First, the personal hygiene of residential disabled people was positively correlated with voluntary toothbrushing, recognition of the importance of toothbrushing, and finding of their own toothbrush. Second, the difficulties related to the oral hygiene practice of residents with disabilities were found to be carrying out abnormalities in their toothbrush and oral examinations at dental medical institutions. In addition, in the spontaneous performance, they did not do well in gum massage and in restraining sugary foods. Third, voluntary toothbrushing was positively correlated with training on toothbrushing, and toothbrushing for more than 3 minutes and the rolling method toothbrushing were positively correlated with the supplement of oral health materials. Therefore, a dental hygiene management program is required continuously for living rehabilitation teachers and the disabled.

  • This paper describes the improvement of driving stability and the control system for INMEL-VII which is motorized manual wheelchair to satisfy requirements of the disabled The INMEL-VI was based on high maneuverability of the omnidirection drive and safety But the results of field tests about two years showed some problems to the disabled in daily life such as driving stability, Pm switching noise, and rotation of motor without driving command on negative slope. To solve the problems due to an increased DC motor power and applied to direct connection method in INMEL- VII. It improved the driving circuits and set switching frequency to 5KHz to eliminate the switching noise caused by PWM control of DC motor, As compare with the INMEL-VI, INMEL-VII is improved in driving stability by transfer the weight center to forward. The results of field testing proved the improvement of the driving stability and software algorithm It has been estimated to have a hlgh practical use for powered walking aids to the disabled's daily life.

  • Objectives: This study aims to find status of the oral health care, the oral health education program utilization and the oral health guidance according to the experience status of oral health education of special school teachers. Methods: The study subjects were 133 teachers at special schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungbuk and Jeonbuk regions. Results: 32.8% of the male and 67.2% of the female teachers have the oral health education experience. Barriers for the dental treatment to teachers with the education experience show in the order as 'disabled children's noncooperation' 49.2%, 'economic reasons' 37.7% and 'medical institution's rejection' 6.6% and, to teachers without the education experience, 'disabled children's noncooperation' 45.8%, 'economic reasons' 19.4% and 'not emergency situation' 13.9%(p<0.01). Regarding the necessity of arranged institution to manage the oral health, 91.8% of teachers with the oral health education answer as 'necessary'(p<0.05). Regarding the barriers on the performance of oral health program 27.9%, the majority of teachers with the education experience answer as 'insufficient administrative & financial support' and 36.1%, the majority of teachers without the education experience answer as 'insufficient understanding and expertise on the oral health education'. 86.9% of the teachers with the education experience and 62.5% of the teachers without the education experience are found to 'guide students on the oral health'(p<0.01). Conclusions: It was considered that various oral health education programs positively influential to the oral health care and education for disabled children should be developed according to the status of oral health education experience of special school teachers.

  • The need for oral health rights for people with disabilities is very high, and current oral health care system does not fully reflect these demands. Efforts to promote oral health of people with disabilities are urgently needed. In order for the disabled to have oral health rights, access to oral health services for people with disabilities should be improved and barriers to access should be resolved. In this study, we propose oral health service delivery system to guarantee oral health rights for the disabled. In addition, before applying the proposed oral medical delivery system, the external effects of the system application were predicted and the expert verification was conducted to find out the solution. There are some controversies about the development of the service delivery system proposed in this study. As a result of the expert verification, there were disagreements about the suitability of the service provider, the suitability of the service recipient, the appropriateness of the service content and scope, and the appropriateness of the cost and the revenue source. Subsequent Delphi surveys require the development of structured questionnaires for discussions that require consensus. It is expected that a reasonable consensus of expert opinions will be derived.

  • In this paper, A localized electromotion scooter controller for the senior and disabled is developed. Recently, the population which uses the electromotion wheel chair or electromotion scooter is increasing. The reason is that the electromotion wheel chair and electromotion scooter were newly applied in medical treatment grant item. In the whole world, electromotion scooter controller is coming to be produced above a hundred of millions. The products produced are consuming from most Europe and North America. the demand is increasing rapidly in Korea. The electromotion scooter which is sold to domestic is about 40,000 units, and about 70% or more in the products are imported from the foreign nation. Also controller for electromotion scooter uses the foreign nation product. Consequently, as the localized electromotion scooter controller is developed, it will be able to expect an income substitution effect, and apply to the agriculture and leisure mobile equipment parts.

  • Individuals with special needs include those with behavioral issues, developmental disorders, cognitive disorders, congenital or genetic disorders, or systemic disease. These conditions may place them at increased risk for oral diseases. Dental management of patients with special needs require in-depth understanding of the background of disability and available behavioral guidance theories. Therefore dental team members need more training in the theory and practice of behavior management principles, which might lead to a clinical experience that is more respectful of the dignity and independence of patients with special needs. The dental professional should be flexible to modify the behavior management approach according to the individual patients needs. Also a family/care-giver centered approach based on their preferences and concerns, the patient's challenging behaviors, and related medical problem can serve to improve the treatment planning and oral health management of dental patients with special needs. This article focuses on uncooperative behavior and behavior management, which help practicing dentists to understand their role in the care of patients with special needs.

  • The main concepts in the design and construction of an motorized wheelchair for loading in the tar which is intended to drive a disabled to long distance. The wheelchair is basically a powered and folding, so it is designed to motorized manual wheel- chair by modularity method. The wheelchair hrs been installed with a power motor module, battery module, and drive & control module. The goal of this project is to develop a wheelchair that has multifunction and operated disabled who has variety impairment. So we ave currently working. Experimental results of the system approach our purpose, which is improved maneuverability, safety and can be loaded.

  • This thesis is aimed to suggest the efficiency at the education space for job-rehabilitation through grasping the characteristics of behavior and attitude of the handicapped and analyzing their loaming behavior as an employment promotion for the disabled. For that purpose, the demand of the handicapped and some overlooked space problems we searched by survey, interview, observation and investigation to offer basic data for interior design planning. It resulted firstly that the inconvenience of narrow space was pointed out in many responses implying users suffer from the stress and inconvenience caused by an unconsidered space planning to their behavior. And secondly further difficulties are added when medical appliances for the disabled are not appropriate to common furniture. Finally, without identification of the behavior and attitude of the handicapped the minimum or optimum space needed for them could not be suggested and it may cause to decrease the efficiency in their learning.
