Design of the menu on a multi-line display (Multi-line Display를 이용하는 제품의 메뉴 설계방안)

  • Menu-driven interfaces are frequently employed for user interfaces on many electronic products. Due to space constraint, a single or multi-line display is popularly used to show menu items unlike the software interfaces. Single or multi-line display present 8 .approx. 21. characters on an LCD screen and the user selects items using a series of button pushes. Multi-line displays are different from the single-line ones in the following aspects. First, they can present multiple line of information at the same time. Second, they can present menu items in a various way compared to single-line ones. However, due to their space constraint multi-line displays have many limitations compared to ordinary displays which usually use 14" screens. Therefore, guidelines are necessary for designing efficent multi-line display menus interfaces. In this study, a human factors experiment was conducted to examine the effects of three design variables which might affect the usability of a multi-line display menus. Factors investigated include menu structure, number of lines on the display, and item presentation method. Usability of the multi-line display menus was measured quantitatively in terms of four different aspects: speed, accuracy, inefficiency and preference. The analysis of variance was used not only to analyze the main effects of the factors and their interactions but also to see the differences between the single-line display menus and multi-line display ones. A set of design guidelines drawn from this study can be applied to the design of the user interfaces of a various types of electronic consumer products.

ASG(Amorphous Silicon TFT Gate driver circuit)Technology for Mobile TFT-LCD Panel

  • We developed an a-Si TFT-LCD panel with integrated gate driver circuit using a standard 5-MASK process. To minimize the effect of the a-Si TFT current and LC's capacitance variation with temperature, we developed a new a-Si TFT circuit structure and minimized coupling capacitance by changing vertical architecture above gate driver circuit. Integration of gate driver circuit on glass substrate enables single chip and 3-side free panel structure in a-Si TFT-LCD of QVGA ($240{\times}320$) resolution. And using double ASG structure the dead space of TFT-LCD panel could be further decreased.

  • The solution way of color difference in display device is using a device profile recorded with color dimension, color properties of each device and is using sRGB color space. The color matching is better sRGB than RGB color space. The sRGB is independent device color space and based on the monitor characteristice. An accurate characterization of the display device is essential for color matching. The calibration and characterization process in display device is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. The process of characterization performs a linerizaiton and transforms the linearized values into the CIE XYZ tristimulus values. The purposes of this paper is to estimate color reproduction using device profile and to explain the propriety of transformation method using variable.

  • Tangible interface can be understood as a newly defined concept, which can provide an effective and seamless interaction between the human as a subjective existence and the cyberspace as an objective existence. Tactile sensation is essential for many exploration and manipulation tasks in the tangible space. In this paper, we suggest the design of an integrated tactile sensor-display system that provides both of sensing and feedback with kinesthetic force, pressure distribution, vibration and slip/stretch. A new tactile sensor with PDVF strips and display system with bimorph actuators has been developed and integrated by developed signal processing algorithm. In the scenario of haptic navigation in the tangible space, tactile feedback system is successfully experimented.

  • We have developed Ground Software (GSW) of BITSE. The ground software includes mission operation software, data visualization software and data processing software. Mission operation software is implemented using COSMOS. COSMOS is a command and control system providing commanding, scripting and data visualization capabilities for embedded systems. Mission operation software send commands to flight software and control coronagraph. It displays every telemetry packets and provides realtime graphing of telemetry data. Data visualization software is used to display and analyze science image data in real time. It is graphical user interface (GUI) and has various functions such as directory listing, image display, and intensity profile. The data visualization software shows also image information which is FITS header, pixel resolution, and histogram. It helps users to confirm alignment and exposure time during the mission. Data processing software creates 4-channel polarization data from raw data.

  • The surrealism for the revelation of the unconscious realms shares the inner world of mentality with modern fashion display for the visual expression of sensation each other. The analysis of the influence which automatism technique of surrealism exerts on fashion display showed as follows : 1) The automatism technique elevated the dramatic effect of the sales room by scraping the perspective, or the principle of visual arts. 2) It maximized the effect of subject of the display by coinciding surrealism with realism. 3) The technique which distorts the things heralded the strong message to customers by letting them keep away from the fixed idea. 4) Humorous expression of display brought about the effect of sales stimulation by giving astonishment, shock and exaggeration. 5) Expression of surrealism and realism caused customers to feel shock, illusion, fantasy. 6) The automatism technique expressed the high-tech image, and free expression by revealing the diversity of subject. 7) Display hinted from nature satisfied the mental desire of the human beings to be assimilated with nature. The formative characteristic presented the new possibility of combination of display with arts through the avant-garde sensation. Sale's room, or the marketing space was to be sublimated to three dimensional art space, which enhanced the image of sale's room, furthermore meeting the demand of moderner's lifestyle.

Implementation of dynamic visual acuity testing system using optical see through head mounted display

  • Dynamic visual acuity is used as an important factor to measure athletic performance in sports field. A study on visual acuity testing system using non-see head mounted display (NST-HMD) was conducted recently. However, the NST-HMD has a problem that the sense of space felt by the subject differs from the actual environment. This is because the view is blocked so that it is only implemented in a virtual space. This paper proposes a dynamic visual acuity testing system using optical see through head mounted display (OST-HMD). To do this, OST-HMD and NST-HMD comparative tests were conducted using existing K-D (King-Devick) charts. Experiments were performed on 30 subjects and their visual acuity was measured and analyzed by parametric statistics and one-sample T-test. The results of the study demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed OST-HMD. This study is expected to use the visual inspection and training equipment of OST-HMD.

Space Construction and Props Used in Window Display of Clothing Stores (국내 의류매장 윈도우 디스플레이의 공간구성과 소도구)

  • Use of the right props in the window display of fashion stores is an essential factor of stimulating customers'interest in purchase, white display is known as important means of expressing fashion. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the practice of window display in domestic fashion stores in terms of props and space construction and to find the differences among 5 different brand types including adult women's, women's casual, men's, unisex, and sportswear. For this study, the window display of the 165 fashion brands was investigated according to the kinds of props used. The data were analyzed by using frequency count and percentage. The various kinds of props were used according to the different brand types and this result was found to be statistically significant. It was found that the four different types of mannequins were the most frequently used props in all fashion brands. And the other props used commonly in fashion stores included photographs, plants, furnitures, and outdoor displays. A variety of special kinds of props were used to attract customers depending on the types of brands. As a conclusion, the importance of selecting effective props was increasingly recognized and the prospect of window display was found to be dependent on the use of right props.

Color Correction Method of Non-standard Display Using Standard Color Space (표준 색공간을 이용한 비표준 디스플레이의 색 보정 방법)

  • A standard default color space, sRGB, provides compatibility for the transmission of color within the Internet color operating systems and device drivers. However, a display monitor we use generally have non-standard primaries and gamma characteristic different from those specified by sRGB. In this paper, correction methods of chromatic error for a non-standard display monitor are proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed method using the correction matrix reduced chromatic errors at in compared with the non-corrected image's on a non-standard display.

FPGA Design of High-performance Display Converter (고성능 디스플레이 변환기의 FPGA 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose the hardware architecture of a display converter which is consisted of four functional blocks. The four functional blocks consists of a set of color space converter, de-interacer, video display scaler, and gamma corrector. After the proposed architecture was implemented into hardware, we verified that it operated exactly. The designed hardware has 7,629 LUT and 6,800 Logic Register in Stratix device of Altera and operates in 270 MHz clock frequency.
