  • This paper examined the dynamic instability of a shallow arch according to the response characteristics when nearing critical loads. The frequency changing feathers of the time-domain increasing the loads are analyzed using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT), while the response signal around the critical loads are analyzed using Hilbert-Huang Transformation (HHT). This study reveals that the models with an arch shape of h = 3 or higher exhibit buckling, which is very sensitive to the asymmetric initial conditions. Also, the critical buckling load increases as the shape increases, with its feather varying depending on the asymmetric initial conditions. Decomposition results show the decrease in predominant frequency before the threshold as the load increases, and the predominant period doubles at the critical level. In the vicinity of the critical level, sections rapidly manifest the displacement increase, with the changes in Instantaneous Frequency (IF) and Instant Energy (IE) becoming apparent.

  • In this review, we will discuss aptamer technologies including in vitro selection, signal transduction mechanisms, and designing aptamers and aptazyme for label-free biosensors and catalysts. Dye-displacement, a typical label-less method, is described here which allows avoiding relatively complex labeling steps and extending this application to any aptamers without specific conformational changes, in a more simple, sensitive and cost effective way. We will also describe most recent and advanced technologies of signaling aptamer and aptazyme for the various analytical and clinical applications. Quantum dot biosensor (QDB) is explained in detail covering designing and adaptations for multiplexed protein detection. Application to aptamer array utilizing self-assembled signaling aptamer DNA tile and the novel methods that can directly select smart aptamer or aptazyme experimentally and computationally will also be finally discussed, respectively.

  • With the increasing availability of high-resolution satellite imagery, the demand for ortho-rectified products will also be growing. High-resolution of the imagery (up to 1m) the desired accuracy of the ortho-rectification is more sensitive to a number of factors. including satellite position, velocity, internal sensor error (specifically, misalignment. lens distortion, etc.). sensor modeling, relief displacement and matching error, etc. The main objective of this study is to analysis the accuracy of high resolution satellite data using simulation data.

  • In this paper, we studied about the dynamic behavior of a cracked rotating cantilever beam. The influences of a rotating angular velocity, the crack depth and the crack position on the dynamic behavior of a cracked cantilever beam have been studied by the numerical method. The cracked cantilever beam is modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. The lateral tip displacement and the axial tip deflection of a rotating cantilever beam is more sensitive to the rotating angular velocity than the depth and position of crack. Totally, as the crack depth is increased, the natural frequency of a rotating cantilever beam is decreased in the first and second mode of vibration.

  • This paper presents a high sensitive force sensing module to measure machining forces for a tip-based nanopatterning instrument. The force sensing module utilizing a leaf spring mechanism and a capacitive displacement sensor has been designed to provide a measuring range from 80$\mu$N to 8N. This force sensing module is mounted on a PZT driven in-feed motion stage with 1 nm resolution. The sample can be moved by a X-Y scanning motion stage with 5 nm resolution. In the patterning experiments, the machining forces were controlled and monitored by the force sensing module. Then, the patterned sample was measured by AFM. Experimental results demonstrated that the developed force sensing module can be used as an effective sensing device in the nanopatterning operation.

  • In-plane ESPI(Electronic Speckle Patten Interferometry)was devised to measure in~plane defamation and rotation of a specimen with laser in this study. The conventional measuring methods of surface deformations such as the strain gauge have many demerits because they are contact and point-to-point measuring ones. But that ESPI is noncontact, nondestructive and whole field measuring method can overcome previous disadvantages. We used ESPI which is sensitive to in-plane displacement for measuring in-plane deformations of a disk. First of all, the system calibration was done due to an in-plane rotation before getting deformations of a disk. Finally we showed good agreement between theexperiment results and those of the FEA(Finit Element Analysis).

  • Most existing damage detection methods based on curvature should investigate the indicator value changes between the intact and damaged state. However, the 'footprint' in the intact state is usually not available for most actual beams. Therefore, a new damage localization indicator called Difference of Nearby Difference Curvature Indicator (DNDCI) was introduced for single-span beams. This indicator does not require prior information of the intact beam and is sensitive to the damage occurs on or nearby the measuring points. Practical and detailed application method of DNDCI has been proposed. Besides the idealized simply supported beams, it was validated by example that DNDCI is also applicable to the actual single-span beams supported by bearings.

  • A laser interferometer is the unique measurement device that can measure the range up to a few meters with sub-nano resolution and this characteristic makes it as the important sensing device for the emerging nano-mechatronics technologies. The laser interferometer, however, is very sensitive to the environments such as temperature, humidity, sound noises, vibrations and air turbulences and these factors result in a few hundred nano meter errors. There have been many efforts to reduce these environmental errors. The output of the laser interferometer is assumed to be the sum of a real displacement and a Markov process noise. The purpose of this paper is to develop Kalman filter algorithms to reduce the laser interferometer measurement errors by exploiting the information of displacements in position-servo systems.

  • The variations of output energy due to tilt output coupler for different types of pulsed Nd:YAG laser resonators were compared by measuring FWHM (full width at half maximum) which means the width of angle displacement where maximum output energy decreases to half value. We proposed a new configuration of pulsed solid-state laser resonator which had high FWHM for tilting of output coupler and which was little sensitive for tilting of rear optics. We proved that our laser resonator had high alignment stability using ABeD ray matrix method because the ray matrix of such a resonator corresponded to unit matrix. atrix.

  • A cantilever deflection measurement system for AFM(atomic force microscope) was constructed by the laser deflection method using LEP type PSD. Design process including sensitivity analysis was presented and the performance of the system was demonstrated by several experiments using a sample specimen with 50nm-step on the surface. The measured displacement-amplification-factor showed good agreement with the expected one with about 8% deviation. The step height measurement data were compared to what were acquired by commercial AFM, and the result showed that there were about 5nm-deviation between the two data. These results satisfies our expectation in the stage of system design.
