혼합층의 지연효과를 배제한 비정상 대향류 확산 화염의 소화 (The extinction of unsteady counterflow diffusion flame without the retardation effect of a mixing layer)

  • The extinction of unsteady diffusion flame was experimentally studied in an opposing jet counterflow burner using diluted methane. The stabilized flame was perturbed by linearly varying velocity change that was generated by pistons installed on both sides of the air and fuel stream. As the results, the extinction of unsteady flame is dependent not only on the history of unsteadiness, but also on the initial condition. We found that there are several unsteady effects on the flame extinction. First, the extinction strain rates of unsteady cases are extended well beyond steady state extinction limits. Second, as the slope of the strain rate change increases, the unsteady extinction strain rate becomes larger. Third, the extension of unsteady extinction strain rate becomes smaller as the initial strain rate increases. We also found that the extension of the extinction limit mainly results from the unsteady response of the reaction zone because there is no retardation effect of a mixing layer for our experimental condition.

Characteristics of Critical Pressure for a Beam Shape of the Anode Type ion Beam Source

  • We studied the critical pressure characteristics of an anode type ion beam source driven by both charge repulsion and diffusion mechanism. The critical pressure $P_{crit}$ of the diffusion type ion beam source was linearly decreased from 2.5 mTorr to 0.5 mTorr when the gas injection was varied in 3~10 sccm, while the $P_{crit}$ of the charge repulsion ion beam source was remained at 3.5 mTorr. At the gas injection of 10 sccm, the range of having normal beam shape in the charge repulsion ion beam source was about 6.4 times wider than that in the diffusion type ion beam source. An impurity of Fe 2p (KE = 776.68 eV) of 12.88 at. % was observed from the glass surface treated with the abnormal beam of the charge repulsion type ion beam source. The body temperature of the diffusion type ion beam source was observed to increase rapidly at the rate of $1.9^{\circ}C/min$ for 30 minutes and to vary slowly at the rate of $0.1^{\circ}C/min$ for 200 minutes for an abnormal beam and normal beam, respectively.

  • Numerical study on preferential diffusion effects in flame structure in $CH_4-H_2$ diffusion flames is conducted with detailed chemistry. Comparison of flame structures with mixture-averaged species diffusion and suppression of the diffusivities of $H_2$ and H was made. Discernible differences in flame structures are displayed with three species diffusion models. The behaviors of maximum flame temperatures with those species diffusion models are not explained by scalar dissipation rate but by the nature of chemical kinetics. It is seen that the modifcation of flame structure is mainly due to the preferential diffusion of H2 and thereby the nature of chemical kinetics. It is also found that the behaviors of major species with the three species diffusion models are addressed to the nature of chemical kinetics, and this is evident by examining importantly contributing reaction steps to the production and destruction of those chemical species.

  • The extraction rate of ginger from Korean-grown ginger root with supercritical carbon dioxide was measured as a function of flow rate of supercritical carbon dioxide, particle size, temperature and pressure. the extraction rate increased as the particle size decreased due to a decrease in the diffusion path. The extraction rate were independent of flow rate of supercritical carbon dioxide in a plot of ginger oil yield versus extraction time. This indicated that the extraction process is controlled by intraparticle diffusion within a particle of ginger root. In the case of temperature and pressure effect, the experimental results showed that the extraction rate decreased with an increase in temperature and increased with an increase in pressure.

  • The InP thin films grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) are widely used to optoelectronic devices such as laser diodes, wave-guides and optical modulators. Effects of various parameters controlling film growth rate such as gas-phase reaction rate constant, surface reaction rate constant and mass diffusivity are numerically investigated. Results show that at the upstream region where film growth rate increases with the flow direction, diffusion including thermal diffusion plays an important role. At the downstream region where the growth rate decreases with flow direction, film deposition mechanism is revealed as a mass-transport limited. Mass transport characteristics are also studied using systematic analyses.

  • 연료전지 시스템에서 잔류 수분의 제거과정은 연료전지의 성능 및 수명 관리를 위해 중요한 과정이다. 효과적인 수분 제거과정의 설계를 위해서는 연료전지내의 수분 제거 특성에 대한 이해가 필수적이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 연료전지의 다공성막인 가스확산층을 통한 수분증발량을 정상상태에서 측정하는 실험 기법을 개발하였다. 이 기법을 이용하여 연료전지의 잔류수분 제거 현상을 모사하는 실험장치를 개발하였다. 그리고 건조가스와 가스확산층의 변수가 수분에 미치는 영향을 실험적으로 측정하였다. 건조가스의 습도가 낮고, 유량이 높을수록 가스확산층을 통해 증발되는 수분량이 높았다. 또한 가스확산층의 두께가 얇을수록 수분 증발량이 높은 특성을 확인하였다.

  • Co$(dimethyl bipyridine)_3(ClO_4)_2$의 확산계수$(D_0)$와 전극반응속도상수$(K_0)$를 순환전압전류법과 대시간전류법으로 구하였다. 확산계수에 대한 용매, 농도, 주사속도 등의 영향과 반응속도상수에 대한 온도변화의 영향을 조사하였다. 25$^{\circ}C$에서 확산계수는 $5.54{\times}10^{-6 }cm^2/sec$이었고, 반응속도상수는 $2.39{\times}10^{-3 }/s$ 이었으며, 용매의 점도가 커질수록 봉우리전류값과 확산계수는 감소하였다. 반응속도상수에 대한 온도의 영향으로부터, ${\Delta}G^{\neq},\;{\Delta}H^{\neq},\;{\Delta}S$ 등의 열역학적 파라미터를 구하였다. 이 화합물은 $O_2$분자의 환원에서 봉우리전류를 크게 증가시키고, 환원전위를 양(+)전위방향으로 이동시키는 열역학적 전극촉매현상을 보였다.

Experimental Study on CO2 Diffusivity in Cementitious Materials

  • The carbonation of concrete is one of the major factors that cause durability problems in concrete structures. The rate of carbonation depends largely upon the diffusivity of carbon dioxide in concrete. The purpose of this study is to identify the diffusion coefficients of carbon dioxide for various concrete mixtures. To this end, several series of tests have been planned and conducted. The test results indicate that the diffusion coefficient increases with the increase of water-cement ratio. The diffusion coefficient decreases with the increase of relative humidity at the same water-cement ratio. The diffusion of carbon dioxide reached the steady state within about five hours after exposure. The content of aggregates also influences the diffusivity of carbon dioxide in concrete. It was found that the diffusion coefficient of cement paste is larger then that of concrete or mortar. The quantitative values of diffusivity of carbon dioxide in this study will allow more realistic assessment of carbonation depth in concrete structures.

  • 드리프트-확산 근사식을 이용한 1차원 유체 방정식으로부터 선형적 안정성 이론을 전개하여 Tosend 방전에서 전자 확산이 불안정성에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. 본 연구에서 관찰된 바에 따르면 Townsend 불안정성은 전자 확산과 공간 전하에 의해 형성된 전기장의 효과가 결합되어 발생하며, 공간전하에 의한 효과가 작은 영역, 즉 방전 전류가 낮은 영역에서는 전자 확산 효과가 커질수록 불안정이 더 빨리 진행된다는 것이 발견되었다.

TiNi 형상기억합금을 이용한 복합재료의 제조 및 계면 특성 (Fabrication and Interface Properties of TiNi/6061Al Composite)

  • TiNi shape memory alloy was shape memory heat-treated and investigated its mechanical properties with the variation of prestrain. Also 6061 Al matrix composites with TiNi shape memory alloy fiber as reinforcement have been fabricated by Permanent Mold Casting to investigate the microstructures and interface properties. Yield stress of TiNi wire was the most high in the case of before heat-treatment and then decreased as increasing heat-treatment time. In each heat-treatment condition, the yield stress of TiNi wire was not changed with increasing the amount of prestrain. The interface bonding of TiNi/6061Al composite was fine. There was a 2$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness of diffusion reaction layer at the interface. We could find out that this diffusion reaction layer was made by the mutual diffusion. The diffusion rate from Al base to TiNi wire was faster than that of reverse diffusion and the amount of the diffusion was also a little more than that of reverse.
