With an increase in the size and power rate of ship, the stern tube bearing has become subject to severer operation conditions. Particularly it is expected to be exposed to extremely so severe lubrication conditions during low rotational operation that there is strong demand for clarifying the oil film characteristics of the stern tube bearing at the design stage with accuracy. So in this study, we conducted an analysis of the stern tube bearing characteristics taking arbitrary three-dimensional deflection of the shaft into consideration.

Aluminum nanotube has been fabricated by a physical vapor deposition/atmospheric pressure injection using an anodic porous alumina film as a template. The pore external-, and inside diameters and the length of the aluminum nanotubes fabricated by this method are 60 nm, 35 nm and 2 $\mu$m, respectively. The structure of the fabricated aluminum nanotubes was examined by a kind of chemical treatment as extraction of copper on the cross-sectional area of these aluminum tubes in a mixed solution of $CuCl_2$ and HCl by difference of ionization tendency between aluminum and copper. The composition of the aluminum nanotube was identified by the two dimensional Hybrid Plasma Equipment Model (HPEM) employing the inductively coupled plasma.
Anomalous scaling behaviors such as significantly large growth exponent (${\beta}$) and small reciprocal of dynamic exponent (1/z) values for many molecular crystalline thin films have been reported. In this study, the variation of scaling exponent values and consequent growth behaviors of molecular thin films were more quantitatively analysed using a (1+1)-dimensional surface lateral diffusion model. From these simulations, influence of step edge barriers and grain boundaries of molecular thin films on the various scaling exponent values were elucidated. The simulation results for the scaling exponents were also well consistent with the experimental data for previously reported molecular thin film systems.
In recently designed diesel engines, the running conditions for piston pin bearings have become very severe due to combustion pressure and temperature increase. In this paper, it will be investigated the tendency of piston pin rotating motion by calculating the friction coefficient at piston pin bearings, the oil film thickness and the frictional torques induced by hydrodynamic shear stress. Finally, the pressure distributions on the oil film of piston pin bearings will be found by two-dimensional lubrication analysis in order to help the optimum design of the bearings of piston pin. Specially, it is investigated how the changes in combustion pressure at exhaust and intake stroke and the pressure-viscosity index effect on the film pressure distribution.
Using materials with high thermal conductivity is a matter of great concern in the field of thermal management. In this study, we present our experimental results on an important physical property of carbon nanotube (CNT) films, two-dimensional thermal conductivity obtained by using an optical method based on Raman spectroscopy. We prepared four kinds of CNT films to investigate the effect of CNT type on heat spreading performance of films. This first comparative study using the optical method shows that the arc-discharge single-walled carbon nanotubes yield the best heat spreading film. And we observed thermal conductivity values of CNT films with various transmittances and found that the Raman method works as long as the sample is a transparent film. This study provides useful information on characterization of thermal conduction in transparent CNT films and could be an important step toward high-performance carbon-based heat spreading films.
We studied the crystallization behavior of amorphous PbTiO3 thin film grown at 30$0^{\circ}C$ by RF magnetron sputtering on Pt substrate. Crystallization to full perovskite phase was observed after annealing at 475$^{\circ}C$, for 9min, without PbO volatilization. The higher the annealing temperature, the shorter the time required for crystallization. The isothermal kinetic study at 475$^{\circ}C$ showed that the Avrami constant was approximately 4, which implies that the crystallization can be characterized by isotropic 3-dimensional growth with a constant nucleation rate. The TEM study revealed that the crystallized thin film was composed of very fine (20~100nm) grains oriented randomly without any evidence of 90$^{\circ}$domain boundaries.
In the manufacturing process of joining of aluminum alloy and polymer, the strength of the metal-polymer joining is greatly influenced by the nanostructure of the oxide film. In this study, we investigated the dependence of joining strength on the thickness, structure, pore formation and surface roughness of the formed film. After the two-step anodization process, the surface oxide layer became thinner and rougher resulting in higher joining strength with the polymer. More specifically, after the two-step anodization, the surface roughness, Ra increased from 2.3 to 3.2 ㎛ with pore of three-dimensional (3D) nanostructure, and the thickness of the oxide film was thinned from 350 to 250 nm. Accordingly, the joining strength of the aluminum alloy with polymer increased from 23 to 30 MPa.
In recent years, there has been large interest in the fabrication of the self organized nanoscale structures since not only their potential utilization in electronic, optoelectronic, and magnetic devices but also their fundamental interest such as uniformity and regularization. An attractive candidate of these materials is anodic porous alumina film(Al$_2$O$_3$) which is formed by the anodization of aluminum in an appropriate acid solution. In this study to fabricate the porous alumina film with very uniform and nearly parallel pores the anodization was carried out under constant voltage mode in 0.3M oxalic acid as an electrolyte. The hexagonally ordered arrays with a few $\mu\textrm{m}$ in size two-dimensional polycrystalline structure were obtained of which pore densities were 1.1${\times}$10$\^$10//$\textrm{cm}^2$.
The objective of this work is to propose calibration facility in which a thin film type heat flux sensor can be calibrated under convective flow condition by using a small wind tunnel with the constant temperature plate condition. A small wind tunnel has been built to produce a boundary layer shear flow above a constant temperature copper plate. 12-independent copper blocks, thin film heaters, insulators and temperature controllers were used to keep the temperature of flat plate constant at a specified temperature. Three commercial thin film-type heat flux sensors were tested. Convective calibrations of these gages were performed over the available heat flux range of $1.4{\sim}2.5kW/m^2$. The uncertainty in the heat flux measurements in the convective-type heat flux calibration facility was ${\pm}2.07%$. Non-dimensional sensitivity is proposed to compare the sensitivity calibrated by manufacturer and that of experiment conducted in this study.
The diagnostic value of a intra oral film is related to projecting technic and interpretation. The intra-oral film is a single plane representation of a three dimensional object, therefore superimposition is inevitablly present. The purpose of this article is to show how foreign objects in the jaw may be localized. The author used double exposure technics, that are changed angulation of vertical or horizontal to one film. The obtained results are as fallow: 1. In the upper anterior region, the moving distance of the labially impacted reference object was greater than that of the palatally impacted one. 2. In the upper molar region, the moving distance of the mesiobuccal root apex was the greatest and that of palatal root apex was the shortest. 3. In the lower molar region, the change of the alveolar bone level in the buccal side was greater than that of lingual side.
