Traffic-induced vibrations (TIVs) possess the potential to induce structural damage in both historical and critical edifices. Recent investigations have underscored the adverse impact of TIVs within buildings, manifesting as a deleterious influence on the quality of life and operational efficiency of occupants. Consequently, these studies have dichotomized TIVs into two primary limit categories: the threshold for vibrations capable of causing structural damage and the limit values associated with human comfort. In this current research endeavor, an exhaustive analysis of peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV), peak ground displacement (PGD), and the frequency spectrum of ground motions originating from diverse traffic sources has been conducted. Furthermore, the detrimental repercussions of these vibrations on structures, gauged through the assessment of the peak particle velocity (PPV) parameter, have been systematically evaluated. The findings of this study elucidate that TIVs within the examined structures do not attain magnitudes conducive to structural compromise; however, the levels surpassing human comfort limits are evident, attributable to specific sources and distances. Moreover, this investigation sheds light on the absence of comprehensive criteria and guidelines pertaining to the assessment of TIVs in structures within the Turkish Building Seismic Design Code 2018. It seeks to raise awareness among building constructors about the critical importance of addressing this issue, emphasizing the imperative for guidelines in mitigating the impact of TIVs on both structural integrity and human well-being.

Estimation of the stability of an operating tunnel through a back analysis is a difficult concept to analyze. Specially, when a relatively thick lining is constructed as in case of a subsea tunnel, there will be a limit to the use of displacement-based tunnel back analysis because the corresponding displacement is too small. In this study, DEA is adopted for tunnel back analysis and the feasibility of DEA for back analysis is evaluated. It is implemented in the finite difference code FLAC3D using its built-in FISH language. In addition, the stability of a tunnel lining will be evaluated from the development of displacement-based algorithm and its expanded algorithm with conformity of several parameters such as stress measurements.
Heavy structures such as large roof structures and superbeams were lifted using hydraulic jacks. Moreover, member verticality and horizontality checks were performed at every construction stage to monitor the measuring tapes for their structural safety, using CCTV. When the relative displacement exceeded the predetermined limit, the hydraulic systems were terminated. After adjusting the relative displacement manually, lifting was resumed. The accuracy of the relative displacement was found not to be reliable, however, due to eye check using CCTV, and it took a long time due to manual adjustment. Moreover, real-time monitoring was impossible. To address these problems, the monitoring-evaluation system for the stable lifting of heavy structures was proposed, using the total station of the automatic-target-recognition type, laser-distance-measuring devices, a data logger, a strain gauge, and others. After developing a program for the operation of the system and for the acquisition of data, a mock-up test was conducted in a large-scale structural laboratory to evaluate the accuracy and applicability of the system. The stable acquisition and applicability of data was confirmed in the test.

In this study, a field model experiment was performed to analyze the bahavior of slope during failure. It was analyzed through x-MR control chart method with inverse displacement and K-value. As a result, the portent was confirmed at 4 minutes before slope failure in Case 1. The change of the control limit line according to moving range was analyzed and it was effective to apply K = 3. Use of the inverse displacement and x-MR control chart method will be useful for the prediction of abnormal behavior through quick and objective judgment. Prediction of slope failure using control chart method can be used as basic data of slope measurement management standard, and it can contribute in reduction of life and property damage caused by slope disaster.

As the demand for slim laptops requires ion'-height optical disc drives, vibration problems of optical disc drives are of great concern. Additionally, with the decrease of a track width and a depth of focus in high density drives, studies on vibration resonance between mechanical parts become more important. From the vibration point of view, the performance of optical disc drives is closely related with the relative displacement between a disc and an objective lens which is controlled by servo mechanism. In other words, to read and write data properly, the relative displacement between an optical disc and an objective lens should be within a certain limit. The relative displacement is dependent on not only an anti-vibration mechanism design but also servo control capability. Good servo controls can make compensation for poor mechanisms, and vice versa. In a usual development process, robustness of the anti-vibration mechanism is always verified with the servo control of an objective lens. Engineers partially modify servo gain margin in case of a data reading error. This modification cannot correct the data reading error occasionally and the mechanism should be redesigned more robustly. Therefore it is necessary to verify a mechanism with respect to the possible servo gain plot. In this study we propose the experimental verification method far anti-vibration mechanism with respect to the existing servo gain plot. This method verifies axial vibration characteristics of optical disc drives on the basis of transmissibility. Using this method, we verified our mechanism and modified the mechanism for better anti-vibration characteristics.
For the development of immunodetection method of 4,4'-dichlorodipheny-2,2,2-trichloroethane (p,p'-DDT), a persistent and broad toxic organochlorine insecticide, various DDT derivatives were synthesized and characterized for the use of immunogens and the coating ligands for the antibody evaluation. The appropriate lengths of linkers were introduced to investigate more efficient DDT derivatives. Among these hapten derivatives, 2,2-Bis(4-chlorophenyl)acetic acid (DDA), 5,5-Bis(4-chlorophenyl)-5-hydroxypentanoic acid (DDHP) and 5,5-Bis(4-chlorophenyl)-5-chloropentanoic acid (DDCP) were conjugated with keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) for the use of immunogen to produce antibodies. 6,6-Bis(4-chlorophenyl)-6-hydroxyhexanoic acid (DDHH) and 3-[6,6-Bis(4-chlorophenyl)-6-hydroxyhexanoylamino]propanoic acid (DDHHAP) in addition to above hapten derivatives were conjugated to ovualbumin (OVA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) for the use of coating ligands to measure the titration level of antibody and the displacement of free analytes. Three matching pairs of antibodies and coating ligands were selected for the simultaneous detection of p,p'-DDT and its related compounds of DDA and 2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dichloroethylene (p,p'-DDE) by investingating the displacement of free analytes in an indirect ELISA. These were PAb #1 and coating ligand DDCP-OVA, PAb #1 and DDHHAP-OVA, and PAb #3 and DDHHAP-OVA. The most useful immunoreaction for DDT analytes were obtained using PAb #3 and coating ligand DDHHAP-OVA showing 3.4 ng/mL of lower limit of detection. These results indicated that titration level and free analytes displacement were greatly influenced by hapten derivatized and carrier proteins conjugated.
The settlement limit concept is generally adopted as design criteria of rock-socketed pile foundations, therefore, the load-displacement$(\sigma-\sigma)$ behavior of the rock-socketed piles should be well understood at the design stage, which, however, is hard to achieve due to its complexity. To help this out, field pile load tests are executed on cast-in-situ concrete piles, first, to figure out the $\sigma$-$\delta$ behavior of rock-socketed piles. Next, the $\sigma-\sigma$ relations of the piles are simulated numerically using commercial package program(ELAC) varying a couple of input data which are sensitive in shaping the $\sigma$-$\delta$ curves. Finally, the relation between the best input data for the numerical simulations and the geotechnical field data are cultivated to generalize the numerical simulation procedures, which enables geotechnical engineers to predict the $\sigma$-$\delta$ behavior at the design stage, if appropriate geotechnical field data are provided.

The displacements of steel deck bridge due to construction step are measured, and three dimensional analysis with full modeling is carried out to compare with the measured results. Three dimensional structural analyses considering construction step by large block construction method are accomplished with verified model. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Comparing the data of grid analysis with the result of 3D full modeling in steel deck bridge, the design method using grid analysis has a limit for describing the displacements of curved bridge. The analysis of 3D full modeling has been proved as more accurate method. The differentiation of results in two methods is about 10%~20%. 2. It is verified that the maximum displacement of during construction is 1.7 times larger than the displacement of final construction. 3. The bridge behavior considering the construction step is somewhat different from that of final stage in whole structure and the displacement and stress during construction is larger than that of final construction. Therefore, it needs the reasonable structural design considering the construction step to get economical efficiency and a high competitive construction.

Newmark's sliding block analysis is the most commonly used method for predicting earthquake-induced permanent displacement of embankment slopes. Additionally, it yields the amount of slip circle sliding using the limit equilibrium theory. Thus, permanent displacement does not occur until the seismic load exceeds the yield acceleration, which induces sliding of the slip circle. The evolution of Newmark's sliding block analysis has been made by introducing the numerical seismic response analysis results since it was introduced. This study compares seismic performance evaluation results for the example enclosure dam section with the analysis methods. As a result, earthquake-induced permanent displacement using Newmark's sliding block analysis did not occur for the enclosure dam, indicating a high safety factor. However, nonlinear response history analysis gave reasonable results.
