  • The properties of the glasses are not dominantly dependent on the chemical composition, temperature, and pressure but also on the thermal history. For example, electrical, thermal, optical, and mechanical properties are all known to be strongly dependent on the thermal history. Fluoride glasses have received a great deal of attention as candidate materials for an infra-red transmitting medium. A series of fluoride glasses and fibers were prepared under a nitrogen atmosphere. Thermal history effects of the fluoride glass fibers associated with the fast cooling rate employed during the fiber drawing process were discussed in terms of the glass temperatures and the fictive temperatures on the basis of the results obtained from the Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) measurements of the fiber and bulk forms of the same chemical composition.

  • The curing of thermoset resin is accompanied with the changes in chemical and physical properties. The cure monitoring techniques can be designed by tracing these property changes. This paper presents the cure monitoring technique with fiber optic sensors to detect the change of refractive index during the polymerization process of engineering epoxy resin. The fiber optic sensor system was developed to measure the reflection coefficient at the interface between the fiber optic and the resin. The correlation between the sensor output and the degree of cure was performed following Lorentz-Lorenz law. The isothermal data from the sensors are compared with the data from differential scanning calorimeter.

  • In order to analyse the properties of the fiber-adhesive that was used as Flocking process we synthesized quaterpolymer with the variation of the types of monomer ratio by emulsion polymerization. We characterized the properties of this adhesive: Differential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC), Thermogravimetry Analysis(TGA), Raman spectroscopy. The polymer was synthesized by changing the using amount of 2-EHAM, and then we investigated the characteristics of glass transition temperature(Tg), melting temperature(Tm), thermal stability and hydroxyl group respectively. The optimum monomer composition was 36.84% EAM, 15.79% MAM, 42.1% 2-EHAM and 5.26% AAc.

  • Five parts of the automotive interior materials were sampled to determine their combustion characteristics. Oxygen Indexer, Smoke chamber, Differential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC) were used as the analysis apparatus. All LOI values of samples appear less than 21. The combustion phenomena of the interior materials primarily depends on properties of each layer material. The amount of generated smoke are reached the maximum value within 30 - 90sec after ignition. The experimental results of combustion characteristics and DSC of H/Line also indicated that the layer of foam was melt first and it caused the propagation of flame through the sample. The combustion characteristics of multi-layer materials primarily depends on thermal characteristics of single layer material.

  • This paper describes the experiments for investigating the effects of thermal stability of several commercial carpet mate materials. The melting point and thermal decomposition temperature was measured by means of a differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) in air condition. The DSC data and burning test results of nylon bulked continuous filament(N-BCF) yarn 100%, nylon(NY), polypropylene(PP), and a new material named polytrimethyleneterephthalate(PTT) were analysed to obtain the effect on their thermal stability. Conclusively, we observed that PTT and PP were approximately $380^{\circ}C$ and $240^{\circ}C$ to start the thermal decomposition, respectively. In other words, PTT is thermally the most stable material for carpet manufacturing.

  • The thermal impact of mica/epoxy paper(130${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) is investigated using XRD, DSC and TGL X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis was performed to know the position and structure of mica crystal in insulation materials. A differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) was used to measure glass transition temperature and excess enthalphy of the composite materials that had been subjected to thermal aging. The glass transition temperature(T$_{g}$) measured by DSC is observed at 95.43$^{\circ}C$ and 113.43$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The T$_{g}$ also increases with increased aging time. Measurements performed by TGA(thermogravimetric analysis) have showed that weight loss profile of sound specimens are lower than those aged.ged.

  • In this work, the electrical and thermal properties of polyimide/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) nanocomposites were investigated. The polyimide/MWNT nanocomposites contained from 0 to 2.0 wt % of MWNT. The electrical properties of the polyimide films were characterized by a specific resistance measurement. The thermal properties were evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). It was found that the thermal properties of the polyimide nanocomposites increased with increasing MWNT content and specific resistance as well. This result indicated that the crosslinking of polyimide/MWNT nanocomposites was enhanced by good distribution of the MWNT in the polyimide resins, resulting in the increase of the electrical and thermal properties of the nanocomposites.

  • Kraft Lignin which is produced abundantly in pulp industry, was chemically degraded into small oligomers and polymerized using horseradish peroxidase. Lignin acidolysis was optimized by controlling reaction time and HCI concentration. Acidolyzed lignin was polymerized and copolymers of acidolyzed lignin and phenol or p-cresol were synthesized. 70% of kraft lignin was degraded after acidolysis. Number average molecular weight of all lignin polymers were from 8,500 to 14,000 and did not show large difference. Differential scanning calorimeter analysis showed that acidolyzed lignin did not show any melting temparature under $300^{\circ}C$, which indicates that newly synthesized lignin polymers can be used in industry under mild condition.

  • This work is related to study the thermal decomposition of 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazacylohexane(RDX) by differential scanning calorimeter and thermo-gravimetry with Kissinger's & Iso-conversional method under nonisothermal conditions, with heating rate from 2 to $8^{\circ}C$/min or given heating rate. We calculated and compared activation energy with these two methods. Iso-conversional method is better than Kissinger's method to study decomposition mechanism. We also investigated activation energy and frequency factor by Kissinger's & Iso-conversional method with the influence of particle size. In case of single crystal, Cl-3(large crystal) has better thermal stability than Cl-5(small crystal). The activation energy increased according to the size of the particle size.
