  • This paper introduces main activities of ISO/TC 108/SC 3 and published standards. Two working groups (WG 1 and WG 6) have been orgnized to review and revise ISO standards, specifically related to measurement and calibration subjects of vibration and shocks. A new joint working group (JWG1) with IEC/SC 47E (Semiconductor acceleration calibration) has started to deal with calibration methods for analog and digital output MEMS accelerometers. Finally, Published ISO standards, technically super-visored by ISO/TC 108/SC 3, are listed in this paper to help readers understand their main contents.

Development of standard calibration equipment for the rain gauges

  • Because the rain gauges of tipping bucket type can easily use the digital signal, the rain gauges are widely used for the meteorological observation. In general, the resolution of rain gauges of tipping bucket type can be categorized by the 0.1mm, 0.5mm, and 1.0mm classes. But, the error of the tipping bucket rain gauges is made by the intensity of rainfalls and is expected to make the standard calibration method for error measurement. Thus, we developed the hardware of standard calibration facility for rain gauges by weighting measurement method and proposed the standard procedure by rainfall intensity in this study Also, we calculated the error for the rainfall intensity and obtained useful result through the proposed calibration method.

  • This paper proposes the robot inverse calibration method using a neural networks. A highorder networks called Pi-Sigma networks has been used. The Pi-Sigma networks uses linear summing units in the hidden layer and product unit in output layer. The inverse calibration model which compensates the difference of joint variables only between measuring value and analytic value about the desired pose(position, orientation) of a robot is proposed. The compensated values are determined by using the weights obtained from the learning process of the neural networks previously. To prove the reasonableness, the SCARA type direct drive robot(4-DOF) and anthropomorphic robot(6-DOF) are simulated. It shows that the proposed calibration method can reduce the errors of the joint variables from $\pm$2$^{\circ}$to $\pm$ 0.1$^{\circ}$.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of the HSPEXP expert system for the calibration of the Hydrological Simulation Program - Fortran (HSPF) for the study watershed. HSPEXP offers advice to the modeler, suggesting parameter changes that might result in better representation of a river basin and provides explanations supporting the recommended parameter changes. The study watershed, Sancheong, is located within the Nakdong River Basin and having the size of $1,072.4km^2$. Input data for the HSPF model were obtained from the landuse map, digital elevation map, meteorological data and others. Water flow data from 2006 to 2008 were used for calibration and from 2009 to 2010 were for validation. Using the HSPEXP expert system, hydrological parameters were adjusted based on total volume, then low flows, storm flows, and finally seasonal flows. For the calibration and validation period, all the HSPEXP model performance criteria were satisfied.

  • This paper presents an implementation of a calibration circuit to correct the gain error, DC offset and sampling clock phase error generated in the process of converting digital pixels to analog pixels to drive an analog-driven 4K UHD LCOS panel. The proposed calibration circuit consists of a gain and DC offset adjustment circuit and a sampling clock phase adjustment circuit. The calibration circuit is implemented with an FPGA device, and video amplifiers.

  • Recent increase in the number of pixels of a non-metric digital camera encourages to use it for close-range photogrammetry such as modeling cultural asset and buildings. However, these cameras have to be calibrated far close-range photogrammetry application. For self-calibration, an appropriate pbotograrnmetric network and object field should be designed. In this paper, we studied the effect on self-calibration accuracy changes according to the change of the number of ground control points, dimensions of the ground control points, and the combination of images. We concluded that self-calibration with three photos including a vertical photo can give the stable accuracy of interior orientation parameters and 10 ground control points on a plane can give high accuracy for object reconstruction.

  • Recently, the direct georeferencing has been becoming a common method in the aerial photogrammetry. As this direct georeferencing method using converged sensor of the digital photogrammetry camera and GPS(Global Positioning System)/INS(Inertial navaigation System), more rapid and accurate aerial photogrammetry has improved following advanced performance in photogrammetry. Since the accuracy of EO parameters from the direct georeferencing is determined by GPS/INS accuracy, it is significant to calculate the exact attitude information using values of INS rotations. For following calculations, the misalignment, such as INS rotation and the gap of GPS/INS, has to be decided. Because the number of ground control points are used for tirangulation and boresight calibration, those results should be different according to array and location of ground control points. In the study, those location and array of ground control points were tested to be used boresight calibration. As a result, there is no significant change of misalignment and exterior orienation parameters in the case when ground control points were at all course. On the contrarily, the difference has been shown in the case of no ground control point at course.

Error Calibration of Initial Value of Weight Measuring Sensors with Different Feature of Forklift (특성이 다른 지게차 적재 중량 센서의 초기 값 오차 보정)

  • The calibration method of the initial value error obtained in the weight measurement through anchor bolt type strain gauge sensor is proposed. The strain gauge sensor is developed for preventing the overturning of forklift, which is the most frequent type of safety-accident in industry. It was confirmed that the initial value error is caused from the physical and mechanical error of anchor bolt, and the environmental problem. Since the elimination of these causes falls outside the realm of this research, we find out the calibrated values based on all the causes, and we adjust the initial values of analog-to-digital convertor (ADC) module consisted of strain gauge sensor block using the calibrated values. We use the linear interpolation method for our calibration. We confirm that four sensor modules have the different under 5% between the real weight and the measured value in the experiment applied with the calibration of initial values. The low correlation between the real weights and ADC values is also improved through the proposed calibration.

  • This work proposes a 15b 50MS/s CMOS pipeline ADC based on digital code-error calibration. The proposed ADC adopts a four-stage pipeline architecture to minimize power consumption and die area and employs a digital calibration technique in the front-end stage MDAC without any modification of critical analog circuits. The front-end MDAC code errors due to device mismatch are measured by un-calibrated back-end three stages and stored in memory. During normal conversion, the stored code errors are recalled for code-error calibration in the digital domain. The signal insensitive 3-D fully symmetric layout technique in three MDACs is employed to achieve a high matching accuracy and to measure the mismatch error of the front-end stage more exactly. The prototype ADC in a 0.18um CMOS process demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 0.78LSB and 3.28LSB. The ADC, with an active die area of $4.2mm^2$, shows a maximum SNDR and SFDR of 67.2dB and 79.5dB, respectively, and a power consumption of 225mW at 2.5V and 50MS/s.
