  • The tactical employment is a critical factor to win the war in the modern battlefield. To apply optimized tactics, it needs analyses related to a battle system. Normally, M&S (Modeling & Simulation) has been studied to analyze data in general problems. However, this method is not suitable for military simulations because there are many variables which make complex interaction in the system. For this reason, we suggested the optimized simulation framework based on the M&S by using DPSO (Discrete binary version of PSO) algorithm. This optimized simulation framework makes the best tactical employment to reduce the searching time compared with the normal M&S used by Monte Carlo search method. This paper shows an example to find the best combination of anti-torpedo scenario in a short searching time. From the simulation example, the optimized simulation framework presents the effectiveness.

  • Localized failure analysis of concrete structures can be carried out effectively by modeling fracture process zone of concrete during crack initiation and propagation. But, the analysis techniques are still insufficient for crack modeling because of difficulties in numerical analysis procedure which describe progressive crack. In this paper, a finite element with embedded displacement discontinuity is introduced to remove the difficulties of remeshing for crack propagation in discrete crack model during progressive failure analysis of concrete structures. The performance of this so-called embedded crack approach for concrete failure analysis is verified by several analysis examples. The analysis results show that the embedded crack approach retains mesh size objectivity and can simulate localized failure under mixed mode loading. It can be concluded that the embedded crack approach cab be an effective alternate to the smeared and discrete crack approaches.

  • The mathematical interpretation of a practical sampler which is useful to obtain the small signal models for the peak and average current mode controls is proposed. Due to the difficulties in applying the Shannons sampling theorem to the analysis of sampling effects embedded in the current mode control, several different approaches have been reported. However, these approaches require the information of the inductor current in a discrete expression, which restricts the application of the reported method only to the peak current mode control. In this paper, the mathematical expressions of sampling effects on a current loop which can directly apply the Shannons sampling theorem are newly proposed, and applied to the modeling of the peak current mode control. By the newly derived models of a practial smapler, the models in a discrete time domain and a continuous time domain are obtained. It is expected that the derived models are useful for the control loop design of power supplies. The effectiveness of the derived models are verified through the simulation and experimental results.

  • This study presents a new method of system modeling by using the Discrete Fourier Transform for the position control system of DC Motor. And the proposed method is similar to the method of System Identification by analysis of correlation of the measured input-output data. The measured output signals are transformed to the frequency domain using DFT. The Fourier Spectrum of the transformed signals is used for knowing to the feature of having an important effect on the system. And transfer function of the second order system is estimated by the dominant parameter which is computed in the magnitude and the phase of Fourier spectrum of the transformed signals. In addition, the output signal includes the unique feature of system. So, although the basic parameter of the system is unknown for us, the proposed method has an advantage to system modeling. And the controller is easily designed by the estimated transfer function. Thus, in this paper, the proposed method is applied to the system modeling for the position control system of DC Motor and the PD-controller is designed by the estimated model. And the efficiency and the reliability of the proposed method are verified by the experimental result.

  • Task based modeling is essential in a construction operation simulation modeling. It allows dealing with local variables or delay factors that affect productivity and improves the reusability of existing operation models. An operation model can secure reality only if it reflects the real construction processes by effectively dealing with zoning issue. However, system users have some difficulties in modeling a construction operation that is consisted of several processes having different production units. Zoning is a major modeling issue when the task based modeling method is implemented using the existing discrete event simulation systems. This paper highlights the difficulty and presents a new method that complements the zoning issues attributed to different production units. The method is described in detail by presenting the flow of entities. It is confirmed that the zoning method effectively deals with the unbalance of production units between processes and facilitates to model an operation model having processes with different production units. The "Zoning module" contributes to increasing accuracy of simulation result.

  • In this talk, a reduced-order modeling methodology based on centroidal Voronoi tessellations (CVT's)is introduced. CVT's are special Voronoi tessellations for which the generators of the Voronoi diagram are also the centers of mass (means) of the corresponding Voronoi cells. The discrete data sets, CVT's are closely related to the h-means clustering techniques. Even with the use of good mesh generators, discretization schemes, and solution algorithms, the computational simulation of complex, turbulent, or chaotic systems still remains a formidable endeavor. For example, typical finite element codes may require many thousands of degrees of freedom for the accurate simulation of fluid flows. The situation is even worse for optimization problems for which multiple solutions of the complex state system are usually required or in feedback control problems for which real-time solutions of the complex state system are needed. There hava been many studies devoted to the development, testing, and use of reduced-order models for complex systems such as unsteady fluid flows. The types of reduced-ordered models that we study are those attempt to determine accurate approximate solutions of a complex system using very few degrees of freedom. To do so, such models have to use basis functions that are in some way intimately connected to the problem being approximated. Once a very low-dimensional reduced basis has been determined, one can employ it to solve the complex system by applying, e.g., a Galerkin method. In general, reduced bases are globally supported so that the discrete systems are dense; however, if the reduced basis is of very low dimension, one does not care about the lack of sparsity in the discrete system. A discussion of reduced-ordering modeling for complex systems such as fluid flows is given to provide a context for the application of reduced-order bases. Then, detailed descriptions of CVT-based reduced-order bases and how they can be constructed of complex systems are given. Subsequently, some concrete incompressible flow examples are used to illustrate the construction and use of CVT-based reduced-order bases. The CVT-based reduced-order modeling methodology is shown to be effective for these examples and is also shown to be inexpensive to apply compared to other reduced-order methods.

  • Discrete Element Method was conducted for rock and coarse-grained materials in development of granular mechanics and related numerical model due to analyze and apply micromechanical property. And it was verified that the analysis to consider bonding effect was insufficient. In this study, to overcome limits of existing method, it was conducted to analyze difference between indoor test result and bonding effect using $PFC^{3D)}$. For indoor test of mixed soil, uniaxial compression tests by curing time and by cement content were performed. And, DEM to suitable for each condition of indoor test was conducted. In the result of this study, in terms of geotechnics, it was verified that DEM can be used for application as numerical laboratory as well as prediction of micro and macro behavior about bonding effect of mixed soil.

  • This thesis presents a analysis method of hybrid synthesis petri net for automated manufacturing systems in discrete event dynamic system. There are many errors that can happen to petri net modeling of complex systems because petri net modeling process has so many steps. A new matrix analysis method presented in this thesis can confirm the property of petri net such as boundedness, liveness and reversibility, modify errors which can be occurred in modeling.

  • This paper considers a modeling for the MIMO magnetic bearing system. The rotor is flexible and has a complex shape. To obtain the nominal plant transfer functions, we perform a numerical analysis by using the finite element method(F.E.M.) for the rotor's dynamics, and make a nominal model by reducing the modes from the results. And, we have experimented on the frequency response by a closed-loop identification method, and compared it with the simulation's result on the closed-loop control system.
