  • The importance of cultural goods marketing in the management of museums is increasing as the museum's cultural goods are taking an important part in the profit. This study analyzes the differences in cultural goods between the National Palace Museum and the National Palace Museum through the 4P strategy of marketing products, prices, channels and promotion. While the National Palace Museum emphasizes cooperation with other companies in terms of products, the National Museum of Korea focuses on developing its own products. In terms of price, the two museums have different strategies because of their different market share. In terms of space, the National Palace Museum sells cultural goods through a variety of electronic merchants, while the National Museum of Korea is distributed through a special website. In terms of promotion, the Palace Museum uses online social media marketing strategies, while the National Museum of Korea collects ideas and develops cultural products through open recruitment activities every year. This research is of new significance to the development of cultural products in China and Korea through comparison between the National Palace Museum and the National Museum of Korea.

  • The major purpose of this study was to provide a basic model of mobile guide system for visitor's individual learning, self-regulated learning in a museum. System model realized by this study was as follows; 1) This system distributed exhibit information to tourists in place of existing audio guides or curators. Using wireless communications, the PDA automatically delivered information about the exhibit. The artistic and visual displays maximized effective and quick transmission of information to the user. 2) It made visiting a museum fun, exciting and entertaining. With the PDA guide the museum visitor can interact with detailed descriptions of exhibits, videos and images. The museum visitor, can also play a quiz game, take photos, record voices and send e-mail.

  • The Library, Museum and Art Museum are gradually expanding access to cultural contents for general public through the distributed network. However, unlike general contents in cultural contents characteristics most the objects of cultural contents seldom contain the words used for organization and search for information. In addition, it's hard to share or interconnect information between different systems because the names, expressions and meanings are different between metadata elements of various cultural contents. In order to solve this problem, proper organization and management of metadata is vital. In this study, the researcher have comparatively analyzed the data elements of each format based on National Library of Korea, National Museum of Korea, National Museum of Contemporary Art , the metadata formats approached from various aspects in the cultural contents area, the researcher tried to provide the basic materials for integration of cultural contents by securing interoperability of different metadata formats.

  • This study analyzed the cases of online art museum education based on the core competency of Jenkins' new media literacy to supplement the limitations of online art museum education programs. The core competency of media education suggested by Jenkins can serve as a reference point for an online art museum content. For the case analysis, 4 museums were selected as the domestic art museum, and 4 as the overseas art museum. The results of analysis based on new media literacy are as follows. In the case of overseas art museums, content for mutual communication such as video conferencing and commenting at the bottom of the site page was constructed, but domestic online art museums lacked these elements. Therefore, there is a need to improve core competency of appropriation, networking, negotiation, distributed cognition, and collective intelligence by organizing communication content.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify types of family visitors' behaviors more concretely, which could be useful in planning of exhibition spaces in a science museum, with given priority to their behaviors according to interaction between them, and to understand characteristics of the behaviors. With this view, the scope of this study was restricted to subjects, who were family visitors of Gwacheon National Science Museum, consisting of parents and their one elementary school child per family unit. For understanding their behaviors, itinerary tracking and observation method of behavior were conducted. Moreover, for understanding substantial types and characteristics of family visitors' behaviors, multivariate analysis was applied. Accordingly, the results of the study are as follows. First, as a result of factor analysis, two main factors were derived. In other words, they were 'Durability of viewing' as the first and 'Interactivity between family members' as the second, which were shown valid in classification of the types of their behaviors. Second, according to the factors derived, the types of their behaviors were classified into in-depth cooperative viewing, selective independent viewing, interest concentration child-led viewing and consideration parent-led viewing. They were shown valid in topological localization and classification, as a result of analysis of the main factors. Third, in view of common characteristics of the types, it is judged that active orientation prior to regular viewing could encourage visitors coming to the museum for the first time to feel more friendly to unfamiliar exhibition environments, during the initial seek time, and to reduce visual supersaturation. Fourth, it is judged that distributed arrangement of exhibits, which result in continuous standby, could avoid confused visitor circulation by the estimated time required for viewing.

  • This study aims to determine the value of the willingness to pay(WTP) admission fees through surveying the level at which visitors to national science museums in Korea are willing to pay for admission fees. The determination helps objectively identify ways to substantially increase admission-based revenues, thereby enhancing managerial efficiency of national science museums. Using the contingent valuation method(CVM), we analyzed the WTP for admission fees of 250 visitors to Gwacheon National Science Museum. The statistical analysis revealed that the average amount of WTP was far higher than the current admission fees(4,000 won for adults and 2,000 won for children and adolescents). WTP of questionnaire respondents was normally distributed at the mean of 8,447 won for adult admission and 6,535 won for non-adult admission to Gwacheon National Science Museum. This result can be used as basic evidence to redetermine admission fees of national science museums and ultimately improve financial vitality.

  • Total 222 lichen specimens of North Korea including 23 family, 54 genera and 119 species were newly obtained from the Hungarian Natural History Museum for the last 3 years. Among them, 12 species were added to Korean lichen checklist as new. All the species were deposited at the herbarium of Korea National Arboretum. In addition, unpublished list of lichen species distributed in Mt. Myohang was kindly donated from the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The list was originally prepared by North Korean lichenologists and kept in the museum from 1988. In the list, 26 family, 57 genera and 179 species of lichens were described and 17 species were included as new reports. This list provided 29 lichen species as new to the Korean Peninsula. This information will make significant contribution to lichenological study in the Korean Peninsula.

  • This study is a scientific analysis of 12 bronze materials which were excavated from Sanoisa temple in Chongju. Analysis of crystalline shape, size and distribution of the each sample metal suggested that they can be classified as tableware(wrought), vessels for memorial service(casting) and bell bronze, which is the same result as classification based on elemental composition. Most of the tableware are forging wares with composition of 8:2:0 in Cu:Sn:Pb, and vessels for memorial service are casting wares whose composition is 7:1:2 in Cu:Sn:Pb, and bell bronze's composition is Cu:Sn:Pb = 85:10:5/9:1:0. The result clearly shows that composition is closely related with usage and manufacturing method of wares. Trace elements such as Co, Fe and As are the elements with high correlation coefficient with Cu, which means they exist as impurities in Cu, and the content of As showed an increase in the order of tableware, memorial service vessels and bell bronze. In addition, the analysis of lead isotope ratio showed that 3 bronze materials with high lead content were made from the lead coming from Japan and China. The composition of the solder was Cu:Sn:Pb = 83:12:5 where small Pb crystals were distributed evenly.

  • This paper aimed to show the whole conservation process of the human shaped terra cotta mask that was excavated from one of construction sites at Jungcheon-ri, Geumsan-myeon, Jinju. This mask was X-rayed to get the correct making techniques and there are 4 holes on the top of the head and each diameter of the 3 holes is exact and the other hole is different from the three. The long and sharp shape of the nose is in trapezoid which was separately made with clay and put on (the face). It's found that there are round grooves each around upper and down lips. (upper in length: 10mm, down in length: 6 mm). All restoring materials and adhesives used for restoration to associate each piece are reversibility materials. According to a few points on buried bones of animals distributed around the sites, holes and grooves on the top of the head, ears and teeth to wear something, it academically presumes that this mask could be possibly used for the group ritual. Especially, the whole procedure from excavation to scientific conservation process resulted to have a special exhibition to give the public new eyes how the exhibition realizes to the public.
