In this paper, we introduce a real-time method to render a 3D scene using image-based lighting. Previous approaches for image-based lighting focused on diffuse reflection and mirror-like specular reflection. In this paper, we provide a simple preprocessing approach to efficiently approximate Phong reflection model, which has been used for computer graphics applications for several decades. For diffuse reflection, we generate a texture map for diffuse reflection by integrating the source image in preprocessing step, similarly to the previous approaches. We adopt the similar idea to produce a set of specular reflection maps for various material shininess. By doing this, we can render a dynamic scene without high computational complexity or numerous texture map access.
The present work is focused on the preconcentration of nickel and its determination by means of diffuse reflection spectroscopy. The preconcentration of nickel was carried out by sorption on macroporous aminocarboxylic amphoteric resin ANKB-35. Based on this collector, a method to determine nickel in wastes of heat power industry was worked out using solid-phase spectroscopy. The colored surface compound to be determined was obtained by a preceding nickel sorption on the resin and by subsequent treatment of the concentrate obtained with definite amounts of 1-(2-pyridilazo)-2-naphtol (PAN). The Ni calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 0.5-20.0 mg/L (sample volume is 200.0 mL) and the detection limit is 0.05 mg/L. The presence of $Cu^{2+},\;Fe^{3+},\;Co^{2+}$ ions as well as macrocomponents of natural water $(Na^+,\;K^+,\;Ca^{2+},\;Mg^{2+})$ do not hinder the solid-phase spectroscopy determination of nickel. The nickel determination by diffuse reflection spectroscopy was carried out in model solutions as well as in solutions obtained after the dissolution of wastes of heat power industry.
The existing technological schemes for processing rhenium-containing raw materials involve the recovery of Re from solutions, which can be effectively achieved by anion exchange method. The application of anion exchange also allows to study rhenium state in aqueous solutions and to develop analytical control methods. The present work is focused on investigation of ion exchange equilibrium in the analytical system Re(VII)-HCl-$SnCl_2$-KSCN-anion exchanger by means of sorption-desorption method as well as by electron, IR- and diffuse reflection spectroscopy. It was shown that rhenium can be quantitatively recovered from this system. It is proposed to use the sorption-spectroscopic method for Re(VII) determination in aqueous solutions. The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 0.5-20.0 mg/L (sample volume is 25.0 mL) and the detection limit is 0.05 mg/L. The presence of Mo(VI), Cu(II), Fe(II, III), Ni(II), Zn(II) as well as $K^+,\;Na^+$ do not hinder the solid-phase determination of rhenium. Rhenium (VII) determination by diffuse reflection spectroscopy was carried out in model solutions as well as in samples of river-derived water and in solutions obtained after the dissolution of spent catalysts.
Numerous investigations have demonstrated that diffused reflection is one of the most important factors in predicting room acoustics by computer simulation. Recent studies have suggested several computational algorithms in order to account for diffused reflections in the ray tracing or beam tracing method. In this study, a computational algorithm for the calculation of diffuse sound reflections in the image method is suggested and a computer simulation system is developed based on the suggested algorithm. The methodology adopted in our computer simulation system is similar to the extended radiosity method, which is developed for the computer graphics. In a real room, sound energy is reflected in a partially diffused manner which results in four reflection combinations: diffuse-diffuse, specular-specular, diffuse-specular and specular-diffuse. In this study, higher order form factor is introduced to handle the four types of reflection combinations so that the partially diffused reflection could be modeled. In this paper, the concept of extended radiosity method is described and the approximate method of calculating higher order form factor is suggested. Finally, the effect of higher order form factors on the simulation of reverberation time is investigated.

From the Beckmann's reflection model of wave incident, reflected light from a surface is known to have not only specular but also diffuse components. The specular component dominant a surface for a mirror-like surface is distributed on the almost the same area as the spot on the surface, but the diffuse component region dominant f3r a rough surface spreads scattered on the larger areas than the spot. Therefore, statistic parameters from the scattered light distribution are more meaningful in the diffuse region, while the magnitude of rather meaning in the specular region. In usual, there need two sensors to acquire two kinds of information: Photo-detector for light intensity magnitude and image sensor for light intensity distribution. But dual sensor scheme requires a beam splitter usually to feed light to each sensor, and moreover there is not a combination rule to relieve the different sensor characteristics. In this study a new method is proposed for acquisition of the dual information using only an image sensor. Specular region is established on an image area being distinguished from a diffuse component, and laser power is adjusted so that no pixel of the image sensor in the specular region is saturated. Simulation based on the light reflection theory and the experimental results are quite well matched, and thus the proposed method was proved to be very useful for mirror-like surface measurement.
Reflection measurements are critical to the evaluation of display performance under ambient illumination conditions. Various hemispherical reflection methods are evaluated for their suitability and robustness across display technologies. The standard integrating sphere method is compared to a sampling sphere apparatus.

Carbonation is a natural ageing process for cement. This study focuses on how the carbonation rate varies with selected hydration times and atmospheric conditions during the early stages of reacting dried cement paste. Diffuse reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is shown to be a suitable technique to monitor the formation of carbonates in cement. Combined with a previously developed freeze drying technique, carbonation can be studied at specific hydration stages. In ambient air both calcium hydroxide and calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) in cement are carbonated. Increased hydration time enhances the carbon dioxide uptake, which indicates that the calcium in the hydration products reacts more easily than the calcium in the clinker phase. In a humid $CO_2$ atmosphere, the carbonation process is so pronounced that it decomposes C-S-H into calcium carbonate and silica. In a moist $N_2$ atmosphere no carbonation occurs, but the sulfate chemistry of the cement seems to be affected due to the formation of ettringite.

In this paper, we consider the diffuse type of indoor wireless optical communication (WOC) system. To find the channel characteristics of indoor wireless infrared communication system, we investigate the simulation process to get the impulse response of diffuse type and analyze the scenario of the indoor structure which we have built. The simulation results of the impulse response include power ratio and time delay due to bounce times. We get and discuss the receiving power distribution according to six configurations which have different transmitter and receiver positions and reflection coefficients of the indoor structure assumed. The results of this paper are useful to design the indoor wireless optical communication systems.
