Purpose of this study was to compare nutrient intakes of disabled children and non-disabled children. Subjects consisted of 86 disabled children from a special education school and 127 non-disabled children from an elementary school in Seoul. Nutrient intakes were assessed by modified 24-hr recall method, with the help of children's parents and teachers. Almost all nutrient intakes (energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamin B$_1$ and niacin) of children with cerebral palsy were significantly lower than those of other groups. But nutrient intakes per body weight of children with cerebral palsy were not significantly different with those of other groups. There was no significant difference between disabled and non-disabled children in almost % RDA (rate of actual intake to RDA) except of energy %RDA in children with cerebral palsy. NARs (nutrient adequacy ratio) for energy and vitamin B$_1$ of children with cerebral palsy were significantly lower than those of children with autism and mental retardation, and non-disabled children. The proportions of energy, carbohydrate and protein intakes from lunch were significantly higher than those from breakfast and dinner in children with mental retardation and autism. The nutrient intakes of disabled children were different between other groups according to the type of handicap. For example, children with cerebral palsy had the risk of undernutrition. On the other hand, autistic children had the tendency of overnutrition. These results suggest that nutrition educational programs and educational materials for disabled children, their teachers and their parents should be developed considering the type of handicap.

Purpose: This study was to describe the burden of aged parents caring for adult children with disabilities and related factors. Methods: The subjects were 123 caregivers aged over 65 who were caring for 18-year-old or older children with disabilities. The research tool of this study was a structured questionnaire on family burden. Data were collected from June 3 to 25, 2010, and analyzed by Cronbach's alpha, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA using SAS 9.2 program. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows. Elderly parents caring for adult children with disabilities perceived a moderate level of burden. The burden from concern over their children's future was highest, and economic and physical burdens were higher when the parents were younger. Burden was significantly different according to parents' characteristics such as gender, perceived health status, disease, the costs of caring for disabled children, and children's characteristics such as disability rating, health status, and ADL. Conclusion: In order to reduce the burden of elderly parents caring for adult children with disabilities, we need to improve their health status and assess comprehensive policies.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect solution-focused brief group therapy program on a relationship between developmental disorder children and their parents. The following research question is formulated to address the purpose: (1) Does solution-focused brief group therapy program will improve interaction on parents's "warmth" and "involvement"? (2) Does solution-focused brief group therapy program will improve interaction on child's overall action and relative behavior? (3) Does solution-focused brief group therapy program will improve relationship between the developmental disorder children and their parents? For research, 12 disabled children and their parents are assigned into two groups: Experimental and Control group. Findings are that. (1) The solution-focused brief group therapy program showed positive reaction on "parent's warm heart" but there was no reaction on "involvement". (2) The solution-focused brief group therapy program affect on interaction types of the disabled children. 3) According to self-recorded report, the parents' satisfaction of consultation has been increased by frequency. These results showing that the solution-focused brief group therapy are affected the interaction between developmental disorder and their own parents. Clinically, this outcome shows a significant practical implications on social work intervention.

By educational level, those with a middle school education experienced a high dental caries rate with 91.8% (p<0.05). Of total subjects who experienced dental caries, 78.9% had experience in dental caries treatment. By age, those in their 10s showed a high rate of dental caries treatment with 87.4%(p<0.05). By educational level, those with a high school education showed a high rate of dental caries treatment with 87.7%(p<0.05). Those in residential care centers had a high rate of dental caries treatment with 82.1%, which is significantly higher than 68.8% of those who used day-care centers. A tooth extraction rate was 38.0% of total subjects. Those in their 40s had a higher rate of tooth extraction(p<0.01). Those in residental care centers had a significantly higher rate of extraction with 43.4%, compared with 20.2% of those in day-care centers. Of total subjects, 61.5% had plaque. A high rate of plaque formation was observed in those in their 40s(92.0%), those with a high school education(84.0%) and those with multiple disabilities(77.8%)(p<0.01). Among total subjects, 47.6% maintained healthy periodontal tissue. Those in their 40s and those with multiple disabilities had diseased periodontal tissue(p<0.01). Of 129 disabled children, 43.8% had plaque with parents who were not oral health-conscious while 18.6% had plaque with parents who were oral health-conscious, showing a significant difference(p<0.05) Conclusion: The results of the study suggest the need for educating parents with disabled children about oral health and strengthening programs for oral health for teachers working at special schools and day-care centers.
