This paper proposes an enhanced algorithm for person identification system utilizing hand vein pattern. The conventional algorithm does not cope with distortion caused by image rotation caused by misplaced hands on the imaging device. A straightforward approach to consider the rotaional compensation required too much computational load, thus, we devised an approach to expect the rotation direction along with image translation, reducing the compuational requirement dramatically In this paper, we present the details of the algorithm with experimental results with the new algorithm.

The effect of mold rotation on the transport process and resultant macrosegregation pattern during solidification of an Al-Cu alloy contained in a vertical axisymmetric annular mold cooled from the inner wall is numerically investigated. The mold initially at rest starts to rotate at a prescribed angular velocity simultaneously with the beginning of cooling. Computed results for a representative case show that the mold rotation essentially suppresses the development of both thermal and solutal convections in the melt, creating distinct characteristics such as the liquidus front, flow pattern and temperature distribution from those for the stationary mold. Thermal convection which develops at the early stages of cooling is soon extinguished by the rotating flow induced during spin-up, and thus does not effectively remove the initial superheat from the melt. On the other hand, solutal convection, though it weakens considerably and is confined within the mushy zone, still predominates over the solute redistribution process. With increasing the angular velocity, the solute transport in the axial direction is enhanced, whereas that in the radial direction is reduced. The final macrosegregation formed in the mold rotating at moderate angular velocities appears to be favorable in comparison with the stationary casting, in that not only relatively homogenized composition is achieved, but also a severely positive-segregated channel is restrained.
This paper investigates the tensile properties of the friction stir welded joints of Al 7075-T651 aluminum plate according to the welding conditions. A 7075-T651 aluminum alloy plate with a thickness of 6.0 mm was used in this investigation. For the friction stir welding (FSW) process, a tool with shoulder diameter of 20 mm and probe diameter of 9 mm was used. The rotation speed and traverse speed conditions were changed in this study, the other welding conditions are constant. The welding direction was aligned with the material rolling direction, and dimension of the FSW plate were $250{\times}100{\times}6\;mm$. As far as this work is concerned, the optimal FSW conditions are determined as the rotation speed, 600 rpm and traverse speed 0.8 mm/sec or the rotation speed, 800 rpm and traverse speed 0.5 mm/sec.

To establish of standard technique of nano-length measurement in 2D plane, new AFM system has been designed. In the long range (about several tens of ${\mu}m$), measurement uncertainty is dominantly affected by the Abbe error of XY scanning stage. No linear stage is perfectly straight; in other words, every scanning stage is subject to tilting, pitch and yaw motion. In this paper, an AFM system with minimum offset of XY sensing is designed. And XY scanning stage is designed to minimize rotation angle because Abbe errors occur through the multiply of offset and rotation angle. To minimize the rotation angle optimal design has performed by maximizing the stiffness ratio of motion direction to the parasitic motion direction of each stage. This paper describes the design scheme of full AFM system, especially about XY stage. Full range of fabricated XY scanner is $100{\mu}m\times100{\mu}m$. And tilting, pitch and yaw motion are measured by autocollimator to evaluate the performance of XY stage. As a result, XY scanner can have good performance. Using this AFM system, 3um pitch specimen was measured. The uncertainty of total system has been evaluated. X and Y direction performance is different. X-direction measuring performance is better. So to evaluate only ID pitch length, X-direction scanning is preferable. Its expanded uncertainty(k=2) is $\sqrt{(3.96)^2+(4.10\times10^{-5}{\times}p)^2}$ measured length in nm.

Since CORDIC (COordinate Rotation DIgital Computer) is able to carry out the phase operation, such as vector to phase conversion or rotation of vectors, with adders and shifters, it is well suited for the design of the frequency synchronization unit in OFDM receivers. It is not easy, however, to fully utilize the CORDIC in the OFDM demodulator because of the non-linear characteristics of the direction sequence (DS), which is the representation of the phase in CORDIC. In this paper a new representation method is proposed to linearize the direction sequence approximately. The maximum phase error of the linearized binary direction sequence (LBDS) is also discussed. For the purpose of designing the hardware, the architectures for the binary DS (BDS) to LBDS converter and the LBDS to BDS inverse converter are illustrated. Adopting LBDS, the overall frequency synchronization hardware for OFDM receivers can be implemented fully utilizing CORDIC and general arithmetic operators, such as adders and multipliers, for the phase estimation, loop filtering of the frequency offset, derotation for the frequency offset correction. An example of the design of 22 bit LBDS for the T-DMB demodulator is also presented.

In this paper, we present a method which is based on the concept of the rotation of subspaces. This method is highly related to the angle (or distance) between subspaces arising in many applications. An effective procedures is first derived for finding the optimal transformation matrix which rotates one subspace into another as closely as possible in the least squares sense , and then this algorithm is applied to the solution to general direction-of-arrival estimation problem of multiple broadband plane waves which may be a mixture of incoherent, partially coherent or coherent. In this typical application, the rotation of signal subspaces (ROSS) algorithm is effectively developed to achieve the high performance in the active systems for the case in which the noise field remains invariant with the measurement of the array spectral density matrix (or data matrix). It is not uncommon to observe this situation in sonar systems. The advantage of this techniques is not to require the preliminary processing and spatial prefiltering which is used in Wang-Kaveh's CSS focusing method. Furthermore, the array's geometry is not restricted. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the high performance achieved with this new approach relative to that obtained with Wang-Kaveh's CSS focusing method for incoherent sources and forward-backward spatial smoothed MUSIC for coherent sources including the signal eigenvector method (SEM).

The directions of the principal strain increment, stress, and stress increment during rotation of the principal stress axes at any stress level was studied for $K_0$-consolidated clay using torsion shear apparatus with individual control of the vertical stress, the confining pressure, and the shear stress on hollow cylinder specimens under undrained and drained condition. The torsion shear tests were performed according to predetermined stress-paths, which were chosen to cover over the full range of rotation of principal stress axes. The test results indicated that the strain increment vectors at failure coincided with the stress vectors. That is, the direction of strain increment coincided with the direction of stress increment at small stress levels and with the direction of stress at higher stress levels, which indicated that the behavior of clay was transfered from elastic to plastic as the stress level was increased. The applicability of the elastoplastic theory for modeling of the behavior of clay during rotation of the principal stress axes was given.
This study proposes the design method for the robot rotation arm which the end effector that is connected in end of the arm keeps parallel motion even though the robot arm rotates. So far, most robot arm rotates together the end effector when the arm rotates. For this, this study proposes the mechanism that the arm is linked to each 4 parallel link so that rotation is possible by 4 pins, and the rotation arm connects 2 joints of diagonal line direction to a link in each 4 joint for rotation, and designs so that can change length of the link. For verification of design, this study targeted that develop the rotation arm for medical examination that use in ophthalmology. It is important that a medical robot offers comport to patient and design compactly so that medical examination and treatment space may can be defined enough. It is designed so that all drive elements may be positioned on interior of the arm and optimization of design for main parts was carried out in this study for this. The robot arm which is developed in this study manufactured to use by medical phoropter arm, and got good result by an experiment. The robot rotation arm which is proposed in this study is judged to contribute very effectively in case use of a medical robot arm for medical examination and treatment, also the robot arm which the end effector that is connected in the end of the arm needs to keep parallel motion. And, the robot arm which is developed in this study made an application as license.

The recent rapid development of HCI and surveillance technologies has brought great interests in application systems to process faces. Much of research efforts in these systems has been primarily focused on such areas as face recognition, facial expression analysis and facial feature extraction. However, not many approaches have been reported toward face direction detection. This paper proposes a method to detect the direction of a face using a facial feature called facial triangle, which is formed by two eyebrows and the lower lip. Specifically, based on the single monocular view of the face, the proposed method introduces very simple formulas to estimate the horizontal or vertical rotation angle of the face. The horizontal rotation angle can be calculated by using a ratio between the areas of left and right facial triangles, while the vertical angle can be obtained from a ratio between the base and height of facial triangle. Experimental results showed that our method makes it possible to obtain the horizontal angle within an error tolerance of ${\pm}1.68^{\circ}$, and that it performs better as the magnitude of the vertical rotation angle increases.
