  • Properties of polymer based nanocomposites depend on dispersion state of embedded fillers. In order to examine the effect of dispersion state on rheological properties, a new bi-mode FENE dumbbell model was proposed. The FENE dumbbell model includes two separate ensemble sets of dumbbells with different friction coefficients, which simulate behavior of well dispersed and aggregated carbon nanotubes (CNTs). A new parameter indicating dispersion state of the CNT was proposed to account for degree of dispersion quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Rheological material functions in elongational, steady shear, and oscillatory shear flows were obtained numerically. The CNT/epoxy nanocomposites with different dispersion state were prepared depending on whether a solvent is used for the dispersion of CNTs or not. Dispersion state of the CNT in the epoxy nanocomposites was morphologically characterized by the field emission scanning electronic microscope and the transmission electron microscope images. It was found that the numerical prediction was in a good agreement with experimental results especially for steady state shear flow.

  • In combining dispersed optimization models, either primal or dual(or both) decomposition method widely used as an organizing device. Interpreting the methods economically, the concepts of price and resource-directive coordination are generally well accepted. Most of deomposition/ integration methods utilize either primal information of dual information, not both, from subsystems, while some authors have developed mixed decomposition approaches employing two master problems dealing primal and dual proposals separately. In this paper a hybrid decomposition method is introduced, where one hybrid master problem utilizes the underlying relationships between primal and dual information from each subsystem. The suggested method is well justified with respect to the flexibility in information flow pattern choice (some prices and other quantities) and to the compatibility of subdivision's optimum to the systemwide optimum, that is often lacking in conventional decomposition methods such as Dantzig-Wolfe's. A numerical example is also presented to illustrate the suggested approach.

  • A copper-tungsten sintered alloy(Cu-W) has been friction welded to a tough pitch copper in order to investigate the effect of upset pressure on friction weldability. Under the condition of friction time 0.8sec, upset pressure 150MPa, the tensile strength and Charpy impact value of the friction welded joint were 336MPa, $400KJ/m^2$ respectively. And highest temperature of the weld measured was below $800^{circ}K$ which is very lower than melting point of Cu($1356^{circ}K$). Under the same conditions, W grains picked up in Cu matrix from Cu-W profitably affected on these mechanical fracture, and were dispersed in Cu by plastic flow during brake time.

  • Heat transfer coefficient and fin efficiency of a heat exchanger dispersed in the microelement of control volume were predicted with various flow patterns, conditions and material properties. A computational program was developed by using the method of efficiency-NTU(Number of transfer unit). The modelling was applied to heat exchangers, also was integrated in power pack cooling system in an armored vehicle. The compatibility and the generality were proved by comparing the prediction values with the test results. The developed program may be useful for the design of the cooling system in an armored vehicle.

  • Due to the high penetration ratio of dispersed generations, overvoltage problem of the feeder has become more an important issue in distribution system operation. This paper proposes a new method for the smart inverter to control reactive power to mitigate voltage rise by the reverse power flow from the DGs. The proposed method controls reactive power based on current measurement while conventional methods use voltage measurement which include unacceptably large errors. Various case studies using MATLAB simulation have been performed to verify effectiveness of proposed method.

  • For studying of coagulation and sedimentation in estuarine clay, we obtained several flow curves with various concentrations of sea water by using Coutte type rotational rheometer. The initial shear stress on high concentration of sea water was observed big, but after this, its value is decreasing with increasing shear rate. The maximum pick of shear stress is decreasing with the decreasing of concentration of sea water The trend is same totally above for viscosity. The sedimentation times with the concentration of sea water vary in $\infty$ ~ 5 minutes. The zeta potential is changed dramatically between 114 and 118 concentration of sea water. That is consistent with the sedimentation graph. From these results, the phenomena of coagulation and sedimentation can be explained with viscoelastic terms on structual formation among particles by the changes of surface potential affected from contacting sea water to dispersed particles.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the extraction of chromium(Vl) ion in waste water through the liquid surfactant membrane with open-type Perforated Reciprocating-Plate Column. Extraction experiments were conducted to measure the effect of flow characteristics of continuous and dispersed phase and stroke velocity, sodium hydroxide concentraction in internal aqueous phase, sulfuric acid concentraction in outer phase, and residence time distribution and measured extraction velocity. The result of experiments showed that extraction velocity of chromium ion was maximum when stroke velocity was 180 1/min and dispersion phase velocity was 30m11min, continuous phase velocity was 20m1/min. Extraction velocity of chromium ion increased with increasing difference of hydrogen ion concentraction of dispersion and continuous phase and column stage decreased.

  • Copper nanoparticle-doped and graphitic carbon nanofibers-covered porous carbon beads were used as an efficient catalyst for treating synthetic phenolic water by catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) in a packed bed reactor over 10-30 bar and $180-230^{\circ}C$, with air and water flowing co-currently. A mathematical model based on reaction kinetics assuming degradation in both heterogeneous and homogeneous phases was developed to predict reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) under a continuous operation with recycle. The catalyst and process also showed complete COD reduction (>99%) without leaching of Cu against a high COD (~120,000 mg/L) containing industrial wastewater.

  • Direct-contact heat transfer of a single saturated droplet upon colliding with a heated wall in the regime of film boiling was experimentally investigated using high-resolution infrared thermometry technique. This technique provides transient local wall heat flux distributions during the entire collision period. In addition, various physical parameters relevant to the mechanistic modelling of these phenomena can be measured. The obtained results show that when single droplets dynamically collide with a heated surface during film boiling above the Leidenfrost point temperature, typically determined by droplet collision dynamics without considering thermal interactions, small spots of high heat flux due to localized wetting during the collision appear as increasing Wen. A systematic comparison revealed that existing theoretical models do not consider these observed physical phenomena and have lacks in accurately predicting the amount of direct-contact heat transfer. The necessity of developing an improved model to account for the effects of local wetting during the direct-contact heat transfer process is emphasized.
