To analyze the crime scene, the role of digital evidence such as CCTV and black box is very important. Such digital evidence is often damaged due to device defects or intentional deletion. In this case, the deleted video can be restored by well-known techniques like the frame-based recovery method. Especially, the data such as the video can be generally fragmented and saved in the case of the memory used almost fully. If the fragmented video were recovered in units of images, the sequence of the recovered images may not be continuous. In this paper, we proposed a new video restoration method to match the sequence of recovered images. First, the images are recovered through a frame-based recovery technique. Then, after analyzing the time information marked on the images, the time information was extracted and recognized via optical character recognition (OCR). Finally, the recovered images are rearranged based on the time information obtained by OCR. For performance evaluation, we evaluate the recovery rate of our proposed video restoration method. As a result, it was shown that the recovery rate for the fragmented video was recovered from a minimum of about 47% to a maximum of 98%.
The optical flow theory can be utilized for automatically tracking and positioning homologous points in digital video (DV) image sequences. In this paper, the Lucas-Kanade optical flow estimation (LKOFE) method and the normalized cross-correlation (NCC) method are compared and analyzed using the DV image sequences acquired by our SONY DCRPC115 DV camera. Thus, an improved optical flow estimation procedure, called 'Iterated Optical Flow Estimation (IOFE)', is presented. Our test results show that the trackable range of 3${\sim}$4 pixels in the LKOFE procedure can be apparently enlarged to 30 pixels in the IOFE.
Super resolution image reconstruction method refers to image processing algorithms that produce a high resolution(HR) image from observed several low resolution(LR) images of the same scene. This method is proved to be useful in many practical cases where multiple frames of the same scene can be obtained, such as satellite imaging, video surveillance, video enhancement and restoration, digital mosaicking, and medical imaging. In this paper we applied super resolution reconstruction method in spatial domain to video sequences. Test images are adjacently sampled images from continuous video sequences and overlapped for high rate. We constructed the observation model between the HR images and LR images applied by the Maximum A Posteriori(MAP) reconstruction method that is one of the major methods in the super resolution grid construction. Based on this method, we reconstructed high resolution images from low resolution images and compared the results with those from other known interpolation methods.
Video Completion refers to a computer vision technique which restores damaged images by filling missing pixels with suitable color in a video sequence. We propose a new video completion technique to fill in image holes which are caused by removing an unnecessary object in a video sequence, where two objects cross each other in the presence of camera motion. We remove the closer object from a camera which results in image holes. Then these holes are filled by color information of some others frames. First of all, spatio-temporal volumes of occluding and occluded objects are created according to the centroid of the objects. Secondly, a temporal search technique by voxel matching separates and removes the occluding object. Finally. these holes are filled by using spatial search technique. Seams on the boundary of completed pixels we removed by a simple blending technique. Experimental results using real video sequences show that the proposed technique produces new completed videos.
Endoscopy has become a crucial diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in clinical areas. Over the past three years, we have developed a computerized system to record and store clinical data pertaining to endoscopic surgery of laparascopic cholecystectomy, pelviscopic endometriosis, and surgical arthroscopy. In this study, we developed a computer system, which is composed of a frame yabber, a sound board, a VCR control board, a LAN card and EDMS(endoscopic data management software. Also, computer system has controled peripheral instruments such as a color video printer, a video cassette recorder, and endoscopic input/output signals(image and doctor's comment). Digital endoscopic data management system is based on open architecture and a set of widely available industry standards, namely: windows 3.1 as a operating system, TCP/IP as a network protocol and a time sequence based database that handles both images and doctor's cotnments. For the purpose of data storage, we used MOD and CD-R. Digital endoscopic system was designed to be able to store, recreate, change, and compress signals and medical images.
In this paper, we present two types of digital image stabilization (DIS) schemes for mobile video communications. In the first scheme, the DIS system, which is used as a preprocessor of the video encoder, compensates the camera’s undesirable shakes before encoding. This method can reduce the bit rate of encoded video sequence by attenuating the prediction error to be encoded. In the second proposed scheme, the DIS system is coupled with the video decoder. The second scheme uses the K-means clustering algorithm to estimate the camera motion using motion vectors decoded from the received video stream. Simulation results show that the first scheme improves coding efficiency, while the second scheme is computationally efficient since it does not require motion estimation.

In this paper, a temporal color and luminance variation suppression algorithm for a digital video sequence is proposed by considering time-varying light source. When a video sequence is sampled with the periodically emitting illuminant and with a short exposure time, the color rolling phenomenon occurs, where the color and the luminance of the image periodically change from field to field. In conventional signal processing techniques, the luminance variation remaining in the resultant video sequence degrades the constancy of the image sequence. In the proposed method, we obtain video sequences with constant luminance and color by compensating for the inter-field luminance variation. Based on a motion detection technique, the amount of the luminance variation for each channel is estimated on the background of the sequence without the effects of moving objects. The experimental results clearly show that our strategy efficiently estimated the illuminant change without being affected by moving objects, and the variations were efficiently reduced.

Image and video dehazing is a popular topic in the field of computer vision and digital image processing. A fast, optimized dehazing algorithm was recently proposed that enhances contrast and reduces flickering artifacts in a dehazed video sequence by minimizing a cost function that makes transmission values spatially and temporally coherent. However, its fixed-size block partitioning leads to block effects. The temporal cost function also suffers from the temporal non-coherence of newly appearing objects in a scene. Further, the weak edges in a hazy image are not addressed. Hence, a video dehazing algorithm based on well designed spectral clustering is proposed. To avoid block artifacts, the spectral clustering is customized to segment static scenes to ensure the same target has the same transmission value. Assuming that edge images dehazed with optimized transmission values have richer detail than before restoration, an edge intensity function is added to the spatial consistency cost model. Atmospheric light is estimated using a modified quadtree search. Different temporal transmission models are established for newly appearing objects, static backgrounds, and moving objects. The experimental results demonstrate that the new method provides higher dehazing quality and lower time complexity than the previous technique.

In this paper, we deal with a real time implementation of the integrated image-based navigation parameter extraction system using the TMS320C80 MVP(multimedia video processor). Our system consists of relative position estimation and absolute position compensation, which is further divided into high-resolution aerial image matching, DEM(Digital elevation model) matching, and IRS (Indian remote sensing) satellite image matching. Those algorithms are implemented in real time using the MVP. To achieve a real-time operation, an attempt is made to partition the aerial image and process the partitioned images in parallel using the four parallel processors in the MVP. We also examine the performance of the implemented integrated system in terms of the estimation accuracy, confirming a proper operation of the our system.
