It was reported recently that railpads can be included as a continuous elastic support of the rail and the model was justified from experiments. In general, however, railpads are installed discretely on sleepers with a regular span. The effect of the discrete railpad was not clearly examined so far in such a high frequency range. In this paper, the effect of the railpads in track modelling for high frequencies is investigated by means of the finite element analysis. To do that, the railpads are regarded as 'a continuous elastic support' and 'a discrete elastic support' in this paper. The dispersion relations and decaying features are predicted and compared between the two models up to 80 kHz.
Proposed in the paper is an agent based and object-oriented methodology to create a virtual logistics support system model. The proposed virtual logistics support system model consists of three types of objects: the logistics force agent model(static model), the military supplies transport manager model(function model), the military supplies state manager model(dynamic model). A logistic force agent model consists of two agent: main function agent and function agent. To improve the reusability and composability of a logistics force agent model, the function agent is designed to adapt to different logistics force agent configuration. A military supplies transport manager is agent that get information about supply route, make decisions based on decision variables, which are maintained by the military supplies state manager, and transport military supplies. A military supplies state manager is requested military supplies from logistics force agent, provide decision variables such as the capacity, order of priority. For the implementation of the proposed virtual logistics force agent model, this paper employs Discrete Event Systems Specification(DEVS) formalism.

Identifying clinical pathways for disease diagnosis and treatment process recommendations are seriously decision-intensive tasks for health care practitioners. It requires them to rely on their expertise and experience to analyze various categories of health parameters from a health record to arrive at a decision in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations to the end user (patient). Technological adaptation in the area of medical diagnosis using AI is dispensable; using expert systems to assist health care practitioners in decision-making is becoming increasingly popular. Our work architects a novel knowledge-based recommender system model, an expert system that can bring adaptability and transparency in usage, provide in-depth analysis of a patient's medical record, and prescribe diagnostic results and treatment process recommendations to them. The proposed system uses a set of parallel discrete fuzzy rule-based classifier systems, with each of them providing recommended sub-outcomes of discrete medical conditions. A novel knowledge-based combiner unit extracts significant relationships between the sub-outcomes of discrete fuzzy rule-based classifier systems to provide holistic outcomes and solutions for clinical decision support. The work establishes a model to address disease diagnosis and treatment recommendations for primary lung disease issues. In this paper, we provide some samples to demonstrate the usage of the system, and the results from the system show excellent correlation with expert assessments.

When it comes to design and acquire underwater vehicles such as a submarine and a torpedo according to the process of SBA(Simulation Based Acquisition)/SBD(Simulation Based Design), it is necessary to predict the performance of interest precisely and to perform the test over and over again using the M&S(Modeling and Simulation) of the engineering and the engagement level. In this paper, we research the DEVS(Discrete Event System Specification) and DTSS(Discrete Time System Specification) formalism based standard model architecture for the underwater vehicle which can support both the heterogeneous level of the M&S(Engineering/Engagement) and the different system of the M&S(Discrete Event System and Discrete Time System). To validate this standard modeling architecture, we apply it to the submarine normal diving simulation.
Discrete event modeling is finding ever more application to anlysis and design of complex manufacturing, communication, computer systems, etc. This paper shows how packet network systems may be advantageously represented as DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) models by employing System Entity structure / Model base (SES/MB) framework developed by Zeigler. DEVS models and network structure representations support a strong basis for performance analysis of packet network systems. This approach is illustated in a typical packet network example with several routing strategies.

Simulation applications for analyzing the productivity of construction operations at operation level and project schedules at project level are crucial methods in project management. The application at two different levels should be very tightly linked to each other in practice. However, appropriate integration at the levels is not achieved in that existing systems do not support to integrate operation models into a schedule model. This paper presents a new approach named to Discrete Event Simulation-Nesting modeling approach, which supports not only productivity analysis at operation level but also schedule management at a project level. The system developed by the authors allows creating operation models at the operation level, maintaining them in operation model library, executing sensitivity analysis to find the behaviors of the operation models when different combination of resources are used as existing DES systems do. On top of the conventional functions, the new system facilitates to find the optimum solution of resource combinations which satisfy the user's interest by computing the hourly productivity and the hourly cost of the operation. By drag-and-dropping an operation model kept in the operation model library, the operation models are integrated into an activity of the schedule model. When a complete schedule model is established by nesting operation models into the schedule model, stochastic simulation based scheduling is executed. A case study is presented to demonstrate the new simulation system and verify the validity of the system.

It is well known that if usage parameter control/network parameter control (UPC/NPC) functions are used together with a cell loss priority control scheme in ATM networks, the measurement phasing problem can occur. This makes it difficult for a network provider to define and commit the cell loss ratio as a QoS parameter. To solve the problem, we propose a new UPC/NPC algorithm. By using the proposed UPC/NPC algorithm, we can define the cell loss ratios for CLP = 0 and CLP = 0+1 cell streams without the measurement phasing problem under any conditions. We analyzed the performance of the proposed UPC/NPC algorithm. Using a discrete time model for the UPC/NPC architecture with a discrete-time semi-Markov process (DSMP) input model, we obtained the cell discarding probabilities of CLP = 0 and CLP = 0+1 cells streams and showed that more CLP = 0 cells are accepted compared to what was proposed in ITU-T.
This paper, as a study for the serviceability design of railway bridges with concrete track, presents the effects of design parameters of tracks and bridges on the forces acting on the rail supports of the track. To calculate the forces acting on the track, an unequal spacing discrete supported model with different spacing of rail supports was induced. Design parameters are the rail support spacing of expansion joints above abutments or piers of bridges, the distance from the support of a girder to the last rail support on the end of the girder, and the number of additional rail supports. The causes of the displacement of track are axial force, unit vertical displacement, and unit rotation. From the analysis, the maximum compressive force and the maximum uplifting force acting on the rail supports were determined and the effects of the rail support spacing on the forces acting on the track were presented.
The major objective of this paper is to propose a hybrid simulation environment for autonomous UAV system by integrating the continuous-time model with discrete-event model. Proposed system is able to support high autonomous behavior by combining the planner, recognizer, and controller model to deal with the HL20 AIRPLANE model. Thus, the high level decision may be efficiently issued even upon the unexpected circumstance. The proposed system model has been successfully verified by several simulation test performed on the DEVS simulation S/W environment.
If it takes much time to calculate the fitness of the solution in genetic algorithms, it is essential to create a metamodel. Much research has been completed to improve the performance of metamodels. In this study, we tried to get a better performance of metamotel using discrete Walsh transform in discrete domain. We transforms the basis of the solution and creates a metamodel using the transformed solution. We experimented with NK-landscape, a representative function of the pseudo-boolean function, and provided empirical evidence on the performance of the proposed model. When we performed the genetic algorithm using the proposed model, we confirmed that the genetic algorithm found a better solution. In particular, our metamodel showed better performance than that using the radial basis function network that modified the similarity function for the discrete domain.
