In gasoline direct injection injectors, cavitation can be generated inside the hole because of their high injection pressure. In this paper, the effects of cavitation development in injector were investigated depending on the various hole drilling angles were investigated by a numerical method. In order to verify the internal flow model, injection rate and injection quantity of individual holes were measured. The BOSCH long tube method was used to measure the injection rate. As a result, even if the hole diameters were the same, the discharge coefficient differed by up to 10% depending on the hole angle. Moreover, if the hole drilling angle became greater than 30°, the area coefficient and the discharge coefficient decreased as the nozzle outlet was blocked due to cavitation.

A model testing has been performed to investigate the flow characteristics of a vortex chamber, which plays a role of a flow switch and passively controls the discharge flow rate. This method of passive flow control is a matter of concern in the design of advanced nuclear reactor systems as an alternative to the active flow control to provide emergency water to the reactor core in case of postulated accidents like LOCA (Loss-Of-Coolant Accident). By changing the inflow direction in the vortex chamber and varying the flow resistance inside the chamber, the vortex chamber can control passively the injection flowrate. Fundamental characteristics such as discharge flow rate and pressure drop of the vortex chamber are measured, and its parametric effects on the performance of the vortex chamber are also systematically investigated.
This study investigates variation of flow characteristics due to variation of branch channel width and discharge ratio at bifurcation channel using 2D numerical model. The calculated result considering secondary flow is more accurate and stable than without considering one. The diversion flow rate ($Q_3/Q_1$) is reduced by flow stagnation effect according to the interaction of the secondary flow and flow separation zone in branch channel. The less upstream inflow or the lower upstream velocity, the bigger variation of diversion flow rate by changing branch channel width. At uniform downstream boundary condition, the rate of change in Froude number of downstream of main channel($Fr_2$)-diversion flow rate ($Q_3/Q_1$) relations is similar about -2.4843~-2.6675 when branch channel width ratio (b/B) is decreased. At uniform diversion flow rate ($Q_3/Q_1$) condition, the width of recirculation zone in branch channel is decreased when branch channel width ratio (b/B) is decreased. The less upstream inflow in the case of increasing branch channel width or the narrower branch channel width in the case of increasing upstream inflow, the bigger reduction ratio of recirculation zone width. At uniform inflow discharge ($Q_1$) condition, diversion flow rate, the width and length of recirculation zone in branch channel are decreased when branch channel width ratio (b/B) is decreased.
This study investigates changes of bifurcation discharge ratio, flow velocity distributions and characteristics of separation zone due to variation of bifurcation angle by using TELEMAC-2D model. When the bifurcation angle is reduced from 90° to 45° without changing the boundary conditions, the bifurcation discharge ratio increased by 1.5 times from 0.523 to 0.785 because of increasing the radius of curvatures, the inertia force of the downstream flow, and the pressure gradient by the downstream boundary conditions. The bifurcation discharge ratio increases non-linearly whenever the bifurcation angle decreases by 15° intervals from 90° to 45° in flow with the upstream Froude number of 0.45 to 0.74. In flow with a maximum Froude number of 0.74, the rate of increase for bifurcation discharge ratio is 31.1% and the minimum value. When the Froude number is 0.58, the bifurcation discharge ratio is 0.7 or less, and the maximum rate of increase for that ratio is 53.5%. As the upstream Froude number decreases less than 0.58, the bifurcation discharge ratio exceeds 0.7, and the rate of increase decreases. When the upstream Froude number is 0.4 higher, the dimensionless width and length changing ratio of the separation zone are about 2.56 and 5.5 times higher than in 0.4 or less.

This paper discusses experimental data for the assessment of flow discharging characteristics of double swirl coaxial injectors operating at fuel-rich conditions. Combustion tests employing liquid oxygen and kerosene (Jet A-1) were conducted and a discharge coefficient was utilized for defining flow characteristics. A mass flow rate, a pressure, and a temperature were measured to estimate discharge coefficients. Fuel injectors revealed a fixed value of a discharge coefficient regardless of matched LOx injector design, chamber pressure, and mixture ratio. However, oxidizer injectors showed varying discharging coefficients depending on chamber pressure and mixture ratio. Flame structure variations seem to affect flow discharging characteristics of the oxidizer side.
The functions of the plug valve are the control of flow rate as well closing and opening pipe lines. Analyses on the flow characteristics in plug valve port are required to improve the performance and safety at severe operating conditions such as high-pressure and high-temperature. In this study, numerical analyses are carried out with varying the opening rate (fraction of the full open to close) of the valve and the shapes of valve Uk: straight, convex, concave and mixed shapes. The parameters influencing the flow characteristics in the valve are the discharge coefficient( $C_v$) and the resistance coefficient( K). Therefore, the distributions of static pressure, velocity vector and stream lines are investigated, and $C_v$ and K are calculated in each opening rate and shape. In case of full open, the static pressure passed through the valve port has almost been recovered. However, in case of other opening rates, the pressure does not permanently regained due to pressure drop leading to loss. This phenomenon in each shape of the valve shows the different behaviors. Calculation results show that the mixed shape has the best flow attribute.
Objectives: For the field application of the dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor, scale-up of the plasma reactor is needed. This study investigated the possibility of inactivation of microorganisms in sewage using pilot multi-plasma reactor. We also considered the possibility of degradation of total organic carbon (TOC) and nonbiodegradable matter ($UV_{254}$) in sewage. Methods: The pilot plasma reactor consists of plasma reactor with three plasma modules (discharge electrode and quartz dielectric tube), liquid-gas mixer, high voltage transformers, gas supply equipment and a liquid circulation system. In order to determine the operating conditions of the pilot plasma reactor, we performed experiments on the operation parameters such as gas and liquid flow rate and electric discharge voltage. Results: The experimental results showed that optimum operation conditions for the pilot plasma reactor in batch experiments were 1 L/min air flow rate), 4 L/min liquid circulation rate, and 13 kV electric discharge voltage, respectively. The main operation factor of the pilot plasma process was the high voltage. In continuous operation of the air plasma process, residual microorganisms, $UV_{254}$ absorbance and TOC removal rate at optimal condition of 13 kV were $10^{2.24}$ CFU/mL, 56.5% and 8.6%, respectively, while in oxygen plasma process at 10 kV, residual microorganisms, $UV_{254}$ absorbance and TOC removal rate at optimal conditions were $10^{1.0}$ CFU/mL, 73.3% and 24.4%, respectively. Electric power was increased exponentially with the increase in high voltage ($R^2$ = 0.9964). Electric power = $0.0492{\times}\exp^{(0.6027{\times}lectric\;discharge\;voltage)}$ Conclusions: Inactivation of microorganisms in sewage effluent using the pilot plasma process was done. The performance of oxygen plasma process was superior to air plasma process. The power consumption of oxygen plasma process was less than that of air plasma process. However, it was considered that the final evaluation of air and oxygen plasma must be evaluated by considering low power consumption, high process performance, operating costs and facility expenses of an oxygen generator.

Recently, due to global warming and urbanization due to the influence of abnormal weather, weather changes are increasing worldwide. Various measures have been proposed to reduce flood damage as flood volume increases due to problems such as an increase in impermeable area due to urbanization and reckless development. In this study, flow characteristics and overflow volume were analyzed using FLOW-3D, a three-dimensional CFD model, in accordance with changes in the cross-flow weir inlet angle installed in the meandering river section, and a basic study was conducted to evaluate the overflow capacity and calculate the flow coefficient. As a result of the analysis, the smaller the inflow angle of the transverse overflow, the lower the water level and flow rate of the main water flow after passing the transverse overflow, and the higher the inflow angle, the higher the water level and the flow rate. In addition, it was confirmed that the direct downstream flow rate decreased compared to the upstream flow rate when the inflow angle of the transverse overflow was 40° or higher.

In this paper, discharge domain of wire-cylindrical plasma reactor was separated from a gas flow duct to avoid unstable discharge by aerosol particle deposited on discharge electrode and grounded electrode. The NOx, SOx removal was experimentally investigated by a reaction induced to ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate using a low price of aqueous NaOH solution and a small quantity of ammonia. Volume percentage of aqueous NaOH solution used was 20% and $N_2$ flow rate was 2.5[$\ell$/min] for bubbling aqueous NaOH solution. Ammonia gas(14.82%) balanced by argon was diluted by air and was introduced to a main simulated flue gas duct through $NH_3$ injection system which was in downstream of reactor. The $NH_3$ molecular ratio[MR] was determined based on $NH_3$ to [NO+$SO_2$]. MR is 1.5. The NOx removal rates increased in the order of DC, AC and pulse, but SOx removal rates was not significantly effected by source of electricity. The NOx removal rate slightly decreased with increasing initial concentration but SOx removal rate was not significantly effect by initial concentration, and NOx, SOx removal rates decreased with increasing gas flow rate.
A water shortage is one of the most important factors for development and management of water resources. For reliable water shortage measurement in a stream, Korea Water Resources Corporation(KOWACO) founded five foot Parshall flume at Yong-dam experimental watershed in 2000. The Parshall flume has a specially designed shape to facilitate flow measurements by eliminating sediment deposition problem that could lead to an incorrect measurement. In this study, computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model was used to analyze flow behavior of Parshall Flume under free discharge of five headwater level cases. The flow rates computed by CFD model are compared with those by ISO's formula, USBR's formula and stage-discharge rating curves. Flow rates computed by ISO's and USBR's formula are mostly same, but flow rate by CFD model is larger than empirical value by 9% and flow rate by stage-discharge rating curves is less than empirical value by 16%.
