Abstract Recently, due to the rapid development of network technology, the need for the network management appeared. So two representative standardards, SNMP and CMIP, have been applied to many network management system. But the more complex and vaious network are constructed, the demand for more efficient network management technology grew bigger. Currently, TMN technology is beginning to be widely applied to the management of networks. CORBA has been widely adopted for developing distributed systems in many areas of information technology. CORBA provides the infrastructure for the interoperability of various object-oriented management applications in a distributed environment, and, recently there have been world-wide research for the integration of CORBA within a TMN framework. Many attempts have been made to enable network management using CORBA techonology and some are working on already. This paper defines the architecture for integrated network management based on current CORBA/TMN integration technologies and then presents the design and implementation for alarm surveillance system which was applied to the defined architecture. The prototype implementation was done using IONA orbix. The proposed integrated network management framework will provide users with consistent management operations and ability to manage complex and various networks and to gather statistical data from those networks.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the components of SME's information infrastructure through literature review, empirically investigate the components, and develop a model for SME's information infrastructure. The fact that SME's are having difficulties in building their own information infrastructure due to the limitation of capital investment, technology, and manpower is the main motive for the study The survey questionnaires were distributed to CEO's and users of 3W SME's and intensive interviews were cornea out to CIO's and information services personnel to further investigate H/W and S/W components of Information Infrastructure. The study results show that there seems to be five main factors for SME's information infrastructure. They are: (1) Informatization Capacity, (2) Software and Network, (3) Management Recognition and Utilization, (4) Hardware, and (5) Alignment between Users and Information Services.

  • Tolerance design has been identified as an important research area and a number of models have been proposed in the literature. This paper investigates the effect of limited capacity on tolerance design for products with nominal-the-best type (N-type) quality characteristics. The model is developed under the assumption that the reprocessed and nonreprocessed items are produced by the same manufacturing process and therefore their quality characteristics are identically and independently distributed. Profit models are constructed which involve four price/cost components; selling price, cost incurred by imperfect quality, reprocessing and quality inspection costs. Methods of finding the optimal tolerance limits are presented, and a numerical example is given. Sensitivity analyses are also performed to study the effect of a process standard deviation on this model.

  • In order to quickly respond to the rapidly changing manufacturing environment, it is imperative for the system to have such capabilities as flexibility, adaptability, reusability, etc. One of the promising approaches for new manufacturing paradigm satisfying those capabilities is the fractal manufacturing system (FrMS). FrMS is based on the concept of autonomously cooperating and self-reconfigurable agents referred to as fractals. In this paper, a fractal template is proposed to have both fractal-specific and agent-specific characteristics and proper techniques for implementation are also selected. The proposed template can be easily extended to the platform of FrMS which supports simulation, shop flow control, and other research issues existed in the manufacturing systems. An example of applying the proposed template to the simulation is also presented.

  • We deal with a design problem of assembly/disassembly (AD) systems with finite buffer capacities where the times between failures, the times to repair, and the processing times are exponentially distributed with different parameter values. We present a solution procedure for finding the minimum cost configuration which achieves a desired throughput rate for an AD system. The configuration is defined by the types of machines to be used and capacities of buffers in the AD system. Results of computational experiments on randomly generated test problems show that the proposed heuristics give relatively good configurations in a reasonable amount of time.

  • This paper discusses the potential of system dynamics modelling to support balanced scorecard. The balanced scorecard is a conceptual framework for translating an organisation's strategy into a set of performance indicators. These performance indicators are distributed across the 'classic'model's four perspective: Customers, Internal Business Processes, Financial, and Learning and Growth. This balanced scorecard, whilst having significant strength, suffers from the limitation of all performance indicator systems, namely that the interrelationships between indicators are overlooked and there is no way of taking into account the impact of delayed feedback which flows from introduction of new policy and legislative changes. System Dynamics is a methodology for understanding complex problems where there is dynamic behaviour and where feedback impacts significantly on system outcomes. System dynamics provides a rigorous basis for qualitative testing of the effects of performance indicators in complex environments such as health or social security. This can be supplemented with quantitative system dynamics simulation tools that further test the validity of indicators and the business rules implicit in them. System dynamics modelling has an important role to play in extending feedback cycle in performance measurements to a full systems approach.

  • Intranet emerges as a key technology for building enterprise information system. This paper proposes a scenario-based object- oriented technique for designing intranet hypermedia information systems. The method consists of six phases such as domain analysis, object modeling, view design, navigational design, implementation design and construction. Users requirements are analyzed in the form of scenarios by the use fo a responsibility-driven object technology. Object-oriented views are generated from the resulting object model and then used for the subsequent navigational and implementation design. Implementation design phase deals integrating enterprise databases with distributed hypermedia systems by employing Java language. To demonstrate its usefulness, a real-life bank case is illustrated.

  • We propose, a new process capability index $C_{psk}$(WV) applying the weighted variance control charting method for non-normally distributed. The main idea of the weighted variance method(WVM) is to divide a skewed or asymmetric distribution into two normal distributions from its mean to create two new distributions which have the same mean but different standard deviations. In this paper we propose an example, a distributions generated from the Johnson family of distributions, to demonstrate how the weighted variance-based process capability indices perform in comparison with another two non-normal methods, namely the Clements and the Wright methods. This example shows that the weighted valiance-based indices are more consistent than the other two methods in terms of sensitivity to departure to the process mean/median from the target value for non-normal processes. Second method show using the percentage nonconforming by the Pearson, Johnson and Burr systems. This example shows a little difference between the Pearson system and Burr system, but Johnson system underestimated than the two systems for process capability.

  • IT and e-business is a hot issue of the world business and economic communities. The web site is the portal through which most of electronic transactions are conducted today. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate on factors influencing the web site development at the firms in Korea. Survey questionnaires were distributed via email & post to 281 firms that have implemented web site. Out of 44 responded questionnaires, 39 data sets were available for statistical analysis with SPPSSWin 10.1. Factor analysis identified five dimensions of web site development : (1) support of top management, (2) information technologies maturity, (3) strategic utilization of web site, (4) strength of rivalry among competing firm, (5) support policy of the government. Results of this study show that information technologies maturity and strategic utilization of web site positively influence on web site development. But support of top management, strength of rivalry among competing firm and support policy of the government don't influence on web site development. This study may provide a guideline to improve the quality of web site development.

  • This paper considers the problem of determining the optimal process mean and screening specification limits of a surrogate variable associated with product quality under two-stage screening procedure. In two-stage screening, the surrogate variable is inspected first to decide whether an item should be accepted, rejected or additional observations should be taken. If additional observations are required, the performance variable of interest is then observed to classify the undecided items. Assuming that the performance variable and the surrogate variable are jointly normally distributed, the optimal process mean and the screening limits are obtained by maximizing the expected profit which includes selling price, production, reprocessing, inspection and penalty costs. A numerical example is presented and numerical studies are performed to compare the proposed two-stage screening procedure with single-stage screening procedures.
