The usage of appropriate disinfectants is essential for infection control in dental hospitals, dental clinics. Inadequate use of disinfectants is the cause of human or environmental toxicity and is a waste of cost. This study was aimed to assess the level of knowledge on the disinfection and chemical disinfectants among dental workers in dental hospitals, dental clinics. It's ultimately intended to serve as a basis for the preparation of more effective, appropriate educational programs on the disinfection and manuals on the use of disinfectants for dental workers. This study enforced a questionnaire with 184 dental workers employed in dental hospitals, dental clinics from 15 Aug. to 15 Sep. 2007, in the area of Daejeon. The obtained result were as follows; 1. The population sociological feature of dental hospital and dental clinic showed that significant differences of dental service career(pM0.039). Dental service career of dental workers shows; below 3 years 42.9%, 4~6 years 34.7%, more than 7 years 22.4% in dental hospitals, below 3 years 30.4%, 4~6 years 26.7%, more than 7 years 43.0% in dental clinics(pM0.039). 2. The average score of dental workers knowledge in 'Critical item soaks in high-level disinfectants for 20minutes was 2.73V0.49 point, got from knowledge of dental instrument is appropriate to immerse before sterilization in the dental device disinfection(pM0.002). 3. In the general disinfection which it follows in education experience of chemical disinfectants direction for use, 'Direction for use by Spaulding process classification' responded that the correct answer was the education experience dental workers 60.0%, the education non-experience dental workers 39.5%(p=0.026). 4. In the dental device disinfection which it follows in education experience of chemical disinfectants direction for use. 'High level disinfection is not applied for the non-critical items and equipment' responded that the education experience dental workers 49.2%, the education non-experience dental workers 31.9%(pM0.045), 'Semi-critical items is applied same method in presence of the infection disease which it acts responded that the education experience dental workers 44.6% answer back, the education non-experience dental workers 24.4%(pM0.017). 5. Consequently system and the specialty education which is standardized continuously must be provided to all dental workers.

The purpose of this study was to investigate disinfection state and effective factors of utensils and equipments used to foodservice of elementary schools in Busan area, The questionnaire which was administered to 160 dietitians was used in this study as a survey method. The results were as follows. The disinfection method of tray was mainly used by electric gas. Table and other products of stainless steel sanitized by sodium hypochlorite and hot water, but above 51% of slicer. grinder and peeler were not sanitized after used. The products of wood and plastic also used mainly sodium hypochlorite and hot water as sanitizers. In disinfection time, knife, wood spoon and plastic products should be sanitized on demand, but 30.9~53.5% of this utensils except rice scoop were sanitized on demand that showed deficiency of cognition for sanitation. The disinfection of most of utensils and equipments was conducted every day, but food case, slicer, peeler, grinder and wood spoon showed lower disinfection frequency than other products, The method of disinfection was related to dietitians age and career number of total serving, duration of foodservice and serving place, The disinfection time was also affected by dietitians age and educational level, and serving place. The disinfection frequency was affected by number of employee, number of total serving and duration of foodservice. Therefore based on the results of this study, it should be given to the microbiological study on disinfection method of utensils such as slicer, grinder, peeler, large spoon, plastic prouducts and the dietitians sanitation training also should be conducted continuously.

This study was carried out to compare the growth and yield characteristics between bakanae diseases (Gibberella fujikuroi) infected and uninfected rice plants with different disinfection mothods. The infected rice seeds, harvested previous year, were disinfected either with prochloraz for 48 hours at $33^{\circ}C$ in germinator or 24 hours at room temperature and not disinfected. In the methods of disinfection, it is more effective in disinfected by prochloraz for 48 hours at $33^{\circ}C$ using germinator near to 0% of infection rate, followed by conventional method as 5.0% and 76% in not disinfected rice seeds. In the rice yield components among the disinfection methods, panicles were increased about 11% in the disinfected seeds using germinator for 48 hours compared to conventional method. Ripening grain rate also increased at the disinfected using germinator as $80.3{\sim}80.3%$, improved more than $4.9{\sim}5.9%$ compared to the conventional disinfection. From these results, the rice yield was $512{\sim}517\;kg/1,000\;m^2$ at the disinfected using germinator which increased more than $6{\sim}7%$ compared to the conventional disinfection.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of disinfection using environmental disinfectant after having assessed the extent of contamination through microbial culture testing and the Adenosine Triphosphate Bioluminescence method among the environmental management evaluation methods used for the environment in the hospital ward of patients infected by multidrug-resistant organisms. This study was conducted with the patient wards isolated due to multidrug-resistant organisms as the environmental surface. Specimens were collected from five locations including infusion pumps, IV poles, bedside cabinets, bed railings, keyboards, and blood pressure measurement cuffs. ATP and microbial culture testing were executed prior to, immediately after, and five minutes post-disinfection. According to the result contamination of the infusion pumps was statistically significantly reduced after disinfection. In addition, the bacteria before and after disinfection reduced in IV pole, bed railing, and keyboard. That is, regular environmental surface disinfection can provide safer environments to patients against infection. Therefore, it is necessary to establish guidelines including disinfection methods and intervals for environmental surfaces by evaluating the persistence of disinfectants at various institutions in the future.

The chlorination of municipal drinking water supplies leads to the formation of so-called disinfection by-products(DBPs), many of which have been reported to cause harmful health effects based on animal studies. This study was conducted: 1) to observe seasonal changes in the major DBPs at four sampling sites on a drinking water distribution system located in Chunchon, Kangwon Do; and 2) to examine the effects of major water quality parameters on the formation of DBPs. During the field sampling, the water temperature, pH, and total and free chlorine residuals were all measured. The water samples were then analyzed for total organic carbon(TOC) and eight disinfection by-products in the laboratory. Chloroform, dichloroacetic acid, and trichloroacetic acid were the major constituents of the measured DBPs. The concentrations of the total DBPs were highest in fall, particularly in October, and lowest in summer. The concentrations of the total DBPs increased with increasing TOC concentrations. Multiple regression analyses showed that the concentrations of chloroform, bromodichloromethane, and chloral hydrate were linearly correlated with the pH. Other water parameters were not included in the regression equations. Accordingly, these results suggest that TOC and pH are both important factors in the formation of DBPs.

A number of factors combine to make ultraviolet radiation a superior means of water purification for ground water, rainwater harvesting systems and so on. Ultraviolet radiation is capable of destroying all types of bacteria. Additionally, ultraviolet radiation disinfects rapidly without the use of heat or chemical additives which may undesirably alter the composition of water. In a typical operation, water enters the inlet of a UV lamp and flows through the annular space between the quartz sleeve and the outside chamber wall. The irradiated water leaves through the outlet nozzle. Several design features are combined to determine the dosage delivered. The first is Wavelength output of the lamp, the Second is Length of the lamp - when the lamp is mounted parallel to the direction of water flow, the exposure time is proportional to the length of the lamp, the third is Design water flow rate - exposure time is inversely related to the linear flow rate, the forth is Diameter of the purification chamber - since the water itself absorbs UV energy, the delivered dosage diminishes logarithmically with the distance from the lamp. In this paper, It describe the how to design optimal UV disinfection device for ground water and rainwater. To search the optimal design method, it was performed computer simulation with 3D-CFD discrete ordinates model and manufactured prototype. Using proposed design method manufactured prototype applied to disinfection test and proved satisfied performance.
The effect of ozone on the formation and the removal of disinfection byproducts(DBPs) of chlorination process was studied to elucidate the performance of water treatment process. The samples of raw water, prechlorination process, and preozonation process were analyzed quantitatively according to the Standard Methods for the Examination of drinking water. As a result, most of total trihalomethanes(THMs) which were formed in prechlorine treatment process was not removed in the preozonation process. Most of haloacetic acids(HAAs), haloacetonitriles(HANs), and chloral hydrate(CH) was removed in sedimentation and biological activated carbon(BAC) filtration processes. However, DBPs were increased more or less by postchlorine step. In particular, the formation of THMs and HAAs depends on ozone more than chlorine, but, the formation of HANs and CH depends on chlorine more than ozone. The seasonal variation of DBPs concentration for the year needs to be investigated to study the temperature effect because DBPs strongly depend on temperature among various efficient factors.
It was conducted to find out the effect of chemical treatment on seed tubers and soil to control potato common scab in Jeju Island in 2001. Although the treatment of soil disinfection with Dazomet Gr. (30kg/10a) was more effective comparing to the treatment of seed disinfection and the untreated, the control value was merely 40.5%. However, the combined treatment of soil and seed disinfection was considerably more effective to reduce the percentage of infection and infection area, and increase the production of marketable tubers and also increase the control value. Therefore, the combined treatments are demanded to reduce the scab incidence in Jeju field conditions.
The use of fumigation of Neo-PPS was tested for the larval disinfection and at the same time for easy handling and effective chemicals for larval disinfection. The results obtained are as follows: 1. There was no decrease of cocoon yield in spring season due to chemical damage by application of Neo-PPS fumigation to the disinfection of the silkworm except 2,4 and 6 hours' treatment everyday and 6 hours'/ twice/instar treatment as compared with the control. 2. There was no significance in pupal percent between treatments and control in spring season except 6 hours' treatment everyday. 3. No chemical damage seemed to give rise to percentage of cocoon shell in all treatments.
We searched at the "PubMed.gov" and "jendodon.com" sites to conduct a literature review on dental instruments that are reused in clinical settings and on infection control involving pre-disinfection or sterilization cleaning/rinsing. The keyword "dental clean" was used for the Web search. We found the present official definition of instrument cleaning performed prior to disinfection or sterilization rather limiting ("removal of foreign matter (soil, organism, etc.) from the instruments"). Thus, we proposed to expand the definition to include the removal of oils applied to protect the metallic instruments and from corrosion, stains, and rust resulting from the frequent reuse of the instruments. Clinicians are found to clean their dental instruments (a) immediately after treating their patients or (b) following their treatment but not immediately afterward. In the latter case, we recommend presoaking to be added. Ultrasonic sterilization of 5~15 minutes is found to be more effective in terms of eliminating residual matter from the instruments compared to other methods. To check on the cleaning results, we recommend visual inspection, which can be quick and practical in clinical settings. The latest products being developed and marketed on the market address the related problems. Nonetheless, research must be continued on the effects of presoak, cleaning/rinsing, disinfection, and high-temperature or heating-based sterilization on the dental instruments and on dental clinicians' practices in cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. We advise dental clinicians to select the proper cleaning methods and detergents for their instruments to help eliminate or prevent corrosion, staining, and rusting, to reduce the maintenance costs, and to ensure user-friendly instruments/apparatuses.
