To investigate the effects of "sudden change" of wind fluctuations on vehicle running performance, which is caused by the artificial discrete simulation of wind field, a three-dimensional vehicle model is set up with multi-body dynamics theory and the vehicle dynamic responses in crosswind conditions are obtained in time domain. Based on Hilbert Huang Transform, the effects of simulation separations on time-frequency characteristics of wind field are discussed. In addition, the probability density distribution of "sudden change" of wind fluctuations is displayed, addressing the effects of simulation separation, mean wind speed and vehicle speed on the "sudden change" of wind fluctuations. The "sudden change" of vehicle dynamic responses, which is due to the discontinuity of wind fluctuations on moving vehicle, is also analyzed. With Principal Component Analysis, the comprehensive evaluation of vehicle running performance in crosswind conditions at different simulation separations of wind field is investigated. The results demonstrate that the artificial discrete simulation of wind field often causes "sudden change" in the wind fluctuations and the corresponding vehicle dynamic responses are noticeably affected. It provides a theoretical foundation for the choice of a suitable simulation separation of wind field in engineering application.
For the purpose of clarifying the influence of welding residual stress to the fatigue crack propagations behaviour, an analytical investigation based on finite element method is performed to examine the opening behaviour of tip-closed crack in the compressive residual stress. A finite element model comprised of contact elements for the crack plane and plane stress elements for the base material is used to evaluate crack opening stress of the crack existing in the residual stress field. Also an analytical method based on the superposition principle to estimate the length of opened part of tip closed crack and the stress distribution adjacent to the crack during uploading is applied to the finite element model. The software for the analysis is ABAQUS, which is a general purpose finite element package. The results show that stresses distributed on the crack surfaces are reduced and approached to zero as the applied stresses are increased up to crack tip opening stress and no mechanical discontinuity is found at the boundary of contact elements and plane stress elements. It is verified that the opening behavior of the fatigue crack in the residual stress can be predicted by finite element method with the proposed analytical method.

Forty-four cases of developmental salivary gland defects in 43 patients were analysed radiologically. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. It occurred more frequently in males(86 %) than in females(14 %). The age distribution of patients ranged from 20 to 74 years with the average being 52.7 years. 2. All but one were located between the angle of the mandible and the molar tooth. Only one patient showed bilateral occurrence. 3. The shape of the defect was ovoid(15 cases), round(10 cases), or half-ovoid(5 cases) 4. Their size ranged from 5 x 6 mm to 16 x 30 mm with the average around 9 x 14 mm. 5. Twenty-eight cases appeared to be surrounded partially(1/3 - 2/3) by a hyperostotic border. The thickness of the hyperostotic border varied ; thick(14 cases), moderate(l1 cases), thin(9 cases), or mixed(6 cases) 6. Thirteen cases were in contact with the superior border of the mandibular inferior cortex, 11 cases partially eroded the cortical plate, and 7 cases showed discontinuity of the mandibular inferior cortex. 7. Twenty-three cases were located below the mandibular canal, 13 cases overlapped the mandibular canal, and 2 cases showed slight deviation of the mandibular canal.
We present a direct simulation technique for two-dimensional mold-filling simulations of fluids filled with a large number of circular disk-like rigid particles. It is a direct simulation in that the hydrodynamic interaction between particles and fluid is fully considered. We employ a pseudo-concentration method for the evolution of the flow front and the DLM (distributed Lagrangian multipliers)-like fictitious domain method for the implicit treatment of the hydrodynamic interaction. Both methods allow the use of a fixed regular discretization during the entire computation. The discontinuous Galerkin method has been used to solve the concentration evolution equation and the rigid-ring description has been introduced for freely suspended particles. A buffer zone, the gate region of a finite area subject to the uniform velocity profile, has been introduced to put discrete particles into the computational domain avoiding any artificial discontinuity. From example problems of 450 particles, we investigated the particle motion and effects of particles on the flow for both Newtonian and shear-thinning fluid media. We report the prolonged particle movement toward the wall in case of a shear-thinning fluid, which has been interpreted with the shear rate distribution.

In this case, powerfulness quorum of destruction side which we have expected are supposed general limit value for rock floor when retaining of earth on the section of rock floor in the urban area. For digging in the urban area, there are a lot of dislocations to be disadvantage for safety of digging ants. The displacement of the pondside didn't converged with the phase of the excavation. Also, the speed of displacement got higher than the percentages of risk in the construction. So, we put into operation Face mapping for checking special quality of dislocations which appear on the digging ants. This results were used to decide a destruction in the case of the final excavation by analyzing with other results. It was possible to know the unstable distribution of a fault line in Face Mapping and to get powerful lens of a surface of discontinuity by tests indoors and outdoors. The results were also used to make a solution. Therefore, It's a successful example using the Partial TopDown for stable digging. And it is important that Face Mapping have to be practiced for solving the uncertainty of ground organization when digging design in the urban city.
This paper deals with the development of variable-node element and its application to the adaptive h-version mesh refinement-recovery for the incompressible viscous flow analysis. The element which has variable mid-side nodes can be used in generating the transition zone between the refined and unrefined element and efficiently used for the construction of a refined mesh without generating distorted elements. A modified Guassian quadrature is needed to evaluate the element matrices due to the discontinuity of derivatives of the shape functions used for the element. The penalty function method which can reduce the number of the independent variables is adopted for the purpose of computational efficiency and the selective reduced integration is carried out for the convection and pressure terms to preserve the stability of solution. For the economical analysis of transient problems in which the locations to be refined are changed in accordance with the dynamic distribution of velocity gradient, not only the mesh refinement but also the mesh recovery is needed. The numerical examples show that the optimal mesh for the finite element analysis of a wind around the structures can be obtained automatically by the proposed scheme.

Hotels drive the growth and development of tourism. Despite their important role, many hotels are small and medium-sized firms (SME) that are struggling to survive against fierce competition. Experts agree that strategic planning is vital for SME survival, but it is not wholly applicable for SME managers. Meanwhile, Mintzberg's concept of crafting strategy offers a more productive insight into SME strategic planning, but its abstract nature has historically discouraged empirical research on its practical benefits. This study will be the first to empirically explore the operationalization of Mintzberg's crafting strategy characteristics, and analyze its influence on organizational learning using structural equation model. Using a sample of 50 hotels in Bali, Indonesia, this study reveals that managing pattern and stability, detecting discontinuity, and knowing the business have a positive but weak effect, whereas reconciling change and continuity proves to have a positive and significantly strong effect on organizational learning. This study has bridged the gap between the abstract concepts of crafting strategy, which is a potentially better approach for SMEs, with daily operational practices. This study also proves that Mintzberg's approach can be used to predict organizational learning. This relationship is crucial since previous studies concluded that organizational learning improves company performance.
The qualitative distribution of a fractured aquifer was characterized by electrical resistivity surveying as a part of basic groundwater investigation in Jangseong. The results were then used to choose sites for observation wells. The locations and distributions of permeable discontinuities were studied by analyses of temperature logs, a borehole image-processing system (BIPS), and hydraulic pressure testing using a double packer. The pressure test showed that the size of the discontinuities correlated with the Lugeon value and the results of the temperature log. The results show that temperature measurement is an effective method to identify permeable discontinuities, with the temperature difference correlating with the size of the aperture of the discontinuity.

The purpose of this paper is to make a close inquiry into the relationship between width and length of crack as a method to maximize compensation effect by grouting discontinuity within weak bedrock, together with emphasis on application of the basic data to the reformation of weak bedrock in a construction site. The result reveals that the length of trace at each fracture averages $1.5{\sim}3.0mm$. Based on analysis of openness distribution pattern at each fracture, the estimated values are quite well in agreement with those of the experiment, with a negative trend in the distribution of aperture width.

In this paper, we propose a new post-processing method which can solve a problem of MSDS(Mean Squared Difference of Slope) method. Using that method the blocking artifacts can significantly be reduced without any restriction, which is a major drawback of block-based DCT compression method. In this approach, the OSLD(Overlapped Sub-Laplacian Distribution) of dequantized block boundary pixel difference values is defined and used to categorize each block of an image into one of four types. Those types are also classified into one of two classes: an edge and a non-edge classes. A slope across the block boundary is used to quantify discontinuity of the image. If an absolute estimated quantization error value of a DCT coefficient is greater than the corresponding quantization step size, it is saturated to the step size in the edge class. The proposed post-processing method can improve not only the PSNR value up to 0.1~O.3 dB but visual quality without any constraints determined by ad-hoc manner.
