  • The welding distortion of a hull structure in the shipbuilding industry is inevitable at each assembly stage. The geometric inaccuracy caused by welding distortion tends to preclude the introduction of automation and mechanization and requires additional man-hours for adjustment work during the following assembly stage. To overcome this problem, a distortion control method should be applied. For this purpose, it is necessary to develop an accurate prediction method that can explicitly account for the influence of various factors on the welding distortion. The validity of this prediction method must also be clarified through experiments. For the purpose of reducing the weld-induced bending deflection, this paper proposes the plastic counter-deforming method (PCDM), which uses line heating as the optimum distortion control method. The validity of this method was substantiated by a number of numerical simulations and actual measurements.

  • A real-time frame-layer rate control algorithm with a token bucket traffic shaper is proposed for distortion variation minimization. The proposed rate control method uses a non-iterative optimization method for low computational complexity, and performs bit allocation at the frame level to minimize the average distortion over an entire sequence as well as variations in distortion between frames. The proposed algorithm does not produce time delay from encoding, and is suitable for real-time low-complexity video encoder. Experimental results indicate that the proposed control method provides better visual and PSNR performances than the existing rate control method.

  • The block assembly of ship consists of a series of heat processes such as cutting, bending, welding, residual stress relaxation and fairing. With the fast development of computers, the thermal elasto-plastic analysis method has become a versatile tool for practical applications in the ship production. If numerical analysis is proved to be an advantageous tool to predict the residual deformation due to various heat processes, the optimum methods which can remove the welding distortion can be presented at each assembly stage, which will result in great progress in improving the accuracy of block assembly. In order to minimize the weld-induced angular distortion in thick weldments, this paper proposes the optimum groove design for various plate thickness as the distortion control method. • The purpose of this study is to clarify the transitional behavior and main factor of excessive welding distortion caused by fabrication process of STS 304 vacuum vessel having double curvature for the efficient quality control of vacuum vessel. In order to do it, the predictive equations of the welding distortion in simple weldment of vacuum vessel were established by conventional finite element analysis. And the principal factor controlling the welding distortion was identified by evaluating the welding distortion of vacuum vessel in each fabrication process with FEA and simplified thermo elastic method. Based on the results, the principal factors of distortion of vacuum vessel were clarified as angular distortion and transverse shrinkage which are a source of excessive out-of plane distortion in the double curved vacuum vessel. It was expected that the FE analysis results of this study could contribute to establish the proper control method of welding distortion for double curved vacuum vessel.

  • The objective of camera calibration is to determine the internal optical characteristics of camera and 3D position and orientation of camera with respect to the real world. Calibration procedure applicable to general purpose cameras and lenses. The general method to revise the accuracy rate of calibration is using mathematical distortion of lens. The effective og calibration show big difference in proportion to distortion of camera lens. In this paper, we propose the method which calibration distortion model by using neural network. The neural network model implicity contains all the distortion model. We can predict the high accuracy of calibration method proposed in this paper. Neural network can set properly the distortion model which has difficulty to estimate exactly in general method. The performance of the proposed neural network approach is compared with the well-known Tsai's two stage method in terms of calibration errors. The results show that the proposed approach gives much more stable and acceptabke calibration error over Tsai's two stage method regardless of camera resolution and camera angle.
