  • Since customer's demand is various and product life cycle is getting shorter, many manufacturing company is trying to reduce product development time and cost. For that reason they make an effort to design product on collaborative environment. The various activities in a product development are highly distributed. This distributed nature of the activities implies that teams will be working indifferent place and technical environments. Thus at a given time, teams might work on he same product from different perspectives. This will require efficient communication amongst the various individuals and the various softwaretools that are used by them. Therefore, there is a need for a computerized frame work that can support distributed design such that participants from different backgrounds collaborate towards one common goal. This paper presents the architecture of a collaborative design system. It then reports on the study of computerized frame work focused on collaboration for product development.

Cultural Issues in Offshore Teams: A Categorization based on Existing Studies

  • Cultural and personal issues resulting from dispersed teams are considered to be serious barriers to form trust and organize effective agile teams. However, apart from separate, reported evidence of such issues from work experience, there has been no theoretical classification in literature. This paper provides a list and analysis of common challenges mainly resulting from cultural differences and barriers in Agile Software Development (ASD) offshore teams. The data source comprise articles published in IEEE, mostly of conferences related to ASD. Among the articles, papers with concrete evidence of Agile Methods (AM) implementation were selected. The results show that despite the relative significance of such issues, ASD adopters typically still rely on their own experience, and creativity rather than using well-defined methods. Moreover, this study reveals that the notion of trust, as discussed in the literature, mainly refers to maintaining the pace of communication, which is the focal point in ASD.

  • Many R&D organizations have interests on knowledge management system(KMS) to organize and utilize their knowledge resources. Currently, for research collaboration and knowledge management R&D organizations use either a specialized knowledge management system or a set of general application systems such as basic messaging system and document management system. The objectives of this paper are to identify important functionalities of knowledge management systems based on team characteristics and knowledge process of research teams in research organizations and to provide implications to design and implement knowledge management system for R&D teams. Survey results show that research teams perceive communication, collaboration and connection functionalities are important when their team sizes are large or they are distributed. During knowledge capture process, they need personalization of knowledge to reduce information overload.

  • This paper focuses on the study of simulation and evolution of Micro Air Vehicles. Micro Air Vehicles or MAVs are small flying robots that are used for surveillance, search and rescue, and other missions. The simulated robots are designed based on realistic characteristics and the brains (controllers) of the robots are generated using genetic algorithms, i .e., simulated evolution. The objective for the experiments is to investigate the effects of robot team size and topology (simulation environment) on the evolution of simulated robots. The testing of team sizes deals with finding an ideal number of robots to be deployed for a given mission. The goal of the topology experiments is to see if there is an ideal topology (environment) to evolve the robots in order to increase their utility in most environments. We compare the results of the various experiments by evaluating the fitness values of the robots i .e., performance measure. In addition, evolved robot teams are tested in different situation in order to determine if the results can be generalized, and statistical analysis is performed to evaluate the evolved results.

Jini 기반의 인터페이스 공유 서비스 (An Interface Sharing Service based on Jini)

  • 자바 기반의 분산객체 시스템을 개발 혹은 사용할 때, 시스템 개발자는 사전에 정의된 인터페이스를 구현한 분산객체를 네트워크상에 배치(deploy)해야 하고, 시스템 사용자는 분산객체에 대한 참조(reference)를 획득하고 인터페이스 타입으로 변환한다 이러한 작업을 위해서 인터페이스의 공유는 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 Jini 시스템 개발 시 정보 공유의 불편함을 해결하고자 IRSJ(interface repository service based on jim)를 제안한다. IRSJ는 Jini 시스템과 인터페이스 공유 서비스를 위한 자바 클래스들로 구성된다. IRSJ는 근거리에서 작업할 때 검색(lookup) 서버나 작성자의 정보 없이도 인터페이스 파일을 검색할 수 있다. 원거리에서 개발 팀들이 공동 작업을 수행한다면 검색(lookup) 서비스가 실행되고 있는 서버의 주소만으로도 인터페이스 검색이 가능하다 검색에 실패한 인터페이스 객체는 원격 이벤트 모델 을 사용하여 더 이상의 검색 요청을 하지 않아도 인터페이스를 다운로드 받아 사용할 수 있게 하였다. 메시지 서비스는 인터페이스 검색에 실패하면 IRSJ를 사용하는 개발팀원 모두에게 자동적으로 인터페이스요청 메시지를 전송하여 빠른 시간 안에 인터페이스 공유가 가능하도록 설계되었다.

SOAP 를 이용한 웹기반의 제품개발시스템 (Web-based Product Development System Using SOAP)

  • Better understanding and sharing information are getting important to manage interdisciplinary product development team in a globally-distributed company. This study proposes a solution to implement RPD(Rapid Product Development) system for the distributed development teams using SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol). And a new approach is introduced for the better understanding of product geometry among the development members in different place and the easy sharing of product information. An application example shows that SOAP operates in distributed environment more efficiently than other RPC(Remote Procedure Call) techniques and it does not respond sensitively to firewall. And SOAP is an excellent RPC and messaging technique to exchange structured data. Procedures developed with use of SOAP are worked together with web, and users can use remote services as an application program in their local computer.

  • It is becoming increasing1y the norm for project teams to be composed of individuals who are geographically distributed but connected by high speed network. In such environments a lot of work related documents are created, so there is real needs for the system that facilitate the effective sharing, maintaining. managing of them. This paper present the system that satisfy this needs, which is known as IDOMA(Intelligent Documents management system based on Multi Agent). IDOMA is the cooperative multi agent based documents management system which has not centralized database.

엔지니어링 CALS를 위한 컴퓨터 지원 시스템 (Computer Supports for Engineering CALS)

  • As todays manufacturers and business organizations are struggling to compete in the global marketplace, they are concentrating on the efficient use of numerous information on design, development production, testing, distribution, and maintenance of products throughout their whole life cycles. To meet these organizations demands on information integration, the CALS has been recently focused as a dominant philosophy. In this paper, we introduce the computer supports for engineering CALS in which the engineering process at an initial phase of product development is simultaneously and collaboratively peformed. The proposed system supports the following functions: a virtual prototyping, a distributed collaborative design, and engineering information management. We have conformed to CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) standard to support interoperability between distributed objects and have used JAVA to support cross-platform and distributed user access to the system on the Web. Under this system, multidisciplinary design teams in engineering CALS environment can collaboratively perform their tasks, share design information and communicate with each other on the Web.

워게임 시뮬레이션 환경에 맞는 빅데이터 분석을 위한 분산처리기술 (Distributed Data Processing for Bigdata Analysis in War Game Simulation Environment)

  • 4차 산업혁명의 기술 등장 이후 대규모 데이터 시대에서 새로운 가치 창출을 위한 데이터 정보 분석은 다양한 분야에서 시도되고 있다. 대용량 데이터를 빠르게 처리하는데 있어서 분산 데이터 처리는 이미 필수적이다. 하지만 아직 국방 분야에서 운용하고 있는 시뮬레이션들은 쌓여 있는 비정형 데이터를 활용할 수 있는 시스템이 미비하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 훈련간 발생하는 문제에 대응하기 위한 지휘결심에 가시화된 데이터를 제공하기 위해서 대대급 규모의 시뮬레이션 모델에 적용 가능한 분산 처리 플랫폼을 제안한다. 전략게임 데이터 50만개를 분석하는 과정으로, 데이터가 가지고 있는 여러 요인들 중 승리요인에 영향을 미치는 요소들을 분석할 수 있게 구현하였다. 결과적으로 상위 10%에 있는 팀들의 데이터를 분석하는 과정에서의 분산처리 사용한 결과를 측정 및 비교 하였다.
