  • The purpose of the study is to find development of contact area, contact pressure and friction forces occurring at joints or connection areas inbetween structural members or mechanical parts. The problem has a pair of difficulties intrinsically; a constraint of displacement due to contact, and presence of work term by nonconservative friction force in the variational principle of the problem. Because of these difficulties, the variational principle remains in the form of inequality. It is resolved by penalty method and perturbation method making the inequality to an equality which is proper for computational purposes. A contact problem without friction is solved to find contact area and contact pressure, which are to be used as data for the analysis of the friction problem using perturbed variational principle. For numerical experiments, a Hertz problem, a rigid punch problem, and the latter one with friction effects are solved using $Q_2$-finite elements.

In this paper, impact analysis of human model for shooting posture is carried out. ADAMS code and LifeMOD is used in impact analysis of human model and modeling of the human body, respectively. On the shooting, human model is affected by rifle impact during the 0.001 second. Performed simulation time for shooting is 0.1 second. Applied constraint condition to human-rifle system is rotating and spherical condition. As the results, the displacement of rifle and transfer path analysis of impact of human model is presented.

  • In this second part of the paper, the automatic mesh generation and remeshing algorithm using bubble packing method is applied to the nonlinear problem. The remeshing/refinement procedure is necessary in the large deformation process especially because the mesh distortion deteriorates the convergence and accuracy. To perform the nonliear analysis, the transfer of state variables such as displacement and strain is added to the algorithm of Part 1. The equilibrium equation based on total Lagrangian formulation and elasto-viscoplastic model is used. For the numerical experiment, the upsetting process including the contact constraint condition is analyzed by two refinement criteria. And from the result, it is addressed that the present algorithm can generate the refined meshes easily at the largely deformed area with high error.

  • This paper presents resizing design optimization method by utilizing genetic algorithm(GA), which consists of three basic operators : reproduction, crossover and mutation. The fitness and penalty function for resizing optimization problem are defined, and the flowchart of the developed computer program along with the descriptions of each modules is presented. Also, modelling for flexible-body dynamic analysis is presented. The model is composed of bodies, joints, and force elements such as translational spring-damper-actuator. The design objects si to determine the wall thickness for minimum weight under dynamic displacement constraint.

  • This paper focuses on post-buckling analysis of Timoshenko beams with various boundary conditions subjected to a non-uniform thermal loading by using the total Lagrangian Timoshenko beam element approximation. Six types of support conditions for the beams are considered. The considered highly non-linear problem is solved by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. As far as the authors know, there is no study on the post-buckling analysis of Timoshenko beams under uniform and non-uniform thermal loading considering full geometric non-linearity investigated by using finite element method. The convergence studies are made and the obtained results are compared with the published results. In the study, the relationships between deflections, end rotational angles, end constraint forces, thermal buckling configuration, stress distributions through the thickness of the beams and temperature rising are illustrated in detail in post-buckling case.

  • This study addresses spacecraft moment of inertial estimation approach using Modified Rodrigues Parameters(MRP). The MRP offer advantage by avoiding singularity in Kalman Filter design for attitude determination caused by the norm constraint of quaternion parameters. Meanwhile, MRP may suffer singularity for large angular displacement, so that we designed appropriate reference attitude motion for accurate estimation. The proposed approach is expected to provide stable error covariance update with accurate spacecraft mass property estimation results.

  • This work presents an optimality criteria method applicable io the design of plane frames with I-shape sections. All kinds of constraints are treated properly to ensure the mathematical rigour of the method as ever. Among the various properties of a section, the cross-sectional area is chosen as the design variable associated with the member. Then other properties, moment of inertia and depth, are determined from the cross-sectional area using relationships established in advance from the sectional data for AISC standard W shapes. The optimality criteria established in this work is perfect in mathematical terms provided that the relationships between properties of a section are correct. A redesign algorithm is derived relying heavily on the Newton-Raphson method to solve the system of nonlinear constraint equations. A worked example is also Presented.

  • This paper introduces a real time inspecting and monitoring system by using wireless communication and image processing technique. The communication system is developed by using 80c196kc microprocessor and it has data acquisition function for several kinds of sensors such as pluviometer, temperature, tension meter, elinometer and so on. The image processing method adopts Lalacian of Gaussian operator and least square method to extract line features for the captured images and uses a relaxation matching algorithm based in global structure constraint satisfaction to distinguish the matching error for those features. When the algorithm is processed, motion parameters of displacement area and its direction are computed. Once movement is recognized ...

  • Rigid plate elastically supported at the edges is modeled and the performance of the optimal vibration control under sinusoidal excitation is tested. The controller based on the linear quadratic regulator with output feedback is designed to control the multi-degree of freedom vibration. Relative weighting parameters are considered as design constraints to determine the limitation of maximum control force and state parameters. Control force calculated by proportional output feedback of the displacement and velocity is used to suppress the vibration induced by the sinusoidal external force. The active vibration control of vibrating plate by the LQR controller is examined through the numerical simulations that show the effectiveness of optimal control scheme on the three degrees of freedom structure.
