This paper proposes an approximate procedure to estimate seismic displacement capacity - defined as yield displacement times the displacement ductility - of piles in marine oil terminals. It is shown that the displacement ductility of piles is relatively insensitive to most of the pile parameters within ranges typically applicable to most piles in marine oil terminals. Based on parametric studies, lower bound values of the displacement ductility of two types of piles commonly used in marine oil terminals - reinforced-concrete and hollow-steel - with either pin connection or full-moment-connection to the deck for two seismic design levels - Level 1 or Level 2 - and for two locations of the hinging in the pile - near the deck or below the ground - are proposed. The lower bound values of the displacement ductility are determined such that the material strain limits specified in the Marine Oil Terminal Engineering and Maintenance Standard (MOTEMS) are satisfied at each design level. The simplified procedure presented in this paper is intended to be used for preliminary design of piles or as a check on the results from the detailed nonlinear static pushover analysis procedure, with material strain control, specified in the MOTEMS.
In this paper, a dual-servo type VCM (Voice Coil Motor) for the measuring of nano-level displacement and small thrust is proposed and developed. The shape of VCM for improving the resolution of displacement and ensuring a large displacement are presented. The FEM (finite element method) is utilized to analyze the characteristics of VCM that produces linear driving thrust and satisfies the thrust that the measurement system requires. The Prototype is fabricated and an experiment is performed in order to measure displacement. As a result of simulation and testing, the proposed VCM shows the applicable possibility for a nano-level measurement system.
Due to the nature of the existing load, the criteria of assessing the intensity of the lightweight wall's impact resistance has been though of as obscure. The current study, therefore, focuses on the standardized assessment of the impact resistance to the force of the large soft body applying to the lightweight wall. The gypsum board wall showed a low level of the maximum residual displacement. It is, however, required to be careful about the selection of the finishing process since the high level of the maximum displacement is likely to cause harm to finishing materials. Unlike the gypsum board, the ALC block wall displayed a considerable rigidity while showing almost no maximum residual displacement. Even with the low level of the maximum displacement due to the stiffness, the ALC block wall is still likely to be affected by the vibration derived from any impact on the surface, which demands a need for additional study. The future experimental study, accordingly, will focus on the impact of the vibration on finishing materials, consequently leading to the accurate prediction of the possibility of potential damage to the lightweight wall caused by the large soft body.
This study, having combined and displaced blast furnace slag("BS" hereinafter) known as admixture material that delays hydration reaction with coarse particle cement("CC" hereinafter) collected in particle classification method during ordinary portland cement("OPC" hereinafter), reviewed the hydration heat characteristics affecting the concrete. To reduce hydration heat, the study plain-mixed which used 100% OPC for W/B 50% level 1, displaced CC at level 3 of 25%, 50% and 75% for OPC, and by displacing BS with admixture material at level 5 of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% for cement(OPC+CC), experimented totally 16 batches. As a result of experiment, in the case of flow, the more CC displacement rate increased, the more it tended to decrease, and the more BS displacement rate increased, the more it decreased. Also, as for simple adiabatic temperature rise by the CC and BS displacement rates, it decreased as displacement rate increased, and particularly in the case of displaced BS of 80%, It showed temperature reduction effect of about 63% companing with plain. Compressive strength decreased in proportion to displacement rate, however strength reduction increment was shown to decrease with age progress.
There has been an increasing demand for introducing a base isolation system to secure the seismic safety of a nuclear power plant. However, the design criteria and the safety assessment methodology of a base isolated nuclear facility are still being developed. A performance based design concept for the base isolation system needs to be added to the general seismic design procedures. For the base isolation system, the displacement responses of isolators excited by the extended design basis earthquake are important as well as the design displacement. The possible displacement response by the extended design basis earthquake should be limited less than the failure displacement of the isolator. The failure of isolators were investigated by an experimental test to define the ultimate strain level of rubber bearings. The uncertainty analysis, considering the variations of the mechanical properties of isolators and input ground motions, was performed to estimate the probabilistic distribution of the isolator displacement. The relationship of the displacement response by each ground motion level was compared in view of a period elongation and a reduction of damping. Finally, several examples of isolator parameters are calculated and the considerations for an acceptable isolation design is discussed.
Displacement is an important element for evaluating the stability and failure mechanism of hydraulic structures. Digital image correlation (DIC) is a useful technique to measure a three-dimensional displacement field using two cameras without any contact with test material. The objective of this study is to evaluate the behavior of stacked geotextile tubes using the DIC technique. Geotextile tubes are stacked to build a small-scale temporary dam model to exclude water from a specific area. The horizontal and vertical displacements of four stacked geotextile tubes are monitored using a dual camera system according to the upstream water level. The geotextile tubes are prepared with two different fill materials. For each dam model, the interface layers between upper and lower geotextile tubes are either unreinforced or reinforced with a cementitious binder. The displacement of stacked geotextile tubes is measured to analyze the behavior of geotextile tubes. Experimental results show that as upstream water level increases, horizontal and vertical displacements at each layer of geotextile tubes initially increase with water level, and then remain almost constant until the subsequent water level. The displacement of stacked geotextile tubes depends on the type of fill material and interfacial reinforcement with a cementitious binder. Thus, the proposed DIC technique can be effectively used to evaluate the behavior of a hydraulic structure, which consists of geotextile tubes.

This research was conducted to investigate the seismic behavior and ductility of circular spiral reinforcement concrete bridge columns used in high strength concrete. The experimental variables consisted of transverse steel amount and spacing, different axial load levels. From the test results, sufficient displacement ductility(at least 5.5) was observed for the columus which was satisfied wi th the requirement confinement steel amount of the Korean Bridge Design Specification. In case of the columns with 50 MPa of concrete compressive strength, the columns wi th 80 % of the confinement steel amount requirement showed adequate displacement ductility(at least 6.5) under 0.2 of axial load level. And in case of the columns with 60.2 77a of concrete compressive strength, the columns with 44 \ulcorner of the confinement steel requirement provided adequate displacement ductilit under less than 0.1 of axial load level and the columns with 0.22 % provided showed comparatively high the ducti1iffy under 0.21 of axial load level.
