit several advantages of client/server architecture. Collaboration among each agent(or client) is done through negotiation and task sharing. Based on a contract net model, the CDSC system has three kinds of agents-order agent, resource agent, and communication forwarding agent. Each agent performs shop scheduling and control through negotiation on contract net. No node in CDSC system can have authority over other node. A bidding scheme is employed far negotiation between order agent and resource agents. The CDSC system can support re-negotiation among resource agents and an algorithm for re-negotiation is also developed. Experimental results are shown to advocate the effectiveness of the CDSC system for CIM environments.
This paper deals with the real-time message network system by a CAN (controller area network) based on the real-time distributed control scheme to integrate actuators and sensors in a humanoid robot. In order to apply the real-time distributed processing for a humanoid robot, each control unit should have the real-time efficient control method, fast sensing method, fast calculation and real-time valid data exchange method. Moreover, the data from sensors and encoders must be transmitted to the higher level of control units in maximum time limit. This paper describes the real-time message network system design and the performance of the system.
