  • The CALS integrated database is a key information technology in which CALS implements an information sharing system to enable digital data transfers for technical and non-technical information in distributed and heterogeneous environments. Such heterogeneously distributed CALS information needs to be systematically incorporated so that it can provide a global data view for CALS users. In this paper, we investigated the technologies of CALS integrated database, and proposed a system prototype to implement an integrated data environment (IDE) utilizing distributed object environments CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture).

  • An international standard for the product model data, STEP, and a standard for the distributed object technology, CORBA, will play a very important role in the future manufacturing environment. These two technologies provide background for the sharing of product data and the integration of applications on the network. This paper describes a prototype CAD/CAE environment that is integrated on the network by STEP and CORBA. Several application servers and client software were developed to verify the proposed concept. The present CAD/CAE environments are composed of several individual software components which are not tightly integrated. They also do not utilize the rapidly expanding network and object technologies for the collaboration in the product design process. In the design process in a large organization, sharing of application resources, design data and analysis data through the network will greatly enhance the productivity. The integration between applications can be supported by two key technologies, CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and STEP(Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Bata). The CORBA provides interoperability between applications on different machines in heterogeneous distributed environments and seamlessly interconnects distributed object systems. Moreover, if all the data in the CAD/CAE environment are based on the STEP, then we can exclude all the data conversion problems between the application systems.

  • Internet users been rapidly increased due to the convenient GUI environment. Current Web-based HTTP/CGI client/server architecture has several problems such as the CGI bottleneck, no maintaince of state, and no load balancing. However, with Java and CORBA technologies called“Object Web technology”, we can solve them because Java is not only a mobile code but also a platform-independent code, and CORBA has ability to build distributed object and language-independent object model. The goal of “Object Web technology”is to create multivendor, multiOS, multilanguage“legoware”using objects. This paper implement“Book Search System”which is Web-based client/server architecture using distributed objects. Environments of this implementation are Hangul Windows NT(included IIS) server, Hangul Windows 95 client, Visigenic's VisiBroker for Java 1.2 which is a product of CORBA 2.0, HTTP protocol on TCP-IP-based, Sybase SQL Anywhere 5.0 database server, and the interface between application server and database is JDBC-ODBC bridge middleware.

  • Effective use of agricultural informations is crucial for 21 century farming. An interactive agricultural machinery information system was developed. It consisted of databases, knowledge bases, expert systems, a server engine, clients for a multimedia agricultural machinery information system based on Java and distributed objects technology. It is supposed to be served through a nationwide super information communication network for my farmers to utilize it interactively and quickly. Several user-friendly interface programs for users were developed to use texts, static k dynamic images, and expert systems easily. Tools for providing the informations were built with JAVA. Information providers permitted to access to the system such as agricultural machinery companies can easily add or modify the informations using distributed object technology. This system can interact among three groups : prime information provider (or system manager), permitted information providers, and farmers.

  • Today’s information technology departments face a dilemma to create a competitive advantage for the organization by developing. deploying, and managing distributed applications that scale across the LAN, WAN, and Internet, while preserving investments in systems. Applications, information. IT organizations are today being asked to build the future, without breaking systems that maintain the current business. A possible answer to this dilemma is the implementation of a multi-tier distributed computing architecture. Multi-tier architecture has the potential to provide better, more timely information across the enterprise at a lower cost than the current combination of PC LAN, two-tier client/server, or mainframe applications that have been developed in most organizations. In this paper, we implement management information system based on distributed object middleware using multi-tier distributed computing architecture. This system uses Microsoft's implementation of DCOM/ActiveX and provides easily accessible web interface to the system users.

  • The typical characteristic of PDM(Product Data Management) System seperates the databases to store the meta data and applications. Therefore, meta data contains the information for the location of file, user profiles, relationships between the files, and process. PDM utilizes these information efficiently and does file management, configuration management, and process management. In this view, the integration strategy of PDM is to merge data and process. In the view of architecture, the interface between data and application and the actions of each application execute seamlessly. This architecture is viewed as integrated data and process among enterprises and implemented with client/server technology in distributed process environment that interfaced with open object-oriented technology which is developed with business object in the object-oriented infrastructure. In this paper, we studied the definition, function, and scope of PDM and researched the core technologies to implement the PDM integration environment. We also researched the PDM utilization in distributed enterprise environment and implementation of PDM integration environment with this technical background.

  • Web GIS (Geographic Information Systems) service systems provide the various GIS services of analyzing and displaying the spatial data with friendly user-interface. These services are expanding the business domain and many users want to access the distributed various spatial data. But, it is difficult to access diverse data sources because of different spatial data format and data access methods. In this paper, we design and implement web GIS services based on the inter-operability and GML (Geography Markup Language) of OGC(Open GIS Consortium) in web distributed environment. Inter-operability provides unique accessing method to distributed data sources based on OLE DB technology of Microsoft. In addition, GML support web GIS services based on XML. We design these GIS services as components using UML (Unified Modeling Language) of an object-oriented modeling language for specifying, visualizing, constructing, and documenting the artifacts of software system. In addition, they also were developed in object-oriented computing environment, and it provides the interoperability, language-independent, easy developing environment as well as re-usability.

  • With rapid progresses in information technologies, managing enterprise network resources as a whole becomes more important. Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) has been used to integrate network elements. TMN is complex to develop and manage because it has a centralized management service. Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) can overcome this complexity by the use of transparent distributed object processing mechanism. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to integrate TMN service with CORBA. A network management repository is built for this integration. In addition, a prototype that can partially support network management service is implemented to illustrate the usefulness of this repository.

  • 네트워크 및 분산 처리 기술의 발달로 분산 환경에서 동작하는 응용 프로그램에 대한 생산성 향상이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 MVC(Model, View, Controller) 패턴을 기반으로 하는 분산 응용 프로그램의 생산성 향상을 위해, 조립식 분산 응용의 작성을 지원하는 분산 객체 조립기, DOC(Distributed Object Composer)를 소개한다. Abstract Due to the availability of advances in network and distributed processing technologies, the enhanced productivity of application software that runs on distributed environment is demanded. In this paper, we introduce the Distributed Object Composer (DOC) that supports the structural composition of distributed applications for the enhanced productivity of MVC (Model, View, Controller) pattern-based application programs. The structural interface of DOC that is the basis for the composibility of distributed objects increases the reusability of software components and provides better software productivity and extendibility than the procedural interface of the traditional object-oriented technology by supporting rapid constructions of distributed applications. In this paper, we also discuss the real-time information processing and composibility features of DOC by applying the DOC mechanism to the Supply Chain Management (SCM) application.DOC is implemented using the CORBA middleware that supports the network transparency between client and server objects on heterogeneous communication environments. We apply the distributed Observer/Observable pattern that extends the Observer/Obseverable of Java to DOC itself and distributed client/server objects as their interface definitions for the automatic interactions of distributed objects.

  • A system for providing a distributed device resource-object-connection service based on a service delivery platform (SDP) is described. The system includes an SDP and proxy. The SDP configures to define distributed service functions as enablers, generates a convergence service by combining the enablers, and provides the generated convergence service. The proxy configures to connect a distributed device and an SDP to allow the SDP to use the distributed device as a resource, and define and use the distributed device as an enabler. The system are capable of defining distributed service functions as well as distributed sensors as enablers, and thereby allowing the distributed sensors to be used in the same sense as service-function enablers.
