This study deals with the case of student-centered discrete mathematics class with cyber lab. First, we provided lecture notes and cyber labs we developed. In particular, discrete mathematics is a course that covers the principles of algorithms. The purpose of this study is to provide students with basic mathematics, aiming to actively participate in the learning process, to improve their abilities and to reach the ultimate goal of student success with confidence. Second, based on interactions, students were able to prepare for the lectures, review, question, answer, and discussion through an usual learning management system of the school. Third, all the students generated materials through one semester, which were reported, submitted, presented and evaluated. It was possible to improve the learning effectiveness through the discussions and implementation of using some easy open source programming language and codes. Our discrete math laboratory could be practiced without any special knowledge of coding. These lecture models allow students to develop critical thinking skills while describing and presenting their learning and problem-solving processes. We share our experience and our materials including lecture note and cyber lab as well as a possible model of student-centered mathematics class that does not give too much of work load for instructors. This study shares a model that demonstrates that any professor will be able to have an individualized, customized, and creative discrete education without spending much of extra time and assistant, unlike previous research.

Inverters are considered the basic building blocks of industrial electrical drive systems that are widely used for various applications; however, the failure of electronic switches mainly affects the constancy of these inverters. For safe and reliable operation of an electrical drive system, faults in power electronic switches must be detected by an efficient system that is capable of identifying the type of faults. In this paper, an open switch fault identification technique for a three-phase inverter is presented. Single, double, and triple switching faults can be diagnosed using this method. The detection mechanism is based on stator current analysis. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) using Daubechies is performed on the Clarke transformed (-) stator current and features are extracted from the wavelets. An artificial neural network is then used for the detection and identification of faults. To prove the feasibility of this method, a Simulink model of the DWT-based feature extraction scheme using a neural network for the proposed fault detection system in a three-phase inverter with an induction motor is briefly discussed with simulation results. The simulation results show that the designed system can detect faults quite efficiently, with the ability to differentiate between single and multiple switching faults.

Weapon systems composed of several subsystems execute various engagement missions in distributed combat environments in cooperation with a large number of subordinate/adjacent weapon systems as well as higher echelons through tactical data links. Such distributed weapon systems require distributed real-time simulation test beds to integrate and test their operational software, analyze their performance and effects of cooperated engagement, and validate their requirement specifications. These demands present significant challenges in terms of real-time constraints, time synchronization, complexity and development cost of an engagement simulation test bed, thus necessitate the use of high-performance distributed real-time simulation architectures, and modeling and simulation techniques. In this paper, in order to meet these demands, we presented a distributed real-time simulation system based on High Level Architecture(HLA) and Discrete Event System Specification(DEVS). We validated its performance by using it as a test bed for developing the Engagement Control System(ECS) of a surface-to-air missile system. The proposed technique can be employed to design a prototype or model of engagement-level distributed real-time simulation systems.

An approximate representation of discrete functions {f$_{i,j}\mid$|i, j=-1, 0, 1, …, N+1}in two variables by a fuzzy system is described. We use the cubic B-splines as fuzzy sets for the input fuzzification and spike functions as the output fuzzy sets. The ordinal number of f$_{i,j}$ in the sorted list is taken to be the out put fuzzy set number in the (i, j) th entry of the fuzzy rule table. We show that the fuzzy system is an exact representation of the cubic spline function s(x, y)=$\sum_{N+1}^{{i,j}=-1}f_{i,j}B_i(x)B_j(y)$ and that the approximation error S(x, y)-f(x, y) is surprisingly O($h^2$) when f(x, y) is three times continuously differentiable. We prove that when f(x, y) is a gray scale image, then the fuzzy system is a smoothed representation of the image and the original image can be recovered exactly from its fuzzy system representation when it is a digitized image.e.

In this paper, a novel low-power VLSI system architecture was proposed. By exploiting software control of supply voltages, it simplifies hardware implementation, reduces power consumption efficiently, and avoids complicated interface circuits. The proposed architecture models clock frequency-supply voltage relationship by software modelling, enables individual control of supply voltages for all chips in the system, and restricts clock frequency to discrete levels of $f_{CLK}$, $f_{CLK}$2, $f_{CLK}$3... where $f_{CLK}$ is the master clock frequency A prototype system was implemented by modifying off-the-shelf microprocessor evaluation board and adding simple discrete devices such as level shifters and voltage switches. It was measured that the power consumption was reduced from 0.58W to 0.12W in the Prototype system. system.

A method of designing a state feedback gam achieving a specified insensitivity of the closed-loop trajectory by the singularly perturbed unified system using the operators is proposed. The order of system is reduced by the singular perturbation technique by ignoring the fast mode in it. The proposed method takes care of the actual trajectory variations over the range of the singular perturbation parameter. Necessary conditions for optimality are also derived. The previous study was done in the continuous time system The present paper extends the previous study to the discrete system and the ${\delta}-operating$ system that unifies the continuous and discrete systems. Advantages of the proposed method are shown in the numerical example.
The major objective of this paper is to propose a hybrid simulation environment for autonomous UAV system by integrating the continuous-time model with discrete-event model. Proposed system is able to support high autonomous behavior by combining the planner, recognizer, and controller model to deal with the HL20 AIRPLANE model. Thus, the high level decision may be efficiently issued even upon the unexpected circumstance. The proposed system model has been successfully verified by several simulation test performed on the DEVS simulation S/W environment.
In this paper, the authors propose a system for assisting mold designers of plastic parts. With a CAD model of a part, the system automatically determines the optimal ejecting direction of the part with minimum undercuts. Since plastic parts are generally very thin, many rib features are placed on the inner side of the part to give sufficient structural strength. Our system extracts the rib features from the CAD model of the part, and determines the possible ejecting directions based on the geometric properties of the features. The system then selects the optimal direction with minimum undercuts. Possible ejecting directions are represented as discrete points on a Gauss map. Our new point distribution method for the Gauss map is based on the concept of the architectural geodesic dome. A hierarchical structure is also introduced in the point distribution, with a higher level "rough" Gauss map with rather sparse point distribution and another lower level "fine" Gauss map with much denser point distribution. A system is implemented and computational experiments are performed. Our system requires less than 10 seconds to determine the optimal ejecting direction of a CAD model with more than 1 million polygons.
Sounds based machine fault diagnosis recovers all the studies that aim to detect automatically faults or damages on machines using the sounds emitted by these machines. Conventional methods that use mathematical models have been found inaccurate because of the complexity of the industry machinery systems and the obvious existence of nonlinear factors such as noises. Therefore, any fault diagnosis issue can be treated as a pattern recognition problem. We present here an automatic fault diagnosis system of hand drills using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and pattern recognition techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and artificial neural networks (ANN). The diagnosis system consists of three steps. Because of the presence of many noisy patterns in our signals, we first conduct a filtering analysis based on DWT. Second, the wavelet coefficients of the filtered signals are extracted as our features for the pattern recognition part. Third, PCA is performed over the wavelet coefficients in order to reduce the dimensionality of the feature vectors. Finally, the very first principal components are used as the inputs of an ANN based classifier to detect the wear on the drills. The results show that the proposed DWT-PCA-ANN method can be used for the sounds based automated diagnosis system.
This paper presents a robust watermarking approach that the frequency coefficients of the binary logo image are inserted in the DC and each frequency area of the host image for copyright protection of image data. We use the 1 level discrete wavelet transform(DWT) coefficients of 64*64 binary logo image as watermark because the presentation of a recognizable mark is much more convincing than numerical values and allows the opportunity to exploit the human visual system's ability to recognize a pattern. The proposed method makes use of 1-level DWT of the logo image, the DWT coefficients of the logo image are inserted by human visual system(HVS) and region of interest(ROI) in the frequency domain of the host image. Thereby, the detected logo image confirms copyright. Because small size watermark is inserted by HVS and ROI, the results confirm the superiority of the Proposed method on invisibility and robustness.
