Distance from the Skin to the Cervical Epidural Space in Korean Adults (한국성인의 피부에서 경추경막외강까지의 깊이)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to determine if there is any relationship among the distance from the skin to cervical epidural space, patients height, weight, neck circumference and body mass index (BMI). Methods: The data was collected from 219 patients who suffer acute and chronic pain from neck and upper extrmities. Cervical epidural catheterization was perfomed at the $C_{6-7}$, $C_7-T_1$ intervertebral space. The depth of the epidural space from the skin, age, height, weight and neck circumference were measured by a standard ruler and the BMI was calculated. Results: The distance from the skin to cervical epidural space at $C_{6-7}$, $C_7-T_1$ in males, and $C_{6-7}$, $C_7-T_1$ in female were $4.69{\pm}0.55$ cm, $5.24{\pm}0.61$ cm, $4.28{\pm}0.49$ cm, and $4.83{\pm}0.54$ cm, respectively. Conclusions: The results indicated that body weight, neck circumference and BMI could be a guideline for the location of the cervical epidural space.

Weight Function-based Sequential Maximin Distance Design to Enhance Accuracy and Robustness of Surrogate Model (대체모델의 정확성 및 강건성 향상을 위한 가중함수 기반 순차 최소거리최대화계획)

  • In order to efficiently optimize the problem involving complex computer codes or computationally expensive simulation, surrogate models are widely used. Because their accuracy significantly depends on sample points, many experimental designs have been proposed. One approach is the sequential design of experiments that consider existing information of responses. In earlier research, the correlation coefficients of the kriging surrogate model are introduced as weight parameters to define the scaled distance between sample points. However, if existing information is incorrect or lacking, new sample points can be misleading. Thus, our goal in this paper is to propose a weight function derived from correlation coefficients to generate new points robustly. To verify the performance of the proposed method, several existing sequential design methods are compared for use as mathematical examples.

  • The optimum kernel size for error-distribution estimation with given error samples cannot be used in the weight adjustment of minimum Euclidean distance between error distributions (MED) algorithms. In this paper, a new adaptive kernel estimation method for convergence enhancement of MED algorithms is proposed. The proposed method uses the average rate of change in error power with respect to a small interval of the kernel width for weight adjustment of the MED learning algorithm. The proposed kernel adjustment method is applied to experiments in communication channel compensation, and performance improvement is demonstrated. Unlike the conventional method yielding a very small kernel calculated through optimum estimation of error distribution, the proposed method converges to an appropriate kernel size for weight adjustment of the MED algorithm. The experimental results confirm that the proposed kernel estimation method for MED can be considered a method that can solve the sensitivity problem from choosing an appropriate kernel size for the MED algorithm.

  • In recent years, the demand for image-processing technology in digital marketing has increased due to the expansion and diversification of the digital market, such as video, security, and machine intelligence. Noise-processing is essential for image-correction and reconstruction, especially in the case of sensitive noises, such as in CT, MRI, X-ray, and scanners. The two main salt and pepper noises have been actively studied, but the details and edges are still unsatisfactory and tend to blur when there is a lot of noise. Therefore, this paper proposes an algorithm that applies a weight-based Euclidean distance equation to the partial mask and uses only the non-noisy pixels that are the most similar to the original as effective pixels. The proposed algorithm determines the type of filter based on the state of the internal pixels of the designed partial mask and the degree of mask deterioration, which results in superior noise cancellation even in highly damaged environments.

Occurrence of apple-skin wound, changes of input labor and changes of apple weight and flesh firmness by apple stalk cutting in 'Fuji' apple (사과의 과경절단이 과피에 상처발생, 작업노력 저장시 과중, 경도에 미치는 영향)

  • When apples are picked or selected by grader, the rate of wound occurrence on the skin by apple stalk is remarkably high if the apple was bigger than 3 size during the harvest time. Except this case, the other sizes showed very little similarity. The crop of apple per 1 minute was 2.9kg without cutting fruit stalk, whereas only 1.1kg of the apples were obtained due to cutting the fruit stalk. Thereby, the harvesting without cutting fruit stalk is highly effective in terms of productivity rather than cutting the fruit stalk. As far as the wound occurrence rate on apple skin by apple stalk of distance between grader's dish and accumulated board is concerned, the grader which has no distance showed quite low rate of wound occurrence compared with those grader with 3cm or 8cm distance. When the apple was being stored, there was no difference in firmness between the cut stalk apple and the uncut stalked apple, however there was slightly more weight loss in the cut stalk apple than uncut stalk apple.

  • This paper determines the structures of one-homogeneous weight codes over finite chain rings and studies the algebraic properties of these codes. We present explicit constructions of one-homogeneous weight codes over finite chain rings. By taking advantage of the distance-preserving Gray map defined in [7] from the finite chain ring to its residue field, we obtain a family of optimal one-Hamming weight codes over the residue field. Further, we propose a generalized method that also includes the examples of optimal codes obtained by Shi et al. in [17].

  • Recently, it is proved that contactless smart-card based RFID tags, which is used for proximity authentication, are vulnerable to relay attacks with various location-based attacks such as distance fraud, mafia fraud and terrorist fraud attacks. Moreover, distance bounding protocols have been researched to prevent these relay attacks that can measure the message transmitted round-trip time between the reader and the tag. In 2005, Hancke and Kuhn first proposed an RFID distance bounding protocol based on secure hash function. However, the Hancke-Kuhn protocol cannot completely prevent the relay attacks because an adversary has (3/4)$^n$ attack success probability. Thus, this paper proposes a new distance-bounding protocol for light-weight RFID systems that can reduce to (5/8)$^n$ for the adversary's attack success probability. As a result, the proposed protocol not only can provide high-space efficient based on a secure hash function and XOR operation, but also can provide strong security against the relay attacks because the adversary's attack success probability is optimized to (5/8)$^n$.

Effect of Planting Distance on Quality and Productivity in Staking Cultivation of Squash(Cucurbita maxima) under Rain-shielding Condition (단호박 입체재배시 재식거리가 품질 및 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the optimum planting distance under rain-shielding condition for improving quality and productivity of squash by staking cultivation. The squashes were grown by 3 planting distances, such as 120${\times}$30, 120${\times}$40 and 120${\times}$50 cm during 3 months under non heat condition. The vine length, fresh weight and leaf area were reduced as planting distance was decreased until main branch was pinching. The first female flowering day and first fruit setting nodes were not different among treatments. The first fruit length and second fruit weight were increased in 120${\times}$50 cm planting distance, but the soluble solid contents were not different among treatments. In 120${\times}$30 cm plant distance, total yield was highest (6,510 kg/10a), but marketable yie이 was lowest. When the planting distance was between 120${\times}$40 cm and 120${\times}$50 cm, the marketable rate was similar (over 98%), but marketable yield was highest in 120${\times}$40 cm planting distance (5,012 kg/10a). The results of this study indicated that the optimum planting distance of staking cultivation in squash seemed to be 120${\times}$40cm.

Hydraulic Model Experimental Study on the Rope Kink Phenomena and Mooring Block Behavior under Wave Conditions at a Seaweed Farm (연승 수하식 양식시설의 파랑 중 해조류 꼬임 현상 및 계류용 블록 이동에 관한 수리모형 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, a hydraulic model experiment under wave conditions was carried out to investigate the gap/distance between two near-unit farm lines that affects the rope kink and shape variation of a seaweed farm during mooring block movement. As a result, rope kink occurred during the low wave height condition as the gap/distance between the two near-unit farm lines decreased. The seaweed farm maintained a stable shape in the higher wave height conditions as the gap/distance between the two near-unit farm lines increased. This result indicates that rope kink is sensitively affected by the gap/distance between the two near-unit farm lines. A tendency to increase the critical wave height was observed when mooring block movement occurred, and as the mooring block weight and wave period increased. From the experimental results in which incident wave conditions and the mooring block weight changed, as the front side mooring block weight increased from 3.0 to 8.0 tons, the seaweed farm was stable, and rear side mooring block movement hardly occurred. The observed tension of the seaside mooring line was a maximum at about 3.0 ton/m.

A Spatial Statistical Approach to the Delimitation of CBD (도심경계설정을 위한 공간통계학적 접근)

  • The main purpose of this study is to suggest the spatial statistical approach suitable for the delimitation of Busan CBD. For this purpose, Getis-Ord $G_i^*$ and both of IDW (Inverse Distance Weight) and FDB(Fixed Distance Band) were applied to delimit the CBD boundary. And then, the results of the CBD boundary were compared and verified with the methodologies of the previous studies. The result of IDW accorded with the previous study relating to the delimitation of the boundary of CBD, and the result of FDB was reflecting the characteristics of the mixed-use residential of a transition zone. As a result of the land use quotient, the mixed land use of residential and commercial was highly specialized in the boundary of FDB. These results will be able to support the understanding of urban spatial structure and the effective CBD management.
