In this study, two full-scale gravity load-designed reinforced concrete corner beam-column joints were tested by being subjected to uniand bi-directional cyclic lateral loading. The test variable was loading type: uni- or bi-directional loading. To investigate the effect of the loading type on the cyclic behavior of joint specimens, damage progression, force-deformation relation, contribution of joint deformation to total drift, joint stress-strain response, and cumulative energy dissipation were investigated. The test data suggest that bidirectional loading can amplify damage accumulation in the joint region.

Throughput scaling laws for two coexisting ad hoc networks with m primary users (PUs) and n secondary users (SUs) randomly distributed in an unit area have been widely studied. Early work showed that the secondary network performs as well as stand-alone networks, namely, the per-node throughput of the secondary networks is ${\Theta}(1/\sqrt{n{\log}n})$. In this paper, we show that by exploiting directional spectrum opportunities in secondary network, the throughput of secondary network can be improved. If the beamwidth of secondary transmitter (TX)'s main lobe is ${\delta}=o(1/{\log}n)$, SUs can achieve a per-node throughput of ${\Theta}(1/\sqrt{n{\log}n})$ for directional transmission and omni reception (DTOR), which is ${\Theta}({\log}n)$ times higher than the throughput with-out directional transmission. On the contrary, if ${\delta}={\omega}(1/{\log}n)$, the throughput gain of SUs is $2{\pi}/{\delta}$ for DTOR compared with the throughput without directional antennas. Similarly, we have derived the throughput for other cases of directional transmission. The connectivity is another critical metric to evaluate the performance of random ad hoc networks. The relation between the number of SUs n and the number of PUs m is assumed to be $n=m^{\beta}$. We show that with the HDP-VDP routing scheme, which is widely employed in the analysis of throughput scaling laws of ad hoc networks, the connectivity of a single SU can be guaranteed when ${\beta}$ > 1, and the connectivity of a single secondary path can be guaranteed when ${\beta}$ > 2. While circumventing routing can improve the connectivity of cognitive radio ad hoc network, we verify that the connectivity of a single SU as well as a single secondary path can be guaranteed when ${\beta}$ > 1. Thus, to achieve the connectivity of secondary networks, the density of SUs should be (asymptotically) bigger than that of PUs.

In this study, we analyzed the variations in the received signal strength index (RSSI) measured from Bluetooth beacons based on the strength and propagation direction of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) signal. Using a smartphone, we performed field experiments to investigate RSSI variations in the BLE signal transmitted by non-directional and directional beacons in an amethyst mine. In case of non-directional beacons, as the distance between the Bluetooth beacon and smartphone decreased, the RSSI increases, whereas as the BLE signal strength increased, the RSSI average gradually increased. The mean value of RSSI measured from the directional beacons was changed without relation to the facing angle between the Bluetooth beacon and smartphone. The results of this study can be used as basic data for developing a Bluetooth beacon-based proximity warning system for underground mines.
The loss due to caching replacement in the wireless mobile proxy caching structure has a significant effect on streaming QoS. This paper proposes a similarity-based caching loss minimization (SCLM) for minimizing the loss caused by the caching replacement. The proposed scheme divides object segments, and then it performs the similarity relation about them. Segments that perform the similarity relation generates similarity relation tree (SRT). The similarity is an important metric for deciding a relevance feedback, and segments that satisfy these requirements in the cache block for caching replacement. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance than the existing prefix caching scheme, segment-based caching scheme, and bi-directional proxy scheme in terms of QoS, average delayed startup ratio, cache throughput, and cache response ratio.

The research for exchange relationship in customer's perspective is meaningful especially in service, considering distinctive characteristics of service operations such as customer participation in the process whereas most of the recent related researches have been focused on employee's interaction with organization, leader, team and customer. In this study for beauty art service, the exchange party's characteristic is defined with beauty salon's reputation, staff's professionalism and customer's self-esteem. Also the exchange relation perception is classified into symbolism and interaction, Then the directional relations on customer's perspective are empirically investigated in the sequential order of the exchange party's characteristics, the exchange relation perception, the relationship quality and behavioral intention. In addition, the study examined the meditation effect via relationship quality between the exchange relation perception and the behavioral intention. Followings are confirmed from the statistical test with structural equation modelling:Symbolism is significantly caused by all of professionalism, reputation and self-esteem in the descending order of effect size whereas interaction is significantly influenced by only professionalism. The exchange relation perception has significant effect on the relationship quality, in turn which significantly affects behavioral intention. The exchange relation perception shows the significant indirect effect meditated by relationship quality and the insignificant direct effect on behavioral intention. This paper concludes with contribution of this study, managerial implication of the research findings and further research issues.
In this paper, we propose a robot-centered direction relation representation and the relevant reasoning methods for indoor service robots. Many conventional works on qualitative spatial reasoning, when deciding the relative direction relation of the target object, are based on the use of position information only. These reasoning methods may infer an incorrect direction relation of the target object relative to the robot, since they do not take into consideration the heading direction of the robot itself as the base object. In this paper, we present a robot-centered direction relation representation and the reasoning methods. When deciding the relative directional relationship of target objects based on the robot in an indoor environment, the proposed methods make use of the orientation information as well as the position information of the robot. The robot-centered reasoning methods are implemented by extending the existing cone-based, matrix-based, and hybrid methods which utilized only the position information of two objects. In various experiments with both the physical Turtlebot and the simulated one, the proposed representation and reasoning methods displayed their high performance and applicability.
On the soft carbon made from petroleum coke, it was found that the graphitization began at around 2,000$^{\circ}C and crystallite diameters were almost saturated at 2,400$^{\circ}C., and that the molecular planes were difficult to arrange into an ideal graphite lattice in spite of the saturation of crystallinity by heat treatment temperature. On the hard carbon made from cross-linked thermosetting plastics, phenol-formaldehyde filler and phenol-benzaldehyde binder, it was very difficult to rotate the molecular planes into a regular directional arrangement and into a consecutive order corresponding to the large graphite crystals. In addition to the above mentioned crystallinity, it was also determined in relation to electric conductivity, resistivity, hardness and apparent density of carbons.

The directional algebraic reconstruction technique (DART) using the trigonometric current pattern is one of the image reconstruction algorithms in electrical impedance tomography (EIT). This method needs to compute resistances between electrode pairs as using relation between the injected currents and measured voltages for the reconstruction of the inner image. The delay time is incurred in this process. Therefore this paper proposes modified directional algebraic reconstruction technique (mDART) using the adjacent current pattern instead of the trigonometric current pattern to solve the delay time for initial resistance values. The proposed method uses measured voltages instead of computed resistances in the reconstruction algorithm. Hence this method can eliminate the delay time because it does not use the resistances. In conclusion, the proposed method improves image quality and image reconstruction time by using the adjacent current pattern. To prove performance of the proposed method, we carried on computer simulation of various cases.
The growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was carried out using ratio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (rf PECVD) system equipped with dc bias for the directional growth. Acetylene and ammonia gas were used as the carbon source and a catalyst. The relation between gas flow rate and dc bias on the growth of CNTs was investigated. We studied the relation between emission properties and the directionality of CNTs grown under different dc bias voltage.
