  • Mercurous Bromide ($Hg_2Br_2$) crystals hold promise for many acousto-optic and opto-electronic applications. This material is prepared in closed ampoules by the physical vapor transport (PVT) growth method. We investigate the effects of solutal convection on the crystal growth rate in a horizontal configuration for diffusive-convection conditions and purely diffusion conditions achievable in a low gravity environment. Our results show that the growth rate is decreased by a factor of one-fourth with a ten reduction of gravitational acceleration near y = 2.0 cm. For 0.1 $g_O$ the growth rate pattern exhibits relatively flat which is intimately related to diffusion-dominated processes. The growth rate nonuniformity is regardless of aspect ratio across the interfacial positions from 0 to 1.5. Also, the effect of a factor of the ten reduction in the gravitational acceleration is same to both Ar = 5 and 2. The enlargement in the molecular weight of B from 50 to 500 by a factor 4 causes a decrease in the maximum growth rate by the same factor, indicative of the effect of solutal gradients.

  • The turbulent hydrogen-air diffussion flame was studied experimentally and theoretically. Laser Doppler anemometer was used to measure the velocity field in the flame. Two mathematical models for the combustion reaction term, which are infinite rate model and finite rate to be derived eddy break-up model, were tested by comparing predictions with experimental data for coaxial turbulent diffusion flame. The agreement between the predictions and the data is, on the whole, very good in the case of employing the finite rate model rather than the infinite rate model. But, it was shown that the finite rate model was practically applicable to the predictions of the turbulent diffussion flame structure.

  • The Bass model is the most widely used model in research of new product diffusion because it presents a nice explanation on the diffusion process of new products. However, it has a limitation that its performance of fitness is lower as the available data become less and also, the diffusion curve is bell-shape and so, it can not represent the various diffusion patterns. Recently, a two-pieces Bass model is developed and applied to analyze diffusion of 10 products. The results are encouraging in terms of fitness. However, diffusion pattern is not dealt with in the paper. In this paper, analysis of diffusion pattern is in depth addressed in two-pieces Bass model. It is shown that the diffusion curves are divided into 3 types with respect to the peak adoption rate and each type is divided into 2 types further. Takeoff time of a diffusion process is analyzed by using the inflection point and regime-change time where it represents the point that imitation and innovation parameters change. Empirical studies for 68 products(28 domestic products and 40 USA products) are performed to analyze the diffusion pattern. Findings are that diffusion patterns of all products except 1 USA product show type I and regime-change time becomes shorter as the introduction time of the product is later in domestic products and regime-change time can be regarded as a takeoff time in 47% of total 68 products.

  • This experiment was carried out to know the mothod of changing the step of moisture content schedule with time in conventional kiln drying. For the purpose of this object. we made drying model by applying the moisture diffusion model by J.FSiau(1984) to average moisture content equation by J.Crank(1956) derived it from Fick's second law. And to verify this method of drying model. 2.5cm-thick boards and 5.0cm-thick dimension lumbers of Pinus densiflora were kiln-dried with the schedule of T11-C3 and T10-C4, respectively. And then the drying rates were investigated and compared with those calculated from drying model. The results obtained were as follows 1. Average drying rate and total drying time of board to dry to 6.5% moisture content were 0.64%/hr and 109hr., and those of dimension lumber to dry to 8.3% moisture content were 0.4%/hr. and 162hr., respectively. 2. The moisture content of shell and core decreased by equalizing treatment and increased by conditioning treatment both on board and dimension lumber. But the moisture gradient was lower after conditioning than after equalizing. 3. As the drying was proceeded, the transverse bound water diffusion coefficient all but linearly decreased, the water vapor diffusion coefficient abruptly curvilinearly increased, while the transverse diffusion coefficient curvilinearly decreased both on board and dimension lumber. But each of diffusion coefficients on board was larger than that on dimension lumber. 4. Compared to experimential drying rate of board. theoretical drying rate was larger at 30.0%-21.8% moisture content range and was similiar at 21.8%-5.4% moisture content. And in case of dimension lumber, the drying rate was similiar at 30.0%-16.1% moisture content range but theoretical drying rate was much lower at 16.1%-8.3% moisture content range. 5. The possibility of adapting this drying model to changing the moisture content schedule step with time was in the range of 21.8%-5.4% moisture content on board. And in the case of dimension lumber that was in the range of 30.0%-16.1% moisture content.

  • In this investigation, we have studied the diffusion of the $Cu^+$ ion in the Cu/Ta/SiOCH/Si and Cu/Ta/$SiO_2$/Si MIS-C structure. The Cu ions diffusion into the Ta barrier and SiOCH was examined by shift in flatband voltage of capacitance-voltage measurement and leakage current of current-voltage measurement. These evalution indicated that $Cu^+$ ion diffusion rate in Ta/SiOCH is considerably lower then the Ta/$SiO_2$ structure. And diffusion barrier Ta(50[nm]) is useful barrier against $Cu^+$ ion diffusion up to 450$^{\circ}C$.

  • Film growth rate and composition variation are numerically analyzed during the selective area growth of InGaN on the GaN triangular stripe microfacet in this study. Both the vapor phase diffusion and the surface diffusion are considered to determine the In composition on the InGaN surface. To obtain the In composition on the surface, flux of In atoms due to the surface diffusion is added to the concentration determined from the Laplace equation which is governing the gas phase diffusion. The solution model is validated by comparing the growth rates from the analyses to the experimental results of GaN and InN films. The In composition and resulting wave length are increased when the surface diffusion is considered. The In content is also increased according to the increasing mask width. The effect of mask width to the In content and wave length is increasing in the case of a small open region.

  • During the last decade, the security of digital images has received considerable attention in various multimedia transmission schemes. However, many current cryptosystems tend to adopt a single-layer permutation or diffusion algorithm, resulting in inadequate security. A hierarchical bilateral diffusion architecture for color image encryption is proposed in response to this issue, based on a hyperchaotic system and DNA sequence operation. Primarily, two hyperchaotic systems are adopted and combined with cipher matrixes generation algorithm to overcome exhaustive attacks. Further, the proposed architecture involves designing pixelpermutation, pixel-diffusion, and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) based block-diffusion algorithm, considering system security and transmission efficiency. The pixel-permutation aims to reduce the correlation of adjacent pixels and provide excellent initial conditions for subsequent diffusion procedures, while the diffusion architecture confuses the image matrix in a bilateral direction with ultra-low power consumption. The proposed system achieves preferable number of pixel change rate (NPCR) and unified average changing intensity (UACI) of 99.61% and 33.46%, and a lower encryption time of 3.30 seconds, which performs better than some current image encryption algorithms. The simulated results and security analysis demonstrate that the proposed mechanism can resist various potential attacks with comparatively low computational time consumption.

  • The surface diffusion coefficients for nickel, nickel oxide, cuppric oxide, cobalt oxide, alumina and ferric oxide have been determined at various temperatures using the sintering technique. This investigation is based on the model accounting for the sum of the contribution of volume and surface diffusion to the overall shrinkage rate during the initial stage of sintering. Simultaneous measurements of shrinkages and shrinkage rates of the materials compacts were conducted for various annealing times, the results of which were then correlated to the diffusion coefficient.

  • The main purpose of this study is to analyse the digital divide and th determinants of ICT diffusion rate in Korean industries. We estimate the ICT diffusion function using the pooling data for this analysis. The results are as follows. First, the ICT capital accumulated in machinery & equipment, electrical machinery and construction industry is estimated to be 83% of total In capital stock in the 90s. Second, using the panel analysis, we find positive correlation among ICT diffusion, network effect and accumulation of human capital, which is more prominent in the service sector. Third, the estimation results show that the additional 1% increase of human capital accumulation will allow to increase the 0.69% of ICT capital intensity in Korean industries.
