  • High voltage induction motors are widely used in industrial factory because have many benefits. But the insulated materials of induction motor are aged by using time, electrical, thermal, circumstantial stresses and so on. Motor failures are occurred by these deterioration phenomena and give rise economic problems to user. In many motor failures, insulated material problems of stator winding happen frequently and occupy high percentages in the failure source. In this paper, the testing specimen(motorette) is manufactured by modeling of stator winding of high voltage induction motor and accelerating test is carried out. Partial discharge signals detected by RF sensor are used to analyze deterioration condition of stator windings. According to aging time, the 3D ( ${\Phi}$-Q-N) distribution and skewness of partial discharge signals are changed.

  • Analysis of the partial discharge signal, a technique to diagnose the stator winding insulation is a key function for the diagnosis of high voltage rotating machines and requires high precision. To satisfy this requirement, various denoising techniques such as filtering and differential methods were proposed. However, these techniques can not eliminate a adjacent induction noise that decreases reliability of the diagnosis. A simple novel denoising algorithm, therefore, is proposed for removing the adjacent induction noise in this paper. The algorithm shows good performance in the real partial discharge signals measured by 13kV class capacitive couplers installed at hydro-generator in Dae-cheong Dam.

  • The winding insulation of low-voltage induction motors in adjustable-speed drive system with voltage-fed Inverters is substantially stressed due to the uneven voltage distribution and excessive voltage stress (dv/dt), which result in the premature insulation breakdown In this paper, the detailed insulation test results of 26 low-voltage induction motors are presented. Six different types of insulation techniques are applied to 26 motors. The insulation characteristics are analyzed with partial discharge, discharge inception voltage, AC current, and dissipation factor tests Also, insulation breakdown tests by high voltage pulses are performed, and the corresponding breakdown voltages obtained.

  • Fluorescent induction lamps are assembly of a Low Pressure Mercury discharge vessel and an inductive power coupler. A vessel containing at least a Low Pressure Mercury vapor, which will be energized by means of the Inductive Coupler. The Ultra Violet radiation from the resulting discharge is converted by a layer of fluorescent material into visible light. The discharge vessel may have means of mechanical fixation to position it to the Inductive power coupler. The component to transform High Frequency electrical energy, by means of induction, in order to energize the Low Pressure Mercury in the discharge vessel. The component includes electrical connection. Fluorescent induction lamps don't have international standards yet. So we try to correspond Korea standards to international standards.

  • This paper presents an on-line diagnosis system for identifying health and faulted conditions in squirrel-cage induction motors using stator current, temperature, and partial discharge signals. The proposed diagnosis system can diagnose induction motor faults such as broken rotor bars, air-gap eccentricities, stator winding insulations, and bearing faults. Experimental results obtained from induction motors show that the proposed system is capable of detecting induction motor faults.

  • High voltage(H.V.) induction motors have been applied to various industrial applications. But aging and failure of induction motors are initiated by electrical, mechanical, thermal and chemical processes during manufacturing or in-service. These detects reduce locally the dielectric strength of the insulation. At such defects partial discharges can occur, which cause further degradation of the insulation and reduce the life time of the H.V induction motors. Consequently in this paper, we studied the partial discharge pattern analysis of H.V. induction motor for on-site applications.

  • This study has been performed to investigate MRR(metal removal rate) surface roughness with various pulse-on duration using the copper and graphite electrode according to the electrode size on the heat treated STD 11 which is extensively used for metallic molding steel in the EDM. The results obtained are as follow ;a)MRR increases a lot when pulse-on duration is 100 $\mu{s}$ or less but MRR has little difference with pulse-on duration of 100 $\mu{s}$ or more b) According to the increase of Pulse-on duration the large the electrode size the more MRR c) Safe discharge is needed to make maximum of MRR and the metallic organization must be complicated for discharge induction. d) Actual machining time is longer than theoretical machining time at the short pulse-on duration because of skin effect of current. e) Graphite electrode needs the larger electric discharge energy than copper electrode to remove remained chips completely.

  • IGBT inverters have switching rise times of 0.2-2 $\mu$ sec, and have been believed to cause insulation stresses and premature motor failures. Inverter driven induction motors with high speed switching and advanced PWM techniques are widely used for variable speed applications. Recently, the insulation failures of stator winding have attracted many concerns due to high dv/dt of IGBT PWM inverter output. In this paper, the detailed insulation test results of 19 low-voltage induction motors are presented. Different types of insulation techniques are applied to 19 motors. The insulation characteristics are analyzed with partial discharge, discharge inception voltage, and dissipation factor tests. Also, breakdown tests by high voltage pulses are performed, and the corresponding breakdown voltages are obtained.

  • In this paper the insulation characteristics test results of 25 low-voltage induction motors($3\phi$, 5HP, 380V) are presented. Five different types of insulation techniques are applied to 25 motors. The maximum partial discharge (PD) magnitude ($\textrm{Q}_{m}$) discharge inception voltage (DIV) dissipation factor tip-up ($\Delta$tan$\delta$) and rate of change in AC current($\Delta$I) are measured by PD and AC current tests. Also the insulation breakdown tests by high voltage pulse are performed and the corresponding breakdown voltage are obtained.

  • This study has been performed to inmvestigate MRR(metal removal rate), REW(relative electrode wear), surface roughness, heat transumutation layer and microhardness distribution in cross-section of the machined surface with various pulse-on duration and peak pulse current, using the copper and graphite electrode on the heat treated STD11 which is extensively used for metallic molding steel with the EDM. The results obtained are as follows; a) There exists critical pulse-on duration(If Ip equals 5A, .tau. on is 50 .mu. s) which shows the the maximum MRR in accordance with peak oulse current and the MRR decreases when the pulse-on duration exceeds the critical pulse-on during because of the abnormal electric discharge. b) Safe discharge is needed to make maximum of MRR and the metalic organization must be complicated for discharge induction. c) Graphite has much more benefits than copper electrode when rapid machining is done without electrode wear. d) The most external surface has the highest microhardness because of car- burizing from heat analysis of the dielectric fluid and the lower layar of the white covered layer has lower microhar dness than base matal because of softening.
