디지털 TV EPG 사용자 요구 기능 도출 및 워킹 프로토타잎 개발 (Deriving required functions and developing a working prototype of EPG on digital TV)

  • Multichannel on digital TV not only gave opportunities to the TV audience to view a wide range of programs. but also made it difficult for them to search for the program which they plan to view among over 1000 programs broadcasted on more than 100 channels. In this paper the functions of EPG (Electronic Program Guides) required by the users on digital TV were derived from the systematic analysis of multichannel viewing situations. In the situation analysis the situations where they viewed programs on more than 100 channels were generated systematically and the viewing processes in those situations were analyzed to identify user needs and derive the required functions of EPG. We surveyed the viewing behavior of the audience who subscribed to a digital satellite broadcast. SkyPerfecTV. in Tokyo. Japan. The purpose of the survey was to verify the validity of the functions derived from the situation analysis and to identify hidden user needs which were difficult to in the situation analysis. The functions were implemented on a working prototype of EPG based on a digital TV simulator which broadcasts 500 programs on 100 channels and can be controlled by three working prototypes of personal remote controllers. The working prototype will be used in Participatory Design to make it possible for the users to experience and verify the usefulness of the required functions of EPG and also find problems in user interface design of EPG

광 위상 공액기의 최적 파라미터 값 도출을 통한 0.96 Tbps WDM 신호의 BER 개선 (BER Improvements of 0.96 Tbps WDM Signals through Optimal Parameter Values of Optical Phase Conjugator)

  • In this paper, it is investigated that the limitation due to the asymmetry of optical power and chromatic dispersion with respect to optical phase conjugator (OPC) for compensating optical signal distortion in WDM system is overcomed by using OPC position offset and optimal dispersion coefficients of fiber sections, which depend on OPC position offset. It is confirmed that overall WDM channels are efficiently compensated by applying the optimal parameter values obtained from the proposed method into 24 channels ${\times}40$ Gbps WDM system with non zero - dispersion shifted fiber (NZ-DSF) of 1, 000 km, such as power penalties of inter-channel are reduce to almost 3.5 dB from the infinite value. It is also confirmed that the flexible design of WDM system with OPC is possible by using the optimal parameters, in which OPC is placed at ${\pm}15km$ from 500 km for efficiently compensating overall channels. Thus, the methods proposed in this research will be expected to alternate with the method of making a symmetrical distribution of power and local dispersion in real optical link which generates a serious problem if it was not made but it is the condition in the case of applying the OPC into multi-channels WDM system.

  • The production and authoring of digital multimedia contents are most important fields in multimedia technology. Nowadays web-based technology and related multimedia software technology are growing in the IT industry and these technologies are evolving most rapidly in our life. The technology of digital audio and video processing is utilizing rapidly to improve quality of our life, Also we are more interested in high sense and artistic feeling in the music and entertainment areas by use of three dimensional (3D) digital sound technology continuously as well as 3D digital video technology. The service field of digital audio contents is increasing rapidly through the Internet. And the society of Internet users wants the audio contents service with better quality. Recently Internet users are not satisfying the sound quality with 2 channels stereo but seeking the high quality of sound with 5,] channels such as 3D audio of the movie films. But it might be needed proper hardware equipments for the service of 3D sound to satisfy this demand. In this paper, we expand the simple 3D audio generator developed and propose a web-based music bank by the software development of 3D audio generation player in 3D sound environment with two speakers minimizing hardware equipments, Also we believe that this study would contribute greatly to digital 3D sound service of high quality for music and entertainment mania.

고속 디지털 시스템에서 전달 시간차의 보정 모델링 및 구현 (The timing do-skew modeling and design in a high speed digital system)

  • In this paper, the timing do-skew modeling for a high speed logic tester channels is developed. The time delay of each channel in a logic tester are different from other channels and it can produce timing error in a test. To get the best timing accuracy in the test with a logic tester, the timing skew must be compensated. The timing skew of channels is due to the difference of time delay of pin-electronics devices composing channels and length of metal line placed on PCB. The expected timing difference of channels can be calculated according to the specifications of pin electronics devices and strip line modeling of PCB. With the calculated delay time, the timing skew compensation circuit has been designed. With the timing skew compensation circuit, the timing calibration of a logic tester can be peformed easily and automatically without other time measuring instruments. The calibration method can then be directly applied to logic testers in mass production lines.

  • 디지털 방송의 출현으로 시청자는 다양한 TV 채널들을 제공 받을 수 있게 되었다. 하지만, 많은 TV 채널들의 제공으로 시청자가 자신이 원하는 방송프로그램을 찾는 것이 어려워졌다. 이러한 어려움을 해소하기 위하여, TV 서비스 제공 업체에서는 EPG(Electronic Program Guide)로 시청자에게 TV 채널들의 정보를 제공하고 있다. 하지만 TV 채널과 방송프로그램 수의 증가로 인해 EPG는 정보의 홍수(Information Overload) 문제와 사용할 때에 긴 지연시간(Time-consuming)을 발생시켰다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 시청 패턴에 기반하여 시청자가 선호하는 방송프로그램이 현재 방영되고 있는 채널만 걸러내어 추천해주는 채널 필터링 시스템(Channel Filtering System, CFS)을 설계하고 구현한다. 구현된 시스템은 사용중인 TV 또는 셋탑박스의 교체를 요구하지도 않을 뿐만 아니라, 시청자가 업/다운 버튼만 누르면 사용자가 선호하는 방송 프로그램이 방영되고 있지 않은 채널은 자동적으로 지나치게 함으로써, 시청자의 사용 편의성을 증대하도록 하였다.

소상인 디지털 전환 지원 정책에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Support Policy for Digital Transformation of Small Businesses)

  • Purpose - In this study, we discuss the current status and barriers of digital transformation focused on small businesses. More specifically, this study consists of two studies. The purpose of study 1 is to investigate the effect of digitization of small businesses on the sales of stores and the number of visiting customers. The purpose of Study 2 is to examine the status and obstacles of online channels use by small businesses. Research design, data, and methodology - In Study 1, we will examine the changes in sales and visitor numbers of stores that are rapidly adapting to digital transformation among small business. For this, we utilize the actual situation of store management survey conducted by the Small Enterprise and Market Service. Specifically, multiple regression equations were used to determine whether blogs and online shopping malls were operating, and the proportion of credit cards to sales as independent variables and sales and number of visiting customers as dependent variables. Next, in Study 2, we surveyed the 15 small business owners in the latest survey on the actual situation of store management survey conducted in 2015, and conducted an in-depth interview to examine the barriers to the use of online channels by small business. Results - As a result of study 1, it is found that the small business who run the blogs have higher sales and visits than the small business who do not. However, there is no difference in the sales and the number of visiting customers between the stores that operate the online shopping malls and those that do not. Second, the higher the proportion of credit cards, the higher the sales and the number of visiting customers. In study 2, we analyzed the barriers to the expansion of online channels by in-depth interviews. Interviews show that barriers to access to online channels are limited by search neutrality, high commission burden, and low bargaining power. These problems are caused by the insufficiency of small business compared to online and mobile portal and O2O platform vendors. Conclusions - This study suggests that small business who have difficulty in establishing direct online channels need digital transformation of small business. In addition, when using such an external platform, we have identified the problems that small business face.

The Design and Implementation of a TV Tuner for the Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting

  • The DTV (Digital TV) tuner for an 8-VSB (Vestigial Side-Band) modulation was developed to meet the requirements of the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee). The double frequency conversion and the active tracking filter in the front-end were used to cancel interferences between adjacent channels and multi-channels by suppressing the IF beat and the Image frequency. However, It was impossible to get frequency mapping between the tracking filter and the first VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) in the existing DTV tuner structure which differs from the NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) tuner. This paper, therefore, suggests an assailable structure and a new method for the automatic frequency selection by mapping the frequency characteristics over the tracking voltage and the combined HW which is composed of a Micro-controller, an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory), a DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter), an OP amplifier, and a switch driver.

A Linear Prediction Based Estimation of Signal-to-Noise Ratio in AWGN Channel

  • Most signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation techniques in digital communication channels derive the SNR estimates solely from samples of the received signal after the matched filter. They are based on symbol SNR and assume perfect synchronization and intersymbol interference (ISI)-free symbols. In severe channel distortion where ISI is significant, the performance of these estimators badly deteriorates. We propose an SNR estimator which can operate on data samples collected at the front-end of a receiver or at the input to the decision device. This will relax the restrictions over channel distortions and help extend the application of SNR estimators beyond system monitoring. The proposed estimator uses the characteristics of the second order moments of the additive white Gaussian noise digital communication channel and a linear predictor based on the modified-covariance algorithm in estimating the SNR value. The performance of the proposed technique is investigated and compared with other in-service SNR estimators in digital communication channels. The simulated performance is also compared to the Cram$\acute{e}$r-Rao bound as derived at the input of the decision circuit.

FM방송의 인접국 간섭환경에서 적응적 혼신보호비 변경에 의한 가용주파수 확보 방안 (Securing Method for Available Frequency by Changing Adaptive Protection Ratio in Adjacent Station Interference Environment of FM Broadcast)

  • 국내의 FM방송은 다양한 종류의 신규 방송서비스를 실시하기 위한 채널 요구가 점점 증대하고 있지만 가용채널이 포화된 상태다. 전 세계적으로 부족한 방송 스펙트럼 이용효율을 극대화하기 위해 FM방송의 채널간격을 200kHz에서 100kHz로 축소하고, 아날로그 대역 옆에 디지털신호를 배치하는 IBOC(In Band On Channel), DRM+(Digital Radio Mondial+) 등 많은 연구가 있었다. 그러나 인접국간 전파간섭으로 인해 출력을 저감할 수 밖에 없었다. 본 논문에서는 1986년도의 혼신보호비에 대해 문제점을 파악하고, 송신출력과 방송품질의 손실 없이 현대의 DSP(Digital Signal Processing) 기술에 맞추어 혼신보호비를 7~10db까지 획기적으로 개선하는 방안을 제시하였다. 그리고 동일사이트에서 방송매체간 최소 주파수 이격폭을 800kHz에서 400kHz 또는 600kHz로 축소함으로써 현재보다 2배 많은 가용채널을 확보 할 수 있는 가능성을 검토하였다.

Research on Digital Complex-Correlator of Synthetic Aperture Radiometer: theory and simulation result

  • A new digital correlator fur an airborne synthetic aperture radiometer was designed in order to replace the conventional analog correlator unit which will become very complicated while the number of channels is increasing. The digital correlator uses digital IQ demodulator instead of the intermediate frequency (IF) phase shifter to make the correlation processing performed digitally at base band instead of analogly at IF. This technique has been applied to the digital receiver in softradio. The down-converted IF signals from each pair of receiver channels become low rate base-band digital signals after under-sampled, Digitally Down-Converted (DDC), decimated and filtered by FIR filters. The digital signals are further processed by two digital multipliers (complex correlation), the products are integrated by the integrators and finally the outputs from the integrators compose of the real part and the imaginary part of a sample of the visibility function. This design is tested by comparing the results from digital correlators and that from analog correlators. They are agreed with each other very well. Due to the fact that the digital correlators are realized with the help of Analog-Digital Converter (ADC) chips and the FPGA technology, the realized volume, mass, power consumption and complexity turned out to be greatly reduced compared with that of the analog correlators. Simulations show that the resolution of ADC has an influence on the synthesized antenna patterns, but this can be neglected if more than 2bit is used.
