An algorithm for the multi-view image improvement with the restricted number of images in texture extraction (텍스쳐 추출시 제한된 수의 참여 영상을 이용한 multi-view 영상 개선 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-view images coding algorithm which finds the optimal texture from the restricted number of multi-view images. The X-Y plane of the normalized object space is divided into triangular patches. The depth value of the node is determined by applying the block based disparity compensation method and then the texture of the each patch is extracted by applying the affine transformation patch is extracted by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the multi-view images. We restricted the number of images contributed to determining the texture comapred to traditional methods which use all the multi-view images in the texture extraction. Experimental results show that the SNR of images encoded by the proposed algorithm is better than that of imaes encoded by the traditional method by the amount about 0.2dB for the test sets of multi-view images called dragon, kid, city and santa. The recovered images from the encoded data by the proposed method show the better visual images than the recovered images from the encoded data by the traditional methods.

  • In this paper we propose a new method of Depth-Image-Based Rendering (DIBR) for Free-viewpoint TV (FTV). In the proposed method, virtual viewpoint images are rendered with 3D warping instead of estimating the view-dependent depth since depth estimation is usually costly and it is desirable to eliminate it from the rendering process. However, 3D warping causes some problems that do not occur in the method with view-dependent depth estimation; for example, the appearance of holes on the rendered image, and the occurrence of depth discontinuity on the surface of the object at virtual image plane. Depth discontinuity causes artifacts on the rendered image. In this paper, these problems are solved by reconstructing disparity information at virtual camera position from neighboring two real cameras. In the experiments, high quality arbitrary viewpoint images were obtained.

  • The floating image system (FIS) is a device to display input source in the space between fast surface of the display and an observer and it provides pseudo 3D depth to an observer when input source as real object or 2D image was displayed through the optical lens system in the FIS. The Advanced floating image system (AFIS) was designed to give more effective 3D depth than existing FIS by adding front and rear depth cues to the displayed stereogram, which it was used as input source. The magnitude of disparity and size of stereogram were strongly related each other and they have been optimized for presenting 3D depths in a non-optical lens systems. Thus, if they were used in optical lens system, they will have reduced or magnified parameters, leading to problem such as providing incorrect 3D depth cues to an observer. Although the size of stereogram and disparity were demagnified by total magnifying power of optical system, the viewing distance (VD) from the display to an observer and base distance (BD) for the gap between the eyes were fixed. For this reason, the quantity of disparity in displayed stereogram through the existing FIS has not kept the magnifying power to the total optical system. Therefore, we proposed the methods to provide correct 3D depth to an observer by compensating quantity of disparity in stereogram which was satisfied to keep total magnifying power of optical lenses system by AFIS. Consequently, the AFIS provides a good floating depth (pseudo 3D) with correct front and rear 3D depth cues to an observer.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of exhibition circulation through the movement pattern. It looks into the factoers under the influence with the visitor's movement. The method of analysis of investigation by following after visitors. The viewing behavioral of exhibition based on the time, speed, proportion of appreciation is classfied into three types of the profound, the general, the passing viewers. The characteristics of the viewing form of these patterns largely depend on the space elements which are the structure form. And particularly the position of exit, the width of exhibition space and the connection of exhibition space stand out the disparity of the factor of the spatial structure These three patterns bring about a lot of encounter in the exhibition space according to the difference of these routes consequently. So appropriate to the each pattern can offer visitors to more effective environment of exhibition.

  • In this paper, we present a methodology of sensing and control for a robot system designed to be capable of grasping an object and moving it to target point Stereo vision system is employed to determine to depth map which represents the distance from the camera. In stereo vision system we have used a center-referenced projection to represent the discrete match space for stereo correspondence. This center-referenced disparity space contains new occlusion points in addition to the match points which we exploit to create a concise representation of correspondence an occlusion. And from the depth map we find the target object´s pose and position in 3-D space. To find the target object´s pose and position, we use the method of the model-based recognition.

  • A simple stereo matching algorithm using population-based incremental learning(PBIL) is proposed in this paper to decrease the general problem of genetic algorithms, such as memory consumption and inefficiency of search. PBIL is a variation of genetic algorithms using stochastic search and competitive teaming based on a probability vector. The structure of PBIL is simpler than that of other genetic algorithm families, such as serial and parallel ones, due to the use of a probability vector. The PBIL strategy is simplified and adapted for stereo matching circumstances. Thus, gene pool, chromosome crossover, and gene mutation we removed, while the evolution rule, that fitter chromosomes should have higher survival probabilities, is preserved. As a result, memory space is decreased, matching rules are simplified and computation cost is reduced. In addition, a scheme controlling the distance of neighbors for disparity smoothness is inserted to obtain a wide-area consistency of disparities, like a result of coarse-to-fine matchers. Because of this scheme, the proposed algorithm can produce a stable disparity map with a small fixed-size window. Finally, an alterative version of the proposed algorithm without using probability vector is also presented for simpler set-ups.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-view images coding algorithm to find the optimal depth and texture from the set of multi-view images. The proposed algorithm consists of two consecutive steps, i) the depth estraction step, and ii) the texture extraction step, comparedwith the traditional algorithem which finds the depth and texture concurrently. The X-Y plane of the normalized object space is divided into traingular paatches and the Z value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the traingular patches is extracted from the multi-view images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the traingular pateches with the depth extracted from the first step. Experimental results show that the SNR(Singnal-to- Noise Ratio) of images enconded by our algorithm is better than that of images encoded by the traditional algorithm by the amount about 4dB for for the test sets of multi-view images called dragon, kid, city and santa.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient coding algorithm for the zoom images to find the optimal depth and texture information. The proposed algorithm is the area-based method consisting of two consecutive steps, i) the depth extraction step and ii) the texture extraction step. The X-Y plane of the object space is divided into triangular patches and the depth value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block-based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the triangular patches is extracted from the zoom images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the triangular patches with the depth value extracted from the first step. To improve the quality of image, the interpolation is peformed on the object space instead of the interpolation on the image plane.

  • In the closed range space, the parallel two CCD cameras are used to acquire a pair of stereo image. The acquired stereo image are computed with Wavelet Transform repeatedly and including the low frequency component, the image size of those are reduced. It is the pyramid structure. The optimum matching point is searched to the pixel. Then appling the optimum matching point to DLT, it extract the three - dimensional surface coordinate from a stereo image. The direct linear transformation(DLT) method is used to calibrate the stereo camera compute the coordinate on a three dimensional space. To find the parameters for the DLT method, 30 control points which marked on the cylinder type object are used. To improve the matching algorithm, the paper select the pyramid structure for Wavelet Transform. The acquired disparity information is used to represent the really three-dimensional surface coordinate.

An Adjacency Effect in Auditory Distance and Loudness Judgments

  • This study investigated whether the adjacency principle. demonstrated in a perceived visual space, can be applied to auditory space. In order to demonstrate an auditory adjacency principle, multiple sound sources were varied in direction and distance in an acoustically absorbant space. Specifically, a NEAR sound source was located 10° to the left of the listener's midline at a distance of 2 meters; a FAR sound source was located 10° to the right at a distance of 5 meters. These sources served as perceptual reference points with respect to the localization of three test sounds, all at a distance of 3 meters. Two of three test sounds were directionally closer to the NEAR and FAR reference sounds, respectively. The other was between the reference sources directionally. The listener was asked to judge the perceived distances and the loudness of the three test sounds and the two reference sounds. The results indicated that the apparent distances of the test sounds were most determined by the disparity of distance between each test sound and the reference sound most directionally adjacent to it. Therefore, the findings offer evidence that the adjacency principle can be applied to the auditory space.
