Objective: The purpose of the study was to examine the direct effects of parent-adolescent communication and its indirect effects through adolescent friendship quality on happiness among both middle and high school students. Methods: Participants in this study were 1,126 adolescents (667 middle school students and 459 high school students) in Seoul and Gyoung-gi Do. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires for adolescents, which included measures of parent-adolescent communication, friendship quality and happiness. Data were analyzed by t-tests, correlations, and SEM using SPSS 22.0 and Mplus 6.0. Results: For middle school students, father-adolescent communication had direct and indirect effects on happiness. However, mother-adolescent communication did not directly or indirectly affect adolescent happiness. Specifically, only father-adolescent communication had an significant indirect effect through friendship quality on adolescent happiness. For high school students, father-adolescent communication had direct effects on happiness, while mother-adolescent communication had significant indirect effects on adolescent happiness via friendship quality. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of parent-adolescent communication and friendship quality in predicting adolescent happiness with differences in direct and indirect paths between middle and high school students. These findings emphasize the role of parent-adolescent communication and friendship quality in developing programs to improve the happiness of adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of family structure(parentral marital status and socioeconomic status), parental communication, academic problems, and peer relationship on juvenile delinquency. The participants were 1009 middle school and high school students in Seoul city and Gyeonggi Province. The major results were as follows: 1) Parental marital status(divorced/seperated) had both direct and indirect positive effects and lower class in socioeconomic status had an indirect positive effect on academic problems and peer relationship on juvenile delinquency rates. 2) Open maternal communication had a direct negative effect on juvenile delinquency rates. However, open paternal communication had both direct and indirect negative effects. 3) Academic problems had both direct and indirect positive effects on juvenile delinquency rates. 4) Peer relationship had a direct positive effect on juvenile delinquency rates. 5) The level of effects that each variable had differed by delinquency types. Based on these results, implications for preventing juvenile delinquency were discussed.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the immediate effects of various contract-relax (CR) techniques on the peck force and passive range of motion (ROM) of knee extension. Methods: This study recruited 17 adult males and females who obtained below $90^{\circ}$ in straight leg raising. The subjects randomly performed one of three different CR techniques (direct CR, indirect CR, and modified CR) on the right knee extension four times per day for three days. The subjects' peck force during each CR and their passive knee extension on the hip at a $90^{\circ}$ flexed position before and after each CR were measured. Results: The peck force was significantly higher in the direct and modified CR than in the indirect CR. The ROM in the passive knee extension significantly increased after direct and indirect CR. Comparing between each CR, the passive knee extension range was significantly more improved in the direct and indirect CR than in the modified CR. Conclusion: Direct and indirect CR are more effective than modified CR in the ROM of passive knee extension. The study results suggest that the modified CR did not have the same effect on the ROM of the knee extension as the direct and indirect CR and that further research is needed to recruit more subjects and to determine the effects on different muscles after modified CR.

Tax can be categorised into direct tax and indirect tax. This paper uses the ordinary least-squares regression method to study the impact of direct and indirect tax on economic growth in Vietnam in the period 2003-2017. Statistical data is collected from the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam. Theoretically, tax generates the state budget revenue and is a tool to regulate the economy. The results of statistical tests show that tax has a positive impact on Vietnam's economic growth. However, the effects of direct tax and indirect tax are different. The indirect tax has a positive influence and promote Vietnam's economic growth, while the impact of the direct tax is invisible. There has not been sufficient evidence to confirm that the indirect tax has a more positive impact than the direct tax. To promote economic growth, Vietnam needs to restructure its tax system towards: (1) Increasing the proportion of indirect tax, reducing the proportion of direct tax in the state budget revenue; (2) Expanding tax bases; (3) Reducing tax rates of corporate income tax and personal income tax; (4) Increasing tax rates of environmental protection tax, natural resources tax, value added tax and excise tax on some types of goods which harm health and environment.
Traditional mediation analysis, which relies on linear regression models, has faced criticism due to its limited suitability for cases involving different types of variables and complex covariates, such as interactions. This can result in unclear definitions of direct and indirect effects. As an alternative, causal mediation analysis using the counterfactual framework has been introduced to provide clearer definitions of direct and indirect effects while allowing for more flexible modeling methods. However, the conceptual understanding of this approach based on the counterfactual framework remains challenging for applied researchers. To address this issue, the present article was written to highlight and illustrate the definitions of causal estimands, including controlled direct effect, natural direct effect, and natural indirect effect, based on the key concept of nested counterfactuals. Furthermore, we recommend using 2 R packages, 'medflex' and 'mediation', to perform causal mediation analysis and provide public health examples. The article also offers caveats and guidelines for accurate interpretation of the results.
The effects of casting processes-direct and indirect squeeze casting, permanent mold casting and die casting on the microstructure and mechanical properties were studied for the hypereutectic B390 aluminium alloy. The effects of T5 and T6 heat treatment were also examined. The direct and indirect squeeze casting showed no casting defects such as porosity and shrinkage were observed in permanent mold castings and die castings. The primary silicon phase was refined and homogeneously distributed in the order of indirect squeeze casting, diecasting, direct squeeze casting and permanent mold casting. Depletion of primary silicon phase in die casting surface was disappeared in indirect squeeze casting. Tensile strength of cast and heat treated specimens were increased in the order of direct squeeze casting, permanent mold casting, indirect squeeze casting and die casting. Hardness of indirect squeeze castings was larger than that of other castings. As indirect squeeze casting of B390 aluminium alloy, the time of T6 heat treatment to achieve high strength can be reduced.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of adolescent attachment to mothers and peers, self-esteem and impulse control on delinquency. The subjects were 624 eighth and eleventh grade students in Busan. The subjects rated themselves on questionnaires regarding attachment to mothers and peers, self-esteem, impulse control and latent delinquency. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) Male adolescent delinquency increased with grade. But no grade difference was found in female adolescent delinquency. And male adolescent had more delinquency than female adolescent. 2) Grade had a direct and indirect effect through attachment to peers and impulse control on male adolescent delinquency and was the first positive contribution factor. Impulse control had a direct negative effect on male adolescent delinquency. Attachment to mothers had an indirect negative effect through self-esteem on male adolescent delinquency. Attachment to peers had an indirect negative effect through self-esteem and impulse control on male adolescent delinquency. Self-esteem had an indirect negative effect through impulse control on male adolescent delinquency. 3) Attachment to mothers had a direct and indirect effort through impulse control on female adolescent delinquency and was a first negative contribution factor. Impulse control had a direct negative effect on female adolescent delinquency. Attachment to peers had an indirect negative effect through impulse control on female adolescent delinquency. Grade had an indirect negative effect through impulse control on female adolescent delinquency. Self-esteem had no effect on female adolescent delinquency.
This study was conducted in order to determine health effects of socio-psychological stresses in Taegu Area from march 1 thorough march 31, 1998. Three hundred and thirty three subjects(168 males and 165 females) were randomly selected and interviewed by trained interviewers according to questionnaires. The results are summarized as fellows; 1. Health statuses by age, education religion, marital status, occupation and family income were significantly different. 2. The factors which had significant influences on Health status ware vitality, depression and general feeling of subjects' health. 3. Health status were directly influenced by the age(direct effect=-0.014), vitality(direct effect=0.473), and general feeling of subjects' health (direct effect=0.222), but, was indirectly influenced by education degree (indirect effect=0.010), income(indirect effect=0.039), and mental depression(indirect effect=-0.069). The variabilities which were both directly and indirectly influenced, were the age (direct effect=-0.014, indirect effect=-0.002), vitality(direct effect=0.473, indirect effect=-0.071).
Objective: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the direct effect of maternal parenting behavior and indirect effects through preschoolers'executive function on three types of social behavior, prosocial, aggressive and withdrawn behavior. Methods: A total of 299 mothers and their preschool-aged children were the subjects of this study. Mothers completed the questionnaire that included measures of their parenting behavior, preschoolers' executive function, and social behavior. Results: First, mothers' positive parenting behavior had a direct effect on preschoolers' prosocial behavior, and mothers' negative parenting behavior had direct effects on preschoolers' aggressive and withdrawn behavior. Second, mothers' positive parenting behavior had indirect effects on preschoolers' prosocial, aggressive and withdrawn behavior through preschoolers' executive function. In contrast, indirect paths from maternal negative parenting behavior to social behavior through preschoolers' execution function were not significant. Conclusion/Implications: These findings underscore the importance of executive function during early childhood and suggest the need for effective parenting programs to promote executive function.
This study examined the effects of adolescent's alienation, depression, family environment and school maladjustment on suicidal ideation. Data were collected from 577 second graders from high school. The results were as follows: Firstly, family's abuse had a direct and an indirect effect through alienation and depression on adolescent's suicidal ideation. Home stress, family support and socioeconomic status had an indirect effect through school maladjustment, alienation and depression on suicidal ideation. Secondly, school maladjustment in dating had a direct effect on adolescent's suicidal ideation. School maladjustment in relations with teacher and peers and in learning activities had indirect effects through alienation and depression on adolescent's suicidal ideation. Thirdly, adolescent's depression had a greatest direct effect on suicidal ideation. Adolescent's alienation had a direct and an indirect effect through depression on adolescent's suicidal ideation and was the most important predictive variable of adolescent's suicidal ideation.
