  • Direct-conversion receiver(DCR) architecture has superior advantages in size, cost, and power over superheterodyne receiver architectures. However, the use of direct-conversion receiver architecture has been limited due to the direct-current offset noise. The ac coupling, which is used to overcome the direct-current offset noise, causes an inter-symbol interference(ISI), whose effects can be effectively mitigated using an equalizer. In this paper, the performance of a direct-conversion receiver with ac coupling in the presence of direct-current offset is analyzed via computer simulation. The simulation result shows that by using decision feedback equalizer with LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm, signal-to-noise ratio loss of the direct-conversion receiver compared to the idea receiver can be reduced to less than 1㏈ for corner frequencies as large as 10% of the symbol rate.

  • 최근, 상업적인 pcs시스템은 매우 발전되어 있으며, 결국 차세대 이동통신은 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공하는 IMT-2000에 의해 실현될 것이다. 그러므로 , 새로운 형태의 수신 시스템 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있고, 이중하나가 Direct conversion 방식이다 Direct conversion은 차세대 이동통신 시스템에 필요한 저전력, 소형, MMIC, 저가에 적합한 방식이다. 이 시스템을 사용할 경우 DC-offset의 문제가 발생하게 된다. DC-offset은 시스템에서 주파수 합성기의 누설신호에 의해 원하는 신호의 증폭을 억압한다. 본 논문에서 DC-offset을 제거하는 방법에 대해 고려한다. DC-offset의 제거법에는 AC-coupling, 대용량 capacitor, DC-feedback loop, DC-free coding의 4가지 방법이 있다. 이중에서 AC-coupling법은 가장 간단하며, DC-feedback법은 최고의 성능을 가진다. AC-coupling법과 DC-feedback법을 HP사의 ADS를 사용하여 시뮬레이션 하였다.

A Quadrature VCO Exploiting Direct Back-Gate Second Harmonic Coupling

  • This paper proposes a novel quadrature VCO(QVCO) based on direct back-gate second harmonic coupling. The QVCO directly couples the current sources of the conventional LC VCOs through the back-gate instead of front-gate to generate quadrature signals. By the second harmonic injection locking, the two LC VCOs can generate quadrature signals without using on-chip transformer, or stability problem that is inherent in the direct front-gate second harmonic coupling. The proposed QVCO is implemented in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology operating at 2 GHz with 5.0 mA core current consumption from 1.8 V power supply. The measured phase noise of the proposed QVCO is - 63 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset, -95 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, and -116 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from the 2 GHz output frequency, respectively. The calculated figure of merit(FOM) is about -174 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. The measured image band rejection is 46 dB which corresponds to the phase error of $0.6^{\circ}$.

  • The two-degree-of-freedom direct drive induction motor, which is capable of linear, rotary and helical motion, has a wide application in special industry such as industrial robot arms. It is inevitable that the linear motion and rotary motion generate coupling effect on each other on account of the high integration. The analysis of this effect has great significance in the research of two-degree-of-freedom motors, which is also crucial to realize precision control of them. The coupling factor considering the coupling effect is proposed and addressed by 3D finite element method. Then the corrected mathematical model is presented by importing the coupling factor. The results from it are verified by 3D finite element model and prototype test, which validates the corrected mathematical model.

2D Finite element analysis of rectangular water tank with separator wall using direct coupling

  • The present paper deals with the analysis of water tank with elastic separator wall. Both fluid and structure are discretized and modeled by eight node-elements. In the governing equations, pressure for the fluid domain and displacement for the separator wall are considered as nodal variables. A method namely, direct coupled for the analysis of water tank has been carried out in this study. In direct coupled approach, the solution of the fluid-structure system is accomplished by considering these as a single system. The hydrodynamic pressure on tank wall is presented for different lengths of tank. The results show that the magnitude of hydrodynamic pressure is quite large when the distances between the separator wall and tank wall are relatively closer and this is due to higher rotating tendency of fluid and the higher sloshed displacement at free surface.

  • 현재의 무선통신기기는 다양한 멀티미디어의 제공과 함께 저전력, 소형·경량화, 단말기 가격의 저렴화가 개발의 목표가 되고 있다. 그러나, 기존의 무선통신시스템인 헤테로다윈 방식으로는 사용부품의 다양성 때문에 소형·경량화 및 부품의 On-Chip 작업에 어려움이 있어 미래형무선통신의 시스템으로는 적합하지 못하다. 이에 현재 연구개발이 진행되고 있는 방식 직접변환(Direct-Conversion)방식이다. 직접변환방식은 무선주파수 대역을 바로 기저대역을 하향변환 하므로써, 부가적인 부품의 사용과 소비전력의 감소에 상당한 이점이 있다. 이에 직접변환방식에 대한 이론적 설명과 함께 현재 무선통신 시스템으로 사용하기 위해 해결해야될 과제인 DC-Offset의 설명과 그 제거방법중의 하나인 AC-Coupling 기법의 시스템 적용으로 인한 시스템의 성능향상을 예측하고자한다

Seismic analysis of dam-foundation-reservoir coupled system using direct coupling method

  • This paper presents seismic analysis of concrete gravity dams considering soil-structure-fluid interaction. Displacement based plane strain finite element formulation is considered for the dam and foundation domain whereas pressure based finite element formulation is considered for the reservoir domain. A direct coupling method has been adopted to obtain the interaction effects among the dam, foundation and reservoir domain to obtain the dynamic responses of the dam. An efficient absorbing boundary condition has been implemented at the truncation surfaces of the foundation and reservoir domains. A parametric study has been carried out considering each domain separately and collectively based on natural frequencies, crest displacement and stress at the neck level of the dam body. The combined frequency of the entire coupled system is very less than that of the each individual sub-system. The crest displacement and neck level stresses of the dam shows prominent enhancement when coupling effect is taken into consideration. These outcomes suggest that a complete coupled analysis is necessary to obtain the actual responses of the concrete gravity dam. The developed methodology can easily be implemented in finite element code for analyzing the coupled problem to obtain the desired responses of the individual subdomains.

유전체 공진기의 직접결합에 의한 K-Band 저위상잡음 발진기 설계 (A Design of K-Band Low Phase noise Oscillator by Direct Coupling of K-band Dielectric Resonator)

  • 본 논문에서는 직접결합에 의한 저 위상잡음 유전체 공진기 설계를 위하여, 고유전율의 유전체 공진기와 마이크로스트립선로 사이의 결합계수에 대해 분석하였으며, 고유전율로 인한 Q값의 보완을 위한 병렬궤환 회로 적용한 유전체 공진 발진기의 위상잡음을 분석하였다. 유전체 공진기의 위상잡음 분석과 결합계수의 분석을 통하여 고안정 유전체 공진 발진기를 최적화 설계한 결과 20.25GHz 유전체 공진 발진기의 ${\epsilon}_r$=30인 유전체 공진기를 사용한 경우 결합계수가 약 3.6의 값을 나타낼 때 20.25GHz에서 위상잡음은 -84.3dBc/Hz@1KHz를 나타냄을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과로 K-Band 에서도 주파수 체배 방식에 의한 위상잡음 손실을 방지하는 직접결합 설계 방안을 제시하였다.
