접근성과 생물다양성 증진을 고려한 도시 공원·녹지의 필요지역 선정 - 성남시를 사례로 - (The Selection of Suitable Site for Park and Green Spaces to Increase Accessibility and Biodiversity - In Case of Seongnam City -)

  • Urban park and green space provide various functions. Among the functions, human benefit and increase of biodiversity are known to be important. Therefore, it is important to consider human and biotic aspect in the process of selecting suitable site for park and green space. However, there is insufficient research on both aspects. In this study, we used green network to analyze human and biotic aspect to select suitable site for park and green space in Seongnam City in Korea. To analyze the green network, we used accessibility for human aspect and used dispersal distance and habitat size for biotic aspect. We conducted least-cost path modelling using movement cost. In case of biotic aspect, GFS (generic focal species) is used to estimate habitat size and dispersal distance. To find out suitable site for park and green space, we used an overlay analysis method. As the result, old residential areas are shown have insufficient green network which needs park and green space. Furthermore, the green network for biotic aspect is insufficient in old residential areas comapred to green network for human aspect. The result of this study could contribute in planning of park and green space to maximize their functions.

Re-emergence of the Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) in inland South Korea

  • Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), which has never been recorded in South Korea, appeared on Jeju Island in 2018 and re-emerged in the inland area of Seocheon-gun (South Chungcheong Province) and in Goyang-si (Gyeonggi Province) in the following year. This study aims to report the progress in observing P. falcinellus in the inland areas of South Korea in 2019 and to predict its origin region and future propensity for habitats in the country through literature review. On 5 May 2019, an individual of P. falcinellus with breeding feathers was observed in a farmland in Wolsan-ri, Seocheon-gun. Twelve days later, another one was identified in a farmland in Janghang-dong, Goyang-si, about 173 km north of Wolsan-ri. The observed birds fed and rested in the area and stayed for only a day. The individual birds spotted in South Korea in 2019 are conjectured to have come from either Southeast Asia or Australia, among areas located in East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF). This is because P. falcinellus, a species with excellent dispersal capacity, forms a population in new areas during extreme environmental changes in their current habitats, especially droughts. For 2 years, P. falcinellus was observed to be migrating in spring; however, in the future, they may exhibit the same propensity for breeding and habitats as that of birds migrating in autumn. As it is a conspicuous species, effective detection of their arrival requires a survey system that classifies the country by habitat type and involves periodic and multiple observations by experts and citizens.

고속도로 생태통로 위치 선정 방법에 관한 연구 - 경부 고속도로 양재-판교 구간을 중심으로 - (Approach to the Location of Wildlife Corridors on Highways - Between Yang-jae and Pan-gyo ICs of Seoul-Busan Highway, Korea -)

  • Ecosystem fragmentation by human intervention breaks down the biosphere habitat. Wildlife corridors connect biosphere habitats to maintain ecosystem continuity and provide animals with connecting routes. In Korea, there are 17 existing wildlife corridors on highways (as of December, 2006. Korea Freeway Corporation). There are 24 highway routes, 2,923km of highway(as of December, 2004. Korea Freeway Corporation). However, wildlife corridors are not enough and roadkill increases every year, so we need to construct additional wildlife corridors on highways. This study proposes a new approach to the location of wildlife corridors on highways, using a comprehensive analysis method for main location elements, and applies it to a study area. First, it examines traditional approaches to location of wildlife corridors through literature review and field study to analyze the present conditions of existing wildlife corridors. Then, it developes a comprehensive analysis method for the location of wildlife corridors. (1) Field investigation : investigate planting, water bodies and so on. (2) Roadkill analysis : roadkill counts, locations, time, and so on. (3) Monitoring : animal traces were surveyed and sensor cameras were installed to determine target species. (4) Simulation for animal movement : most probable wildlife dispersal was simulated by a computer software. (5) A new comprehensive approach overlays all analysis on a map and determines the location of proposed new wildlife corridors. In conclusion, it proposes an over-bridge type wildlife corridor in Dalnaenae Hill (413-414km from Busan) and an underpass type near the entrance to Gwanhyun temple way (415-416km from Busan). This new approach based on roadkill data, computer simulation of wildlife dispersal, monitoring of animals, and site analysis, may contribute to better location of wildlife corridors on highways.

한반도에 자생하는 침엽수의 종 구성과 분포 (Species Composition and Distribution of Native Korean Conifers)

  • 한반도에 자생하는 침엽수의 종 구성, 시ㆍ공간적 분포 생활형을 생물지리학적으로 분석하였다. 한반도에는 4과 10속 30종의 침엽수가 나며, 지질시대에 일찍 나타난 수종일수록 넓게 분포하고 종수도 많다. 빙하기 동안 한대성 침엽수의 분포지는 넓어졌으나, 난온대성 침엽수의 분포지는 좁아졌고, 높은 산에 격리된 나무의 일부는 고유종이 되었다. 자생 침엽수는 수평 및 수직적 분포역에 따라 고산형, 아고산형, 산지형, 해안형, 도서형, 격리형 등 6대 유형으로 나뉘고, 다시 12소 유형으로 세분된다. 자생 침엽수의 전형적인 생활형은 상록교목으로 봄에 꽃이 피고, 같은 해나 다음 해 가을에 열매가 익으며. 씨앗에 날개가 있어 산포에 유리한 종이 많다. 앞으로 자생 침엽수의 이동과 산포, 유전, 생태, 환경, 문화 등에 대한 연구가 요구된다.

도시 내 이민자 자영업의 시공간적 역동성 - 시카고 거주 한국인 이민자를 사례로 - (Spatio-Temporal Dynamics of Immigrant Self-employment: A Case Study of Korean Immigrants in Chicago)

  • 이민자 집단에 있어 자영업은 생존과 사회경제적 지위 상승의 중요한 수단이다. 지리학적 관점에서는 이민자들의 주거 집중이 이민자 자영업이 성장하는데 중요한 역할을 한다고 보아 왔다. 하지만 최근 이민자들의 거주지가 분산되어 집거권의 역할이 축소될 가능성이 점쳐 지고 있다. 본 연구는 이민자들의 주거 분산에 따른 자영업에 대한 집거권이 행하는 역할이 어떻게 변화해 가는지 시카고 대도시권에 거주하고 있는 한국인 자영업자들을 사례로 분석하였다. 먼저 Public Use Microdata Sample(PUMS) 통계자료를 통해 한인 자영업의 전반적인 변화상을 점검하였다. 주거 분산에 대한 한인 자영업자들의 반응과 대응을 설문조사를 통해 살펴보았다. 반응이라는 측면에서 자영업자들을 '영향이 있었다'는 그룹과 '영향이 별로 없었다'는 그룹으로 나누고 각각의 특성이 고객확보, 노동력수급, 자재수급, 사업정보획득, 그리고 사업경험이라는 측면에서 서로 다르다고는 것이 밝혀졌다. 두 그룹이 민족네트워크에 의존하는 정도와 활용하는 방법에서 상이하여 그러한 반응을 보인 것으로 판단되었다. 본 연구는 이민자 기업가주의의 발흥에 있어 주거 집중의 중요성은 해당 자영업의 민족적 네트워크의 의존도와 활용방법에 달려있다는 점을 밝혔다.

Pollen-Mediated Gene Flow between Glufosinate Ammonium-Tolerant GM and Non-GM Rice

  • To assess the risk of genetically modified (GM) rice on the agricultural ecosystem, agronomic characteristics, pollen longevity and outcrossing rate between GM (Iksan 483 and Milyang 204) and non-GM (their wild types and female parents) varieties were investigated using the bar gene as a tracer marker in paddy field. The agronomic characteristics of two GM rice were similar to their female-parents (non-GM rice) except heading date and 1,000 grain weight of Iksan 483, and they did not show a difference by the introgression of the bar gene as the genetic traits of rice varieties. Pollen viability was more than 90% just after shedding, and it was rapidly decreased below 50% at 5 minutes after shedding both GM and non-GM varieties. The Pollen longevity was lost after 30 minutes of anthesis. When the distance of gene flow from GM to non-GM rice detected to 6 m from the edge of GM rice plant, the maximum distance of pollen dispersal was 4.5m and 3.9m in Iksan 483 and Milyang 204, respectively, and that was increased in order of west, south, east, and north to the dominant wind direction, west-south. Mean outcrossing rate was very low as 0.003 and 0.001% within 1.5 m from the edge of Iksan 483 and Milyang 204, and the GM hybrids by the pollen dispersal did not detected over 4.5 m from the edge of GM rice plant. The results may help to establish the strategy which reduce the risk of pollen-mediated gene flow between GM and non-GM rice.

Underdeveloped Embryos and Dormancy Type in Seeds of Two Heloniopsis Species Endemic to Korea

  • Heloniopsis koreana and Heloniopsis tubiflora (Melanthiaceae) are endemic herbaceous species of the Korean Peninsula. The Melanthiaceae family has been described as having seeds with small, underdeveloped embryos at the time of dispersal, and morphological (MD) or morphophysiological dormancy (MPD). However, there are few reports on embryo growth, morphology, and seed germination in Heloniopsis species. The aims of this study were to investigate embryo growth and seed dormancy, and to determine the type of dormancy exhibited by these species. The effects of incubation temperatures, light conditions, and gibberellic acid ($GA_3$) on dormancy break and seed germination were tested. Freshly matured seeds of the two species had small embryos that occupied about 9-11% of the length of the endosperm, and which increased by more than 300% in length before radicle emergence, indicating that the embryos are underdeveloped at the time of dispersal. Embryos in the seeds grew under warm temperature regimes (between $25/15^{\circ}C$ and $30/20^{\circ}C$). $GA_3$ application (tested only in the light) overcame seed dormancy and promoted germination. Approximately 30% of the seeds of H. koreana and approximately 40% of the seeds of H. tubiflora germinated in suitable environmental conditions (light and temperature) within 4 weeks. Therefore, 30-40% of the seeds of the two species exhibited MD, and the rest of the seeds had non-deep simple MPD. Light was found to be one of the critical factors for germination because no seed of either of the two Heloniopsis species germinated under constant dark conditions, and thus, these species have the potential to form a persistent soil seed bank. Understanding these germination requirements will help in development of effective strategies to increase the establishment of seedlings in their native habitat.

군락내 공간적 분석에 의한 세 종간 상관관계 (Three Species Associations with Spatial Autocorrelation Analysis in Community)

  • 소나무(Pinus densiflora), 쥐똥나무(Ligustrum obtusifolium), 그리고 오리나무(Alnus japonica)의 공간적 상관관계를 생태적, 유전적 분석을 통해 살펴보았다. 이 가운데, 소나무와 쥐똥나무의 생태적 공간관계는 양의 상관관계를 나타낸 반면, 쥐똥나무와 오리나무는 음의 상관관계를 나타내었다. Moran의 I값과 표준편차(SND: standard normal deviate)값에 의하면 소나무는 18 m에서 집단구조를 형성 한 반면, 쥐똥나무는 12.5 m간격으로 집단구조가 형성되어 있었다. 오리나무는 명확한 집단구조가 결여되어 있었다. 소나무와 쥐똥나무의 두 종간의 공간구조에 있어, 유전적으로 유의한 상관관계가 형성 된 것은 소나무의 수관이 비교적 좁고, 적절한 피음효과를 제공함으로써, 쥐똥나무의 생육에 기여하였기 때문으로 생각된다. 오리나무와 쥐똥나무의 경우, 광합성과 관련한 수광경쟁에서 비교적 넓은 오리나무의 수관 때문에,두 종간의 동소적 관계가 방해되는 것으로 추정된다.

Seasonal distribution of airborne pollen in Ulsan, Korea in 2009-2010

  • To determine the peak dispersal times of allergenic pollen grains in Ulsan, Korea, we performed continuous airborne pollen counts at three stations (Sts. A, B, and C) in Ulsan from August 2009 to November 2010. Pollen grains were sampled using a Durham sampler. Two peak pollen dispersal seasons were observed per year. The peak seasons generally coincided with the flowering period of anemophilous trees: Taxodiaceae (February), Alnus (March), Cupressaceae (April), Quercus, and Pinus (May), and with the flowering phase of herbs from August to November, e.g., Humulus, Artemisia, Gramineae, and Ambrosia from August through September. The highest concentration of airborne pollen was from Pinus (68%), followed by Quercus (15%), Alnus (6%), and Humulus (2%); whereas very low pollen concentrations were from Taxodiaceae, Cupressaceae, Artemisia, Gramineae, and Ambrosia (${\leq}$ 1% of the annual total airborne pollen concentration). Our findings indicate that Alnus and Humulus pollen are major allergens whereas those of Pinus and Quercus are minor allergens. The concentration of Alnus pollen grains at St. C was over five times that at Sts. A and B. This finding implies that individuals living at or near St. C are exposed to high concentrations of Alnus pollen before and after March, which is the flowering period of the alder tree. From August to September, individuals living at or near St. B are exposed to high concentrations of Humulus pollen. Our study suggests that Alnus pollen may be the major aeroallergen causing pollinosis in the spring at St. C and Humulus pollen may be the major aeroallergen in autumn at St. B.

시아노아크릴레이트 진공 훈증법에 의한 잠재지문 현출 최적화에 관한 연구 (A study on the optimal conditions for latent fingerprint development using cyanoacrylate fuming method in vacuum chamber)

  • 시아노아크릴레이트 훈증법은 비다공성 표면에 유류된 잠재지문을 현출할 때 효과적이다. 본 연구는, 진공챔버에서 시아노아크릴레이트를 훈증할 때 온도, 습도, 훈증 방법 등이 잠재지문 현출에 미치는 영향을 확인한 후 최적 반응 조건을 찾는데 있다. 진공챔버의 온도가 높을수록 시아노아크릴레이트 증발량은 증가했지만, 지문 융선에서 시아노아크릴레이트의 중합반응은 $30^{\circ}C$에서 가장 잘 일어났다. 상대습도가 40%, 50% 조건에서는 좋은 상태의 지문이 현출되었지만, 30%보다 낮거나 60%보다 높은 조건에서는 지문 융선에서 시아노아크릴레이트 중합반응 속도가 느려졌다. 진공챔버에서 시아노아크릴레이트를 자연적으로 증발시키는 방법보다는 $OMEGA-PRINT^{TM}$ dispersal pads와 수산화나트륨을 포함한 솜을 이용해 시아노아크릴레이트 훈증하는 방법이 효과적이란 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 진공챔버에서 시아노아크릴레이트 처리시간은 상대습도에 비해 큰 영향을 주지 않았다.
