Developing an EPG Feature Model and Designing its Testcases for Improving EPG Development Process (전자프로그램가이드 개발 프로세스 향상을 위한 EPG 피처 모델 개발과 테스트케이스의 설계)

  • EPG (Electronic Program Guide), which was born with the development of digital broadcasting technology, is becoming a successful data service in the environment that a digital broadcasting station operates more than one hundred channels. In the circumstance, the request for the development or renewal of EPG frequently occurs and so the developers are looking for ways to improve the efficiency of the EPG development. This paper addresses the need of the developers by devising an EPG feature model based on FODA and the test-cases for each feature of the model. Utilizing the EPG feature model and the test-cases, the EPG development process, especially the phases of requirement analysing and test-case designing can be improved.

  • MPEG-21 is an on-progress project of the Moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG) that has been started in many independent parts such as part for standardizing the declaration of a digital item (MPEG-21 Part 2: Digital Item Declaration), right expression language (MPEG-21 Part S: Rights Expression Language), way to process the digital item (MPEG-21 Part 10: Digital Item Processing), etc. All this part is intended to form a framework to enable transparent and augmented use of multimedia resources across a wide range of networks and devices (1). In this paper, we show our research initiative to develop a web-based application that utilized many parts of MPEG-21 technology. The implemented concept uses a digital item and license providers in the server side while the MPEG-21 Conformant application is implemented as a plug-in application that will be downloaded to the user terminal when user accesses the webpage for the frist time. The result of this research shows that with some combination of MPEG-21 parts, we can develop an authorized multimedia delivery and consumption application.

Multi-View Video Processing: IVR, Graphics Composition, and Viewer

  • Multi-view video has recently gained much attraction from academic and commercial fields because it can deliver the immersive viewing of natural scenes. This paper presents multi-view video processing being composed of intermediate view reconstruction (IVR), graphics composition, and multi-view video viewer. First we generate virtual views between multi-view cameras using depth and texture images of the input videos. Then we mix graphic objects to the generated view images. The multi-view video viewer is developed to examine the reconstructed images and composite images. As well, it can provide users with some special effects of multi-view video. We present experimental results that validate our proposed method and show that graphic objects could become the inalienable part of the multi-view video.

  • In the 21s1 century, it may be possible to offer comprehensive service by integrating all communication media under the development of digital technology without the classification of broadcasting and communication. In addition, it will be begun to perform HDTV broadcasting by focusing on the Metropolitan area in 2001yr and will permit over 100 channels for satellite communication, thus multi-channel TV broadcasting age has come in Korea. Therefore, this study is to identify the future environment of TV broadcasting and service area in ISDB age and to present new interactive type publication satellite TV transmission system, which provides customizing type digital screen book publication, by analyzing satellite broadcasting technology to create Korean cultural area around the Korean peninsula.

  • Audio mixer is an electronic device which performs a mixing of multiple audio signals. Digital mixer having various functions and scalability is spreaded thanks to advanced DSP and IT technology. However, digital mixer is more vulnerable to stability comparing to conventional analog mixer in the digital error or software error sense because its control is executed by SW. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a multi-channel digital analog hybrid mixer scheme, digital mixer error detection mechanism and malfunctioning switching technique. Also we develop the audio mixer having digital-analog hybrid structure. By simulation, we can sense the error of digital mixer except power loss in a 120ms, change into analog mixer mode automatically and provide continuous broadcasting function without mixer function loss.

  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting is the next generation broadcasting service which enables various digital multimedia contents, i.e., audio and video, and data access for mobile users. However, due to the bandwidth limitation, the spatial resolution is limited to CIF(Common Interleaved Frame). The Advanced Terrestrial DMB (AT-DMB) secures additional bandwidth by adopting hierarchical modulation transmission technology and provides high data rate and quality for mobile multimedia broadcasting services with scalable video coding(SVC). This paper proposes scalable video coding technology for AT-DMB which enables high quality mobile multimedia broadcasting services that exceeds current DMB service's quality and contents capability.

  • A novel audio watermark algorithm, the Modified Patchwork Algorithm, is applied to the speech to show that it is effective for digital broadcasting systems. Digital broadcasting system does not separate speech from audio data. However. speech data is very important especially for educational broadcasting. Speech can carry more information than video data. Thus, intellectual property management and protection for speech data is urgent. This paper addresses the technical issues, speech watermark algorithm, and its robustness against malicious attacks.

  • Recently, research started to focus on Digital Multimedia Broadcasting(DMB), while the DMB service is already being launched to provide high quality audio, video and data broadcasting in Korea. Therefore, the demand for multimedia contents is also rose very sharply. In this paper, we introduced an MPEG-4 contents authoring system with mobile device for Digital Multimedia Broadcasting. Our system allows both single-handed and collaborative authoring modo. Further more, to overcome the delaytime for decoding the BIFS information, we also introduced an efficient algorithm to generate dynamic and light BIFS information.

  • As the number of digital content service providers increases, a variety of digital rights management (DRM) systems appear without supporting interoperability. The lack of interoperability in DRM systems causes inconvenience to customers, especially when they want to play content through multiple devices manufactured by different vendors. In this letter, we propose a novel method to support interoperability between different DRM systems. The proposed technique aims to build an open framework structure which satisfies DRM vendors' requirements by enhancing the security of intellectual property management and the protection tools.

  • This paper describes design and fabrication issues of the SiP(System in Package) one-chip for a portable digital broadcasting receiver. It includes RF tuner chip, demodulator chip and passive components for the receiver system. When we apply the SiP one-chip technology to the broadcasting receiver, the system board size can be reduced from $776mm^2$ to $144mm^2$. SiP one-chip has an advantage that the area reduces more 81% than separated chips. Also the sensitivity performance advances -1dBm about 36 channels in the RF weak electric field, the power consumption reduces about 2mW and the C/N keeps on the same level.
